Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Blathers that sounds worrying :( Hope you feel better soon.

How frustrating nightsky, the resting will hopefully do the job.

Good to hear it went well Cinnamon :)

466 at Black Park today. No film crews but some idiots still managed a little car park rage. Were you there today Iggity?

I was a whole 14 seconds faster than last week Grin baby steps eh! Very pleased though as I ran far more - only 3 v short walk breaks. Given I only started running again on Jan 1st the time's really don't matter atm, aiming to just get round without stopping as a first target.

EauRouge · 18/01/2014 13:36

Oh no, I hope you are both OK Blathers and thenightsky. Blathers, is there a walk-in clinic you can get to?

OhOne, I would have dragged myself out of bed if I knew you were coming! Did you do the double with Pboro parkrun?

We had tons of newbies today, it seemed like a third of the field. I wonder if they were put off or if they'll be back Grin It was seriously tough going, the mud was so deep. There are photos on the Facebook page and I'm not the only one that fell over!

thenightsky · 18/01/2014 13:49

blathers Do you think you could have strained your lower abdominal muscles? You maybe wouldn't notice at the time of running, but after sitting down for a bit they would go into spasm.

I've done that back in my 'big' running days when I did x-country. It felt like I'd been disemboweled from the inside out.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/01/2014 13:51

I didn't realise you were a Huntingdon parkrunner Eau! I really liked it and will deffo come again in the summer. I didn't do the double Grin.

We had lots of newbies too - everyone must have made the same new years resolutions Grin

karatekimmi · 18/01/2014 14:38

I think I will go to the doctors. I know my Pelvic floor has been weakened, but normally I don't push myself too hard, and these incidents always seem to happen if I try to run faster than my normal slow pace

Blathers hope you are okay, rest and put your feet up, but get it checked out if it gets any worse.

Blatherskite · 18/01/2014 16:52

I think muscle spasms could definitely be what it is. After I posted, I went to bed and managed to sleep for a little bit which has taken the edge off the pain. I still can't even sit too comfortably but it's definitely a little better.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/01/2014 17:05

kimmi - just came across this thread and wondered if you'd seen it.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/01/2014 19:58

Well done MrsMot, a pb is a pb :)

I get quite bad ovulation pain that is worse than period pain Blatherskite but if you've never had it before then it's probably not that. Not experience of straining abs but could it be the beginnings of a tummy bug? Glad you're feeling a bit better though.

I somehow missed your last post muddyprints! I would guess that your time is getting a bit slower because you're running less. I would suggest trying to get out at least once more a week and if speed bothers you to try an app that will give you intervals to do to increase speed or look up a training program. It took me at least 3 months of running post c25k to really enjoy it not sure what changed. Give it more time and see how you feel. I NEVER enjoy a 5k!!! I run it and want to improve and feel great afterwards but i was once told a 5k should hurt and I don't like hurting! 10k is more my distance so perhaps there's a longer distance runner inside you :)

muddyprints · 18/01/2014 20:42

Had a terrible run. Started well, first mile in 9.50, second mile 10 mins, then just felt really slow and heavy and walked twice. I've never walked before. Time was 32.19 so wasn't my worst but I think I've just lost interest.
Did couch to 5k with a friend in summer and we ran together couple of times a week. Now she doesn't run and I can't run on my own in the dark at 8 it's too lonely and it's boring on my own.
Parkrun is 3 times round a mile route and when I pass the finish line twice knowing still another mile to go I just want to stop.
Might just stop parkrun and do intervals or redo couch to 5k but try to get faster.

Blatherskite · 18/01/2014 21:01

It's better as long as I'm laid down (although I get waves of pain that make me wimper) but I just tried getting up to go to the loo and nearly passed out!

milewalker · 18/01/2014 21:21

muddyprints our parkrun is like yours, run in loops/laps so you pass the finish line twice before your done. I hate the last loop/lap when you pass all those faster runners that have already finished and there's still a mile to go. I always feel like stopping then and I struggle round it every week yet I do half marathons, 10 milers and a full marathon no problem.
after all my moaning about it on the way home i'll still be putting my running shoes on next Saturday and dragging myself around the 5k.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/01/2014 21:55

Go and see someone Blatherskite!! If not a&e then emergency doc.

