Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Feeling better today. Not totally but I can at least stand up straight again. Entered another half marathon yesterday so I'm sitting on my hands trying not to enter another today as it's becoming a bit of a theme!

runningLou · 21/01/2014 14:41

Any suggestions for a Midlands parkrun that's run all on paths?? My last parkrun was 3 weeks ago :( in Coventry - twisted my knee going over the finish line as the ground was so slippy and muddy. My knee is now on the mend, slowly (have had physio) but am now scared to run on slippy terrain - I know this sounds stupid!! Used to go out 4+ times a week so am really missing it and want to get back into it ...

Standingonlego · 21/01/2014 16:31

All tarmac path apart from the final 10 yards to the finish line here in Northampton.

Blatherskite · 21/01/2014 18:08

Just in case no-one is close....There should be a vague description of the course on each course page. It should say there whether it's mostly/all paths or trail. You could have a look at the map and check out the ones closest to you that way?

I've done Doncaster and Northampton but nowhere in between I'm afraid.

Al63 · 21/01/2014 22:28

Brueton Park in Solihull is run entirely on tarmac I think.

karatekimmi · 22/01/2014 06:54

Forest rec in Nottingham is mainly all paths (as far as I can remember) however as it was really frosty when I did it, they advised us to run on the grass as it was less slippy!

Knackerelli · 22/01/2014 18:40

Wolverhampton's park run in west park is all paths if that's any good to you? So is walsall's I think and maybe telfords? There is also a park run in canon hill park but don't know what that's like.

Blatherskite · 22/01/2014 22:47

I did the first night of my 5k Improvers course tonight. I had to dose myself up on painkillers to get rid of my headache and really use some serious will power but I went and it was great.

Tonight we did a long-ish (1.5 mile) warm up and then went all out for a timed mile to see what we could do. I did mine in 7:42 which is only 4 seconds off my PB and from a time when I was lighter, fitter and faster in general. Taking into account that I'm a stone heavier and have only been able to stand upright properly again since yesterday morning, I'm really, really pleased with that!

We're getting emailed homework apparently so I'll let you know what that is when it comes through.

karatekimmi · 23/01/2014 07:21

That sounds good, I might suggest it to my running club after they finish the c25k plan that a improves course might be a goo idea. I did 10k with them last night and it felt really good, all I wanted to do was sit on the sofa and eat chocolate, but afterwards I felt so much better!

Blatherskite · 23/01/2014 10:24

Homework for this week is just to do 3 runs at any pace but of at least 2 miles. Should be easy enough.

We got an email from the club last night inviting us to bring our children along for a 2k run over the half term holidays too. Under 5's are allowed to bring bikes and run/walking is OK. DS is really excited :)

cinnamongreyhound · 23/01/2014 17:54

Sounds good blatherskite! The course and the 2k run :)

I had a horrible bug Tuesday evening and yesterday, nausea, stomach cramps, hot and cold, headache, generally feeling awful and no appetite. So I cancelled my run this morning with my friend, feel much better than yesterday so now I'm deciding whether to go out tonight or early tomorrow.

MelanieCheeks · 24/01/2014 11:34

I've been very lazy this week - did the hill-training on Monday as planned, but was away with work on Wednesday's session. Intended to go for a run yesterday instead, but Candy Crush won out.

Blatherskite · 24/01/2014 17:59

It's Satur parkrunday tomorrow! Grin Who's running?

I'm off for a trip to Bedford. Hope OhOne is around...?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 24/01/2014 18:03

Grin Blathers I'll be there Grin

I am absolutely blooming knackered. New job and daily commuting into London is killing me. I have taken running gear to work with me, but haven't managed a proper lunch hour yet.

Blatherskite · 24/01/2014 18:10

Hooray! I shall see you there Grin

I ache everywhere today. Probably the result of going from 3 days laid on the sofa feeling awful to 3 days of running. Just got parkrun to do tomorrow and the long run on Sunday and I can rest on Monday Wink

Also been looking at my planned races for the year. Currently, I have entered or am planning to enter at least 1 10k or half marathon every month this year apart from January, August and October! and if I can find something I fancy, I have every intention of booking races for then too. I'm a little nervous but keep reminding myself that I run 10k pretty much every week at least once so throwing in 4 half marathons is hardly going to register - right?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 24/01/2014 18:48

You'll be fine blathers! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow Smile

My achilles is getting worse and worse. I hurt it marathon training, but gritted my teeth and carried on. I hoped that resting it would do the trick, but it is getting more painful, not less.

Blatherskite · 24/01/2014 18:58

You obviously need to run more then Wink

Right, I ahve double checked Dh's diary so I'm off to enter the closest two of my 'maybe' races. Both 10ks so my only worry is getting there

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2014 20:34

I can't post on this thread :(

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2014 20:34

Ooooo that one worked, weird! Let's try my actual post!

Glad to hear you're back running Blatherskite!!

Sorry to hear about your Achilles OhOneOhTwoOhThree :(

I'm not park running tomorrow :( got a course 9.30-4 :( :( I probably won't go out when I get home as I want to see my boys! Got a long run planned on Sunday :)

thefemaleJoshLyman · 25/01/2014 12:01

Can I join you all?

Have just run my 3rd parkrun, have dropped my pb by over 2minutes since my first so feel very happy. Really love it, running with others really gives you a boost.

Hope to run my 1st half marathon in October, very scared about that!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2014 12:40

Welcome Josh!

No PB for me today, but I ran fast enough to feel a bit sick by the end Grin

It was lovely to see Blathers Smile

Just realised I won't be parkrunning anywhere next week as I have a tutorial - boo!

Blatherskite · 25/01/2014 16:56

I took it fairly easy but everything aches this afternoon. Tomorrow's long run has a complicated drop off if you only want to do an hour which I'm considering using as my excuse to miss it and have a lie in instead.

My calf is still feeling bruised which is new too - and probably not a good sign.

Might take DS for a practice run instead

melliebobs · 25/01/2014 22:15

no running for me today. got a 10k event tommorow so I volunteered at my parkrun today Smile I did the finishing tokens. hard work cos it was so cold I couldn't feel my fingers Grin didn't drip any though. winner

runningLou · 26/01/2014 05:52

Really happy to be back at parkrun yesterday after 3 weeks off with knee injury after slipping in the mud crossing the finish line. Pretty rubbish time compared to my best but just good to be back! It's Coventry's 4th birthday next week so am planning cake. We have to run in our PJs - bit apprehensive as course is so muddy! Don't want mud-soaked PJ trousers flapping round me the whole time!!
Have signed up for a 10k in April and also my first ever sprint triathlon in May. The latter totally terrifies me!!! Needed something to get me training properly though.
Oooh, and I collected my 50 t-shirt - very proud to cycle back home wearing it, too!
Well done to all who ran yesterday!

MelanieCheeks · 26/01/2014 08:52

Yay, well done on your 50 Tshirt!

I did my 34th run yesterday - weather conditions very cold, blustery, wet. I dont run well in those circumsatnces, so a time of 28.32 I was happy with.
