Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Does anyone do the Hampstead Heath Parkrun? Is there parking? I used to park on the Bishop's Ave and run around the NE end of the Heath, but the parkrun route is the other side. Public transport would be a pita (I'd be coming from Woodside Park). Anyone know? Ta Smile

YippeeKiYayMakkaPakka · 10/01/2014 10:30

And sorry about your calf Blathers. Swimming sounds good though.

Blatherskite · 10/01/2014 13:30

My swim today was great. I've always assumed my swimming stroke was one step up from drowning but I saw the kids old swim teacher today who told me my breast stroke was very good!

It was nice to give my calf a break too. It's nowhere near as sore as it was, just a bit achey after runs. Hopefully having today off will mean it copes with parkrun tomorrow and possibly a long run on Sunday.

MelanieCheeks · 10/01/2014 13:59

Yes, hope it's well enough for your PR.

I haven't managed a run All Week. Not One. I do intened to PR tomorrow, but sadly my time will be slow, I fear.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/01/2014 22:08

Blathers - where are you going tomorrow?

lego - I have PM'd you - still planning to come and see you if you are up for it Smile

Standingonlego · 10/01/2014 22:44

OhOne PMed you back - see you in the morning :)

Anyone else fancy a trip to sunny Northampton tomorrow to join us?

blather great to have a swim compliment! Melanie i am a non-runner this week too, keep repeating it is a run not a race to myself Grin

Standingonlego · 10/01/2014 22:45

Yippee hope some is able to help you, there is usually lots of info on the individual park run website or facebook pages.

karatekimmi · 11/01/2014 07:10

Erm, I have a confession to make. I organised babysitters so I could go to my running club, but decided not to run last night as I'm doing a 10k run on Sunday. I forgot to cancel my babysitter, so when she turned up, I went shopping!!

I better do my 2 runs this weekend now!!

melliebobs · 11/01/2014 08:13

Just about to get my kit on n go. It's raining. sigh. Every run this week has been in the rain. Confused

Anyone signed up to Jantastic??

Iggity · 11/01/2014 10:13

So annoyed. Turned up to Black Park parkrun this morning and the car park was mayhem. Half of it had been allocated to a film crew. Had to turn and go home. There is no other parking. Felt like crying. If I'd kept on schedule, I was due to complete my 50th run the day after my birthday in March. Do disappointed. :( Wish Bucks council had the decency to let the parkrun organisers know these things given the huge amounts they pull in for parking fees every Sat. morning.

Hope everyone else managed to get to theirs and enjoyed it.

thenightsky · 11/01/2014 10:39

Disappointment for me too today.

Road works and a diversion made me 5 mins late. Then, 10 mins into the run, I stepped sideways to let the fastest guy past (he lapped me easily coz i was so late) and there was a horrible crunchy ripping sound inside my hip/pelvis. I had to drop out and limp back to the car Sad

I've now got pain all in my left bum cheek and all down the outside of my leg to the back of my knee and down the inside of my thigh feels really tight and painful.

MelanieCheeks · 11/01/2014 11:23

Oh dear, hugs for the disappointments.

I wasn't expecting much - forecast was for ice so I half expected it to be cancelled. But no, it was cold and a bit damp, but runnable. I couldnt get MapMyRun to work, so I just picked someone I knew could run a bit faster than me, and kept them in my sights.

I've only gorn and done a PB - smashed the 27 minute target an all - 26.44.
Gobsamcked. And grinning from ear to ear.

karatekimmi · 11/01/2014 12:16

iggity that sucks.
thenightsky rest, ice, compression elevation (not sure how you'd compress a hip though) hope its a quick recovery

Mel fantastic well done!!

We had a record turn out, and I plodded round with a friend, as I'm attempting a 10k tomorrow!! its a charity fun run, I'm not even sure if it is timed!

karatekimmi · 11/01/2014 12:16

not as many as Bushy park!! Wow!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/01/2014 13:48

kimmi I like your style (shopping instead of running). Good luck tomorrow Smile

How annoying Iggity

Ouch nightsky RICE and healing vibes for you

Well done Melanie

I went to Northampton and met the lovely lego today. I got a bit lost and then had trouble parking so only just made it to the start on time. I asked one lady fitting lego's description, who wasn't her, but had also been asked by lego if she was me Grin. We had a lovely cuppa and chat afterwards Smile

Iggity · 11/01/2014 13:48

Nightsky, hope the injury heals quickly. Sounds very sore.

Just checked the stats for my parkrun and 469 people took part which probably explains the mayhem as well as lack of parking.

