Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

And I've completely contradicted myself haven't I? I'd love to...never again Grin

Yes you have to either volunteer or take part for all of the 8 weeks to be eligible.

I wouldn't dream of it!! Several people at my club were trying to persuade me to enter before the ballot closed but no way! It's so much training and such a long time running, I don't want to fall out of love with running because I HAVE to train, a 4 hour run every Sunday for a while is not my idea of a life I'm afraid. I have two ds's and work a 50 hour week and volunteer on youngest's playgroup committee and an a school governor so no Grin

Good call cinnamon - sounds as though you have plenty going on in your life already Grin.

I am looking forward to getting my Sundays back, which also means getting my Saturday nights back too - not that I was a huge boozer before, but I've cut back to one or two glasses of wine at most recently.

Hi

parkrunner here as well... have run 17 times and volunteered well over 30 times.

was Run Director for a while but having a small toddler takes its toll and stopped that, but still go round for timing and scanning when I can

My parkrun PB is 33:02 but usually more around the 34/35 minute mark...

Welcome to all newbies. Sorry I've been too rubbish in the last few days to keep up and welcome you individually. It's half term so I now have 3 children to entertain and the smallest refuses to nap when the bigs are home, which is pretty hellish tbh.

As for marathon talk. It's really not for me. I love running because I want to, not because I have to. I did the moonwalk (you walk 26.2 miles overnight) last march (at 6wks pregnant) and the training just took so long, I honestly couldn't face it. I am in awe of 20 mile runs though.

For all newbies I started the previous thread at the beginning of my parkrun journey. With a time of 33.20 (ish). I'm now 14 weeks down the line, 12 parkruns to my name with a pb of 27.15 (27.33 at the hillier course near me).

And for all the oldies, it's nice to see you all. I look forward to my children going back to school catching up properly next week :)

Hello IsThat. Have a lovely half term! Ours was last week.

Yes OhOne, my 50th should be the week after next. This Saturday I'm doing a bit of parkrun tourism but I should be back home for the all important one. I am planning my cakes already :)

Report
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/10/2013 19:30

Ooh cake, I'll definitely be there!

Where you off to this week ? You'd better not be coming to mine, because I won't be there to welcome you!

Well I got a PB of 34.07 on Saturday. I seem to have hurt my knee though. I tried a little jog today and the pain is still there... sort of in the stringy tendony bits up the back of my knee. I think I'll volunteer this week and lay off running till I'm properly mended.

Well done the rest of the mumsnet park runners!

Can I ask, are all the Parkruns so full of 'proper' runners as mine is? There and guys zooming round in 18/19/20 minutes. I was pretty about two thirds of the way down the pack of 75 runners with my time of 28:39.

Report
TinyTear · 29/10/2013 19:54

Mine (Hampstead Heath) has people who do it in 18 minutes - I think course record is 17 something - but plenty of slower ones at 40 minutes and more

Lots of people run with their kids... I see 6 or 7 year olds with better times than me!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/10/2013 20:23

Mine has a good mixture of super-fast club runners and slower joggers. We do two and a half laps, and I usually get lapped by the winning few. I have rarely been placed below 100 (except when it's been bad weather - I live close enough to be able to turn out whatever the weather, but a lot of people I've spoken to live up to half an hour's drive away).

I'm going up North OhOne, you're safe Wink

The course record for our parkrun is 15:01! Which to say it's not a PB course is amazingly fast. The guys at the front either run it and then help out with barcode scanning or run it twice while everyone else is finishing. We also have our fair share of runners who take anywhere up to an hour to do it though so I think it's fairly evenly balanced.

I'm not feeling very well this week so I'm really hoping that I don't get too ill to run. I can cope with missing out on my sub-26 goal but I really want this quest for the 50 shirt to be done now

Hello everyone! My parkrun has fast club runners (17 mins +) to fun runners at 40 + mins. I really like though how all are welcome and get shouts of encouragement as you go round. I'm doing my first bit of parkrun tourism this Saturday; an event has cancelled my home one so doing one close to my parents. 10 down, 40 to go.....!

Report
cinnamongreyhound · 29/10/2013 21:25

Yep was have a mixture too, 16min right down to 40min and we only have 30-40 runners most weeks.

Report
IsThatTrue · 29/10/2013 22:12

Of the 2 I run we have approx 3-400 on the flat and 150 on the hilly. At the flat I'm normally around 1/2 way down and the hilly I'm 2/3 of the way down.

I've never come under place 100 though.

Our course record is 15.09 Shock. But it is very flat and people come from running clubs all over the country to get PBs.

Report
MelanieCheeks · 30/10/2013 07:52

Mixture of fast and slow at mine too, average attendance 100. Ours is 3 laps, and I can usually tell how fast I'm going by the point at which the fastest runner is overtaking me.

I'm doing my 3rd park run on Saturday. It's quite hilly and there are around 200 people each week.

Ive only been running since June. Did c25k. I'm completely hooked now and am attempting a 10k fun run in 4 weeks time. Eeeek

My times have been 38min and 36 min. There are so many club runners and people wearing 250 tshirts. I'm in the last 3.

I nearly threw up after the last one. I tried soooo hard but others are so friendly and encouraging at park runs you always feel welcome Smile

BlathAarghZombieBite · 30/10/2013 08:14

I'm even more impressed with our course record holder now! Our course is not a PB one as it has a very long slow hill for about the first 1k and a huge great hill just past 2k! If he can do 15:01 on that goodness knows how fast he'd go on a flat course!!

Our course gets about 450 runners every week. I had to go to another course to get a placing under 100. At the trial parkrun I came in 7th out of 15 which will never be beaten Wink

I have signed up to volunteer in a couple of weeks - I'm away this week and possibly doing some tourism the one after Wink.

Ah. Just realised that #chasetheplace means you have to be there for the next 8 weeks, so that's a no-can-do for me.

This weekend I'm dancing in Perth, and next weekend DH and I are celebrating our anniversary in the wilds of Donegal.

On 16th my local C25K group, who I've piggy-backed training sessions with, are getting ready for their First Ever ParkRun, which will be an emotional and fun session, and on 23rd I've volunteered to marshall.

DH has informed me I may not be park running this weekend. Well he can jolly well have DS while I do a 10k Sunday morning then. I shouldn't be too grumpy he's off to India for nearly 3 weeks next tues and I'll miss him
