Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Only a mile and a half for me this morning. I would have done more but DD was at a Princess Disco party at 11.30 and I had promised a friend I would do a lap of her lakeside marathon with her so I was stuck for time. No idea what I'll do tomorrow. Kids are home and there is no running club night either!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/01/2014 21:10

Did you manage to get out Blathers?

I did 6.4 miles in sunshine, wind and rain - today is my last proper day off before I go back to work. I start my new job properly on Weds, but am going in for a meeting tomorrow for an hour or so. Then it will be back to weekend running Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 06/01/2014 21:36

I went with doggys and humans tonight with headtorches in the forest. Was a lovely 5 miles, only 4 of us today but nice company and no rain. Why only weekend running OhOneOhTwoOhThree?

Blatherskite · 06/01/2014 21:55

I did 2 runs tonight - one with DS as he asked to come again and a slightly faster 2 miles on my own. Knot in my calf is back but I'm hoping a good stretch and a rest and it'll be fine tomorrow. It wasn't sore just 'there' IYSWIM?

Blatherskite · 06/01/2014 21:56

Oh and good luck with your new job OhOne

Blatherskite · 07/01/2014 14:43

One of my running clubs is doing an "Improve your 5k" course with a view to helping people to run parkrun faster. I've signed up!!

It's 10 weekly training sessions and then 'homework' to do between sessions. I start at the end of January! Am equally scared and excited :)

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 07/01/2014 16:49

That sounds fab Blathers

Can you pass on their tips?!

melliebobs · 07/01/2014 16:52

Went back to ParkRun at the weekend after 3 months off with. Well. Life. 20 secs off a PB so can't grumble. And today I was up n out at 6:45aml for a 5 mile run Smile

Blatherskite · 07/01/2014 17:27

I'll let you know what we're doing :)

cinnamongreyhound · 07/01/2014 19:38

Sounds good melliebobs!

They had a workshop on the same thing at my club but it was the same day as my half marathon :( Look forward to details :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/01/2014 20:02

Thanks Blathers, look forward to hearing how to improve our 5K times Smile

cinnamon - I leave the house before 7am and don't get back until at least 7pm and find it really hard to motivate myself to go out in the dark. But I have a running buddy at work, so if I can organise myself to take running gear to work we are going to try a weekly lunchtime 5K.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/01/2014 21:10

That's rubbish, I'm working 6.30-7 three days a week and 7.30-5.30 the other two so not as bad but I do go out in the dark twice a week usually.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/01/2014 21:30

Those are long days cinnamon!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/01/2014 21:31

Those are long days cinnamon!

cinnamongreyhound · 07/01/2014 21:50

My work comes to me so at least no commute!

Blatherskite · 07/01/2014 22:05

DH is out of the house between 6am and 6pm every day so I'm often running in the dark too. Tomorrow morning will be one of the exceptions. One of my clubs does a morning run the coincides with one of the days that DD is at pre school. I've run every day of Janathon so far!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 07/01/2014 22:21

I signed up to do 3 runs a week with Jantastic but I'm going to fail miserably now.

I'll be ok this week, but DH has found out today that he is going to be away with work next week so I'll only manage 2 and then we're in holiday the week after so that's be nine that week Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 07/01/2014 22:23

My friend has signed up for 4 with jantastic, I generally run 4 times but wouldn't like to be tied to it.

MelanieCheeks · 08/01/2014 09:46

Looking forward to the tips, Blathers!

I had a really tough run last Saturday - I was with my parents up on the north coast, so I decided to do the Portrush ParkRun which is run on the beach. I'd done it in May last year, and found the soft sand very challenging, but was aiming to beat my previous time on that course.

Not a chance! The tide had just turned, leaving a very narrow path of soft sand to run on, and even that ran out at one stage leaving a choice between scrabbling over rocks, or getting feet wet.

Blatherskite · 08/01/2014 12:08

I'm doing Janathon rather than Jantastic as all I have to do for Janathon is some sort of exercise every day. So if I can't run, I can walk/bike/swim/plank - and on one memorable occasion try to pass off pushing a trolley round Tesco as 'resistance training'!

Standingonlego · 08/01/2014 17:49

I need to get a few miles in too, look forward to the 5k improvers tips.

I have a 5k dirt/trail run a week on Sunday so need to get some practice in. Hoping to get into more of a routine now DC, DH and me are all back at work/school. Went to gym yesterday and am aching...thinking of restarting the dreaded shred as well (but need to find my weigths, somewhere in playroom...probably under the lego mountain) [hmmm]

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 08/01/2014 20:21

Running this month isn't happening much here Sad

I was going to do some intervals tonight, but it's absolutely pouring down and my motivation has gone AWOL.

Perhaps I night need to do a bit of shredding on nights to like tonight (not tonight though!)

karatekimmi · 08/01/2014 20:46

I've been out twice in the rain with my new running club this week, and I've really enjoyed it. I definately wouldn't have gone by myself!!

Blatherskite · 08/01/2014 22:27

I've run every day this month so far. Was planning to run tomorrow too but will depend on whether this knot in my calf has gone away by the morning :(

cinnamongreyhound · 09/01/2014 07:23

Oh no Blatherskite! Have you got anymore physio booked?

I got very wet this morning, hate the rain :(
