Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Cool - applied for it too. I read "Running with the Kenyans" recently which was really interesting (DH went to school with the author) and thought provoking. Quite when I will find time to read is another question Grin

Blatherskite · 28/01/2014 18:10

That's where audio books come in handy Eau :)

Lego I'm afraid I'm not going to make it on Saturday after all. A friend has just announced that this Saturday will be his 100th parkrun and asked if we'll all go and run it with him. Can't really say no as he did my 50th with me and well, there'll be another Magic Mile next month whereas he'll only do his 100th once. Hopefully, I'll be up your way again soon.

HalleLouja · 29/01/2014 11:48

Has anyone done a Pretty Muddy run? Am thinking of doing the one in Stockwood. Some friends are doing it and it looks more fun than a standard 5k. It looks like it might be fun....

HalleLouja · 29/01/2014 11:50

I quite liked Running like a girl. She has a nice style plus it has lots of useful info. Didn't inspire me to run a marathon though Grin. Nothing would do that.

cinnamongreyhound · 30/01/2014 21:57

Nearly parkrun day :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/01/2014 22:03

Smile cinnamon. I can't go on Saturday, but have plans for a long-ish run on Saturday afternoon instead.

One of my colleagues I went out for a run at lunchtime today Grin. We were yabbering all the way round, so not fast, but it was great to get out for half an hour. We ran past another colleague who was out for a walk and she said afterwards that we looked as though we were going fast Grin Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 30/01/2014 22:09

Glad you finally got your lunchtime run :)
I was thinking of doing 6 miles before parkrun but may now have a running buddy for Sunday and I don't know what to do.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/01/2014 22:23

You could use parkrun for speed, and Sunday for distance?

cinnamongreyhound · 30/01/2014 22:27

Sundays a bit rammed anyway so would suit me better to run Saturday BUT it'd be nicer to have company Grin

thefemaleJoshLyman · 30/01/2014 22:55

Missed my morning run this morning due to a cold Sad Actually feel much better and hope Saturday will be fine. We have pacers on Saturday, one doing 25mins, might just try...

EauRouge · 31/01/2014 16:55

Tomorrow's parkrun in Huntingdon has been cancelled, the normal course is underwater and the alternative course is getting so muddy that everyone keeps falling over (damn slippery clay soil).

muddyprints · 31/01/2014 17:18

Would I be silly to try and run parkrun with possible trapped nerve in neck causing aching shoulder arm and hand?
Waiting X-rays and doctor said do gentle exercise and stop if it hurts.
I missed last week because my neck was painful. Week before I had a rubbish week and stopped twice and have been getting slower and slower lately so I'm worried if I don't go I will lose all fitness I'd gained and be less likely to get back into it.

cinnamongreyhound · 31/01/2014 18:40

Is there anywhere else not too far EauRouge? We are lucky we have very sandy soil but it's still pretty muddy here :(

I'd probably give it a go and be prepared to take it slowly muddyprints, you can always walk if you find it too painful. Better to keep moving I would have though.

EauRouge · 31/01/2014 18:50

There's two near Cambridge and one in Peterborough but I've got a long run planned for Sunday anyway so I'll just give parkrunning a miss this weekend.

Blatherskite · 31/01/2014 21:50

I don't think anyone is going to be sure that MK is on tomorrow until we get to the lake in the morning. At the moment it's looking promising but it's due to rain some more overnight.

I hope it's on as it'll only be the second time I've run my home course this year and the first time I'll have done the proper route. It feels like forever since I ran at 'home'

Standingonlego · 31/01/2014 22:16

Fingers crossed for the weather blathers. It is not looking very appealing weather here but we have a 27 minute pacer in the morning so perfect for me to try and get that elusive PB. So better put the Wine down and go to bed!

Have a great run (or paddle) everyone

thenightsky · 31/01/2014 23:26

Scunthorpe looks like being dry and bright tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm still injured. DS is going though. I'm a wee bit tempted to turn up and run one lap (1.5 miles)

karatekimmi · 01/02/2014 08:41

My parkrun is cancelled because of the frost Sad I'm a bit gutted as I was going to be child free! oh well off to do my own 5k now

CoffeeBucks · 01/02/2014 10:25

First time I've been able to get to parkrun today, and really enjoyed it. 33 minutes, which is a bit slower than usual but I normally run in the evenings so need to get used to the earlier starts.

It is so much more motivating than running alone. Hopefully I can make this a regular thing Smile

Standingonlego · 01/02/2014 10:31

Hello folks - sorry to hear about the cancelled run karate, hope you enjoyed your very own personal 5k.

nightsky and muddyprints what did you do in the end? Hope you did not overdo it ladies...

Josh did you run this morning with the pacer? How did it go?

As for the rest of you hope you enjoyed the family/rest time OhOne Eau and everyone else Cinnamon, Melliebobs BlathersHalleRunningLouMelanieCheeks and everyone else I have missed had a fabulous run.

It was bright and sunny here in Northampton, and I am super duper happy as I definately got a PB, waiting on time, but the 27 minute pacer was amazing and dragged us all round in clear sub-27 times Grin. I did think I was going to die though....but managed to hang on and collapsed in a big panting heap once i got my token Blush.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/02/2014 13:15

Well done lego, that sounds fantastic!

cinnamongreyhound · 01/02/2014 14:06

Well done standingonlego!!! And coffeeBucks!

That's rubbish karatekimmi! Hope your enjoyed your 5k anyway. We had a parkrun in the snow last year do frost is a bit silly to cancel for, although I guess if it's paths it's a bit more dangerous.

Did you give it a try thenightsky?

I went for today for my long run today and it was lovely sun shining, peaceful at 7.30 with the dogs and managed 6.5 miles then did parkrun and got a time of 27m55 which I was very pleased with. I then ran home so total of 10 miles in 1hr 35 so not bad but not great. Does include stopping to put dogs on and off leads and other dog related pauses!

melliebobs · 01/02/2014 14:21

hope everyone had good runs this morning. was freeeeeeezing in Preston and patches of ice too. got a PB which um chuffed as nuts about cos I've got a niggling cold. Was 31:16 now down to 30:42 sub 30 is seeming a bit more realistic.

dh got me a garmin for getting under 65mins in that 10k last week and my god soooooo useful to have. definitely made me go a bit faster towards the end Grin

Knackerelli · 01/02/2014 16:34

It was our parkrun's first birthday today! There was fun size chocolate bars at the finish line ( if I'd known that before I would have run faster!) and a massive birthday cake. Work is currently insane so haven't been able to do any running in the week Sad Was lovely to get out, stretch my legs and catch up with friends. My time was rubbish though!!'

CoffeeBucks · 01/02/2014 17:27

mellie I treated myself to a Garmin at Xmas and I love it - used to use MapMyRun and the watch is so much easier. I do a lot of running through city streets with traffic lights etc so the auto-pause function is good & lets you see actual running time vs how long it took.

Thank you cinnamon. I am not very good at running & was just pleased not to be last - there are a lot of very fit & fast people at my parkrun & there's no point in trying to compare myself to them, but I am pleased. Aiming to run a sub 30 mins soon...
