Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Hello everyone. May I join your thread please? I'm a regular parkrunner (up here in the North East). My DS and I have done 45 runs each and are planning on doing our 50th the day after his 11th birthday. We aren't amazing runners, just love it and love a parkrun!

BellsaRinging · 01/02/2014 17:59

hi everyone. loved parkrun today-it was our 4th birthday and lots of people ran in pjs. great atmosphere and lovely cake!. boggy course though and they added a water feature...guess it's good training for the wolf run. how did you all go?

thenightsky · 01/02/2014 18:33

I've never heard of them being cancelled due to frost karate. Ours seem to go ahead even when there is black ice on the tarmac sections. They just tell us at the start to try and stay on the grass. I doubt we'd get cancelled if there was a foot of snow, knowing the hardcore Scunthorpe lot Grin

I did not run today as I tested my IT band yesterday with a little jog and i could feel the pain intensifying as I speed up beyond a little jog. I did 15 mins and called it a day. DS did quite well, but got a terrible stitch approx 5 mins before the end and stopped. He came in about 24 I think he said, so hardly rubbish!

Knackerelli · 01/02/2014 18:57

I would kill for a time of 24!!

thenightsky · 01/02/2014 20:32

I know knack so would I. His PB is just under 22 Envy

thefemaleJoshLyman · 01/02/2014 21:52

Hi all, some great runs, well done! Another pb for me today Grin 25.42, really chuffed. Mind you my parkrun is the flattest ever so would be much slower on a hillier course.

muddyprints · 01/02/2014 22:39

I decided not to go to parkrun because if I had to stop due to pain I would have been embarrassed walking off, so I went for a run from home on my own. My shoulder and arm ached but not really painful. Measured it after and I did 4k in 28 mins so quite slow but kept going so quite pleased.
Will try parkrun next week, it was nice to run a new route I find I get a bit bored running the same laps.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/02/2014 09:12

cinnamon we won't see you for dust at the boundary run Grin. I am resigned to being last due to my complete lack of training, other than dry January Grin. At least I know I can go the distance.

I am up, it's not raining, and once my garmin is charged I am going out for a looooong run. I have an out and back route that is 8 miles, to which I can add either a lap of a lake or another loop in the other direction if I'm still feeling OK on the way home, which will take it up to 9 or 10. My achilles/ankle/lower leg is still sore, but no worse than usual.

Great to see lots of PBs yesterday, and that even the injured ones among us have managed to do a little bit this week. Enjoy your Sundays Grin

Blatherskite · 02/02/2014 11:35

I did OK yesterday. MK was crazily busy (420+ runners!) and with the bottleneck at the start, I ended up walking for the first 100 meters-ish as it was impossible to run until the path widened so I knew it was never going to be a 'good' time. I still finished in under 29 minutes so not awful but I think it would have been more like 27 had I been able to run the lot.

The best bit though...there was cake because a friend ran his 100th parkrun Wink and more importantly, after the run I got chatting to our Event Director. He asked me how my run had been and I said OK but that my calf was feeling a bit heavy and achey still and I was a bit worried about my upcoming half marathon because it was hampering my training. I was saying that I thought the ache was the scar tissue from the tear but he said that it was more likely to be the muscle not working properlysince the injury and that what I really needed to do was see a muscle injury recovery specialist - and he's the only one in the area - and the best best bit....He's fitting me in tomorrow and not even charging me!!

I'm so hoping that he can fix this lead-like feeling that's making running feel like such hard work and the knot I get if I try to run longer distances. I really need to be able to start adding extra miles to my training runs and it would really help my 5k improvers course and in fact, running in general if it felt more comfortable. I'm feeling very lucky today to have some fab friends Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 02/02/2014 12:34

I don't know about that OhoneOhTwoOhThree! Starting to get nervous now and wondering why I entered!! Hope your run goes well today :)

Anyone heard anything from IsThatTrue?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/02/2014 13:34

Blathers that sounds brilliant! I hope that he is able to help tomorrow Smile

I managed 11 miles in 2 hours which I'm thrilled with, especially as I (literally) got bogged down in some woods in the middle and had to walk through waist high reeds trying to find a way around a swampy bit which added 5 minutes to the split for that mile Grin.

I was talking to a lady at my tutorial yesterday - I've only met her twice before. We were talking about my dry/caffeine free/no chocolate January and she said that I must be very disciplined, what with all my running (she knew about my marathon). Out running today I realised that actually it's probably the very opposite. The little addict voice in my head was wittering away "go on, one more mile won't do any harm, just because you said you would turn round here you don't have to, wouldn't it be nice to get to the , you haven't been there for a while so you may as well make the most of being out" Grin.

I was really hurting when I stopped, but remembered the youtube stretches Blathers posted and did those before diving into my lunch Grin

Standingonlego · 02/02/2014 21:02

OhOne that sounds like a proper adventure, envious Grin.

Hope your man has magic hands and work miracles on your calf blathers

cinnamongreyhound · 02/02/2014 21:24

Don't know how I missed your post blatherskite, that sounds very promising hope it goes well :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/02/2014 21:37

Wasn't it part 2 of your mud run today lego?

Standingonlego · 02/02/2014 22:34

It was but I had to miss it for the pleasure of standing on the side of a freezing cold rugby pitch cheered the mini Lego boys on :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/02/2014 22:44

Oh bless their little rugby boots Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/02/2014 17:45

cinnamon I have been in touch with IsThat. She is OK but very busy in RL

cinnamongreyhound · 05/02/2014 12:15

That's good to hear.

karatekimmi · 06/02/2014 06:51

blathers how's the calf? And how is the improves course going

I've been enjoying running with my club so much DH has copied joined in. He's faster but can't run continuously yet, so we've been joining one of the c25k walk/run groups and I've been trying to treat it as speed work. Last night though he didn't go and it was nice to do a long run. Fingers crossed parkrun is on this week.

cinnamongreyhound · 06/02/2014 18:27

We have started discussing our birthday run on 15th March :)

cinnamongreyhound · 06/02/2014 20:16

Whoops 8th march.

karatekimmi · 07/02/2014 07:04

It's Telford's 1st birthday next Saturday not this Saturday and the fancy dress theme is valentines day. I have zero creativity so would welcome any ideas about what I could wear. I'll have a pushchair and a toddler if that helps!!

pennygallops · 07/02/2014 20:16

Yeah, parkrun eve!

EauRouge · 07/02/2014 20:26

Ours is cancelled again tomorrow :( Mind you, I've got band rehearsal anyway so it'd be cutting it a bit fine, especially with all that mud to wash off.

Blatherskite · 07/02/2014 21:16

Ours is hanging in the balance at the moment. It's looking runable for now but it's due to rain all night so it might be a different story in the morning.

Calf is good. Whatever my friend did, he's stopped my calf hurting but my knees feel like they're about to pop at all times now Confused Hoping some more runs might help. Very tempted to pay £50 for another session to see if it'll fix my knees but money is a bit tight round here at the moment.

5k Improvers course is going well. Last week we did 8 x 400m sprints working from our 1 mile times from the first week so I needed to do mine in a consistent 1:54 pace which was slightly faster than my overall 1 mile pace. We got 2 minutes to rest in between. Would have been great had the wind not been blowing so hard. With the wind, I was going way too fast and into the wind, I was fighting to keep up. Totally failed to do my homework last week too. We're aiming for 3 runs a week and lengthening the longest run by 10% and doing squats, planks, calf raises etc too to strengthen our legs.