I'm glad this is parkrunners anonymous because I feel so sad today! I think I must be addicted. I remain on parkrun number 40 until next week when I might camp out the night before.

Off to find some carrot cake to cheer me up!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/01/2014 13:52

I would be miffed too if that happened to me Iggity. In fact I'm still a bit miffed about the time my barcode didn't work and they didn't put it right, which means I've done a run more than my record says Smile

Standingonlego · 11/01/2014 13:58

Nightsky - ouch - sounds horrid, definately RICE it and maybe get yourself a doc or physio appointment lined up. fingers crossed nothing too scary :(

I had a good run, but the best thing was to meet OhOne. It was lovely to have a cuppa and a gossip :) Thank you for coming over and so funny we both targeted the same person Grin. Friendly parkrun stuff :)

I think we had a near record turnout today in Northampton as Milton Keynes was flooded there were lots of Parkrun tourists.I was virtually the same position this week as last, but nearly 9 minutes difference in time!

Iggity there is always next week, 50th run will just be a post-birthday celebratory run instead Wink

Standingonlego · 11/01/2014 13:59

Just checked - we had 285 today - our all time record attendance!

karatekimmi · 11/01/2014 15:21

oh damn you lego our new record was 273!!!

It must be all those new years resoultions with records being broken everywhere!!

cinnamongreyhound · 11/01/2014 16:10

That's rubbish Iggity and thenightsky! Hope that next week is more successful and that you heal quickly.

I've been quite lucky this week Melliebobs and only had one wet run.

Love your confession karatekimmi and good luck for tomorrow :)

Fantastic melaniecheeks! There is sometimes something to be said for just running, trusting how you feel and not knowing your pace.

Lovely that you both met up and had good runs OhOneOhTwoOhThree and standingonlego :)

Well I was late today so my fantastic run was recorded as ok! I usually cut it fine as I get up in time to walk dogs first and put out two signs closest to my home then drop dogs home and jog to parkrun. Ds2 wanted something to eat and drink and didn't want daddy to get it so I did to keep the peace and I'm sure they started a bit early too. I took littlest dog and we did blimmin' well. I got 27m47 but I must have been at least a minute behind. I started my garmin when I saw that people had gone rather than when I started which would have been more sensible to get a good idea of my time!! I live very close to a centre Parcs so we often get tourists :)

Blatherskite · 11/01/2014 16:24

I went over to St Albans parkrun today as it was their birthday but from the looks of things no one but us knew! It's MK's birthday next weekend and we're planning cakes and banners and there will definitely be a mention of it in the pre-run briefing but they had nothing at all. It was all a bit sad really.

It must be the week for disasters as all of the scanners were bust at St Albans today so none of the barcodes would scan! The marshals were writing everyone's place and codes down by hand and the RD is going to put them in manually this afternoon!! I don't envy him the job but am very grateful that he's doing it. Apparently, all of the scanners got wet in the rain last week so they're all misted up with condensation and wouldn't read anything. I hope they can get them dry and fixed for next week!

If anyone is close enough to make it over to MK next weekend then please come and have some cake with us. If the lake is still flooded, we'll probably do the alternative out and back route which is about 6k but still counts as a parkrun. I'll be there in my red t-shirt :)

Going to attempt a long-ish run tomorrow. I haven't gone further than about 5 miles since I tore my calf (apart from that disastrous trail 10k) so I'm a bit nervous. I really feel like I've lost my mojo recently and running is feeling really hard at the moment Sad

I hope your leg feels better soon thenightsky Definitely RICE it!

Iggity I felt exactly the same when I drove all the way to Barnstaple parkrun when we were on holiday and then couldn't find it! I think I actually had a cry from the frustration on the way home.

Well done on your PB Mel Such a great feeling when it all goes well.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/01/2014 16:28

I've just checked my home parkrun attendance - 297, smashing the previous record. Lots of MK refugees by the looks of it Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/01/2014 16:30

Waves to Blathers - we were posting at the same time Smile

MrsMot · 11/01/2014 16:34

Hello ladies, ok if I join you? I've done bits of C25K before but am determined to get running properly this year. If ds gets his 10 shirt we'll let him get an x-Box...

Did my second, ds's 1st at Black Park this am.

Iggity we got there at 8.40 and the car park was pretty full then. They held the start until nearly 9.05 so more people could get in/pay for parking. Sorry to hear you didn't get through :(

The park's very often used for films - they're shooting a night scene this pm, not sure what for, but there were huge fake gates just after the 1k mark.

Was absolutely jammed at the start and some stupidly aggressive pushing.