Standingonlego · 18/01/2014 22:01

Blathers please do get seen, that is not right at all :( :(

Do not leave it until the morning, call the emergency docs...it could be all sorts of things, especially as it has been properly painful for over 12 hours now which is too long to just hope it settles.

Pick up phone now! [bossy icon]

Blatherskite · 19/01/2014 11:22

I did ring 111 last night but after 2 hours of waiting for them to ring me back with an appointment I'd managed to drug myself up enough and stay immobile enough to be comfortable enough to fall asleep. I was so much better this morning but still in pain so I rang 111 again and actually got a call back this time! They wanted me in so referred me to the local emergency doctor who told me that they don't do appointments and I should just go down Angry

Thankfully, I was seen quite quickly once I got there. It seems I have the mother of all UTIs so they've given me antibiotics and told me to go back if it gets any worse. Looks like I may be failing janathon Sad

I haven't been in that much pain since I was in labour with DS so I'm so relieved that it's better today. I still can't stand straight but at least I don't black out whenever I try to stand up! Hoping the antibiotics kick in quickly

thenightsky · 19/01/2014 11:25

Bloody hell blathers that sounds awful. How strange you never felt the normal burning on peeing etc. Sneaky bacteria you got there!

I was beginning to wonder if you'd twisted your gut or got a hernia or something! At least it turned out to be something easily sorted. x

Blatherskite · 19/01/2014 11:43

I thought that was odd too. I hardly peed at all yesterday and you'd think I'd be going constantly and it burning. Apparently TMI warning there is both blood and white cells in the sample I gave them so it's a bad infection. I've been drinking more today but it's still not burning or coming more frequently.

It seems odd too that it came on so fast and sleep helped so much and also that moving made it so much worse. Surely an infection is an infection whether you're laid still or moving around Confused

Just so relieved that it seems better today

cinnamongreyhound · 19/01/2014 11:48

Glad you went and that it's something they found quickly! Don't worry about janathon, I'm sure blacking out when you stand up is enough of an excuse!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 19/01/2014 18:26

Glad you got seen Blathers and that at least you know what it is now. Get well soon x

Standingonlego · 19/01/2014 18:55

blathers get well soon, that sounds nasty. Take care of yourself Brew and Cake in order

melliebobs · 19/01/2014 20:52

5 seconds off a PB. Bah n I thought i was doing alright as well. It's wound me up a bit cos I'm volunteering next week (got a 10k on Sunday next weekend) so 2 weeks till I get to try again

Blatherskite · 19/01/2014 20:59

I've been making myself feel better by entering another half marathon. I'm now doing the MK half in March. Now just got to get better so that I can train :)

HalleLouja · 21/01/2014 09:04

Can I join?

Have finished C25K and have a 10k planned for June. I would like to do a Park Run but am usually working Sat mornings but will try and fit one in when the weather is nicer. At the moment I just plod along by myself.

HalleLouja · 21/01/2014 09:05

Muddy I run by myself. I quite like it and play music I like. I also often run in the dark but in safe places.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/01/2014 12:10

melliebobs 5secs of pb is doing well!!

How are you feeling blatherskite?

Hi HalleLouja, congratulations on finishing c25k! Do try and get to a parkrun they're great! I can see how if you work most Saturdays you wouldn't want to get up and rush out to run on your Saturday off though! We do chat other running too :)

I didn't get out for my long run Sunday due to family stresses :( totally ran out of time but could have managed an hour just so we decided to go for a family dog walk to try and diffuse everyone's tensions which was lovely! So last night I did 3 miles on my own, picked up dogs to do doggy run with club mates then dropped dogs home for another mile on my own. I'm going to go Sunday with a guy who is training for London marathon and is expecting to do it in less than 3 hours so I'm a little scared!

MelanieCheeks · 21/01/2014 13:52

Oooh, Blathers, hope that clears up soon!

Any seconds off a PB are good, Mellie!

I managed 27 minutes on the nose last week - would have been faster except for an unscheduled poo-stop (the dog, not me.....)

I find that training sessions during the week really help. We tend to do hill work on a Monday night, and Fartlek (stop sniggering at the back) on Wednesdays. And I'll usually have a leisurely 10k on a Sunday.
