Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Welcome MrsMot Come and join in :)

to OhOne Are you going to come and join me next weekend?

I just checked and the record attendance for MK parkrun was 454 runners!! One of them will have been me Grin

Standingonlego · 11/01/2014 17:20

Hello MrsMot - welcome :)

blathers....you say that there will be Cake? I have my trail run thingy the next day but the lure of cake might just swing a visit to MK if i can negotiate it with DH Grin. Will see what i can do :)

Blatherskite · 11/01/2014 17:29

There will definitely be Cake Lego I am making my famous cola cupcakes (which I think OhOne may have tried at my 50th) and am also open to requests. Do you have a favourite? Grin

We have a lovely cafe that opens while we're running which does lovely hot drinks and bacon/sausage sandwiches too for post run warming up...

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/01/2014 17:47

I don't remember coca cola cupcakes, but I did have a very nice raspberry and chocolate cake, and maybe some flapjack Grin

I could probably pop down next Saturday (will try to go the right way on the M1 if I do Grin)

Welcome MrsMot

Blatherskite · 11/01/2014 18:27

That was Raspberry and White chocolate blondie OhOne. I could maybe make some more of that... :) I didn't make flapjack so the other thing must have been Brownie.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/01/2014 18:30

Hi MrsMot! Well done for your parkrun and your ds's first. How old is he? I took my ds1 (6) and he was a pain, we managed 49 mins but we have a 7 year old who does it weekly in 31mins :)

Yours are all very busy, we had 35 today. I'm RD next week and then I have a course which starts very inconveniently at 9.30 :(

MrsMot · 11/01/2014 18:43

Ds is 12, he managed 26mins without much effort. I got round in 34, bit of a run/walk effort which given I only started running again on Jan 1st I was really pleased with.

I manage to farm out the others: dd, ds2 and ds3 do karate with dh at 10am which makes the timings a little tight. Dh is really the runner in the family, he clocks up about 30k a week. Dd (14) liked the idea until I told her it was 5k, she'll have a go one day I'm sure.

There's a cafe at our finish line too, ds was v happy when he realised he could have a sausage roll and Lucozade after as a treat!

Any of you doing Jantastic?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/01/2014 18:44

Yes! It was Brownie! I am chocolate, alcohol and caffeine free this month, so am only thinking about healthy snacks Grin

35 cinnamon . Hope your RD slot goes well (and that you get away on time)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/01/2014 18:47

x-post with MrsMot - those are great times for both of you, especially as you've only just got back to running. Well done!

I keep trying to get my two (16 and 12) along, but they always have a reason not to go. Maybe when the weather improves Smile

I get mixed up between Janathon and Jantastic. Kimmi and Blathers are doing one or the other I think.

MrsMot · 11/01/2014 18:56

We had a glorious run last weekend through mud, ankle-deep water and brambles which ds loved, muddier the better!

I tried to be everything-free this month but failed so am applying the 'everything in moderation' rule instead...

Cinnamon I think we were on the C25K thread at some stage! Well done you for keeping it going!

Blatherskite · 11/01/2014 19:00

Janathon here. I just have to exercise everyday, log in on run keeper and blog about it. The hardest part is attempting to be interesting on the blog to be honest!

Jantastic is a bit more involved and involves setting ever increasing goals I think.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/01/2014 21:50

I didn't write that very well did I!?! I'm RD next week and my course is the following week so no PR running for the next two weeks :(

I'm still on the c25k thread MrsMot Blush

Blatherskite · 11/01/2014 22:01

I'm assistant race director for a marathon on Wednesday again. I'm really looking forward to it. It's only 40-ish runners which seems like a breeze after helping out at our parkrun

melliebobs · 11/01/2014 22:38

Got a PB down to 31:16 my aim is 30 mins but with 3 big hills it's going to be nigh on impossible Grin

MelanieCheeks · 11/01/2014 23:07

Well done mellie, you'll smash that 30 mins this year for sure!

Our turnout is around 100. Which is lovely.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/01/2014 23:30

You'll do it mellie Grin I always seem to plateau for a bit, then speed up again.

karatekimmi · 12/01/2014 06:45

We have pacers next and it have no child to push, so I'm hopeful for a PB!! I'd love a sub 30, but just closer to 30 would be good!! Currently at 31.28, but have had a few easy weeks running with slower friends!

Blatherskite · 12/01/2014 11:16

My 'Improving your 5k' course starts on the 22nd. I shall be back to give out tips Wink

milewalker · 13/01/2014 19:34

hi everyone, jusy wondering is anyone here running the grizzly in march?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 13/01/2014 19:46

My running is not happening ATM Sad

I had a very tight calf after my first run back having missed 12 days ver Christmas and I just can't shake it off. I have run a couple of times, but it's not getting any easier and we're going skiing next week so I don't want to mess it up for that.

I marshalled at our parkrun on 6th jan thinking it would be mega busy. There was 460ish I think. I skipped this week - there were 596 Shock. The organiser is in talks with the council for a 2nd parkrun to be set up in the area - I really think that would be a good plan and hope it gets approval.

I'll be back on it hopefully after our week away - I'm still trying to decide how best to start ramping it up towards 10k.

cinnamongreyhound · 15/01/2014 14:31

What's the grizzly milewalker?

Sorry to hear things aren't quite going to plan IwishIwasmoreorganised!

I'm RD this week, so far only two volunteers uh oh!

runningLou · 15/01/2014 14:48

Just saying hi, only just found this thread and I LOVE parkrun - got my 50 t-shirt in December last year, in the week of my birthday! But, then took a week off for Christmas then ran first one of the year and horribly twisted my knee going over muddy finish line :( Still limping. I hate winter running and injuries.
New Year diet going well but no weight lost so far as I think it's the running that really helps me and I can't do it!! And I got new trainers for Christmas I've not even been able to try yet!!

milewalker · 15/01/2014 16:21

the grizzly is a race run at seaton in devon. its 20ish milles of hills, bogs, shingle beaches, cliff tops, mud and more hills. it was a ballot entry and to be honest I never thought I'd get drawn out so was bit of a shock when I did. I've seen youtube clips and it looks hard, more of an endurance thing I think.
firemen hose you down at the end and I've heard the water they use although cold feels warm due to it being so cold on the route.

milewalker · 15/01/2014 16:28
I've not done links before very well so am hoping this one takes you to the grizzly promo video. it is an old one though.
thenightsky · 15/01/2014 18:33

Went to physio today with my hip that went crunch last Saturday. Good news is that she thinks its just a very tight IT band. Bad news is it is mostly likely caused by trapped nerves in my back. Anyway, I'm a lot better after a massage and ultrasound treatment. I'll be sticking to a stretching programme she's given me too. Hopefully I should be able to jog gently in about a week. Smile
