Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

That was horrible!

The course was entirely trail (upwards sideways slopes, mud, potholes the lot) and even with head torches, pitch black. There were no paths and because it wasn't particularly well marked it was really easy to get disorientated. No chips either, times were done with a 'dobber' you wore on your finger which was a pain to wear and meant that you had to stop and 'dob' your finger into a little box to be counted in which held things up when lots of people finished at once. Plus, the time started when the RD said "go" rather than when you crossed the start line. Race numbers were written in marker on the back of our hands too!

Calf held up well but did start hurting at about 4k. I'm ice-ing and elevating it now. Forgot my Garmin too so all I have is the dobber time. I think even taking off the wasted time at the beginning and end, that's still my slowest 10k ever.

Assuming I can run, we're coming to do your parkrun next weekend OhFour, will you be there?

thenightsky · 30/11/2013 22:07

Knackerelli - he is scary but you can borrow him if you live near Scunthorpe Grin

Blatherskite · 30/11/2013 22:15

I'll be back in Doncaster for Christmas. Can I borrow him night? :)

WhomessweetWhomes · 30/11/2013 22:16

No Parkrun for me today as I'm saving my energy for a 10k X-country race tomorrow. Eek! It's my first proper trail run and I feel very unprepared.

thenightsky · 30/11/2013 22:32

Blathers - he's a harsh trainer who can run the legs of most people I know, and he turns 70 years old next summer! Shock

Blatherskite · 30/11/2013 22:35

I'm going to need harsh if I'm going to beat my Doncaster parkrun PB!

thenightsky · 30/11/2013 22:42

What's yer PB Blathers?

OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 30/11/2013 22:55

Oh pooh Blathers, probably not. I will know towards the end of the week - depends on DS1's rugby commitments. He's missed the last two matches because of a head bang in training 10 days ago and is somewhat fed up about it.

OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 30/11/2013 22:57

Happy birthday cinnamon Cake

Fab PBs kimmi, wem and nightsky.

Great running lego.

Looking forward to going out tomorrow.

jchocchip · 01/12/2013 07:08

Happy Birthday Cinnamon!
Good luck with your 10k whomes.
Did my flat parkrun course yesterday and managed to jog the whole way. Didn't quite come last either, which makes a change! Foot hurts today though, Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 01/12/2013 07:59

That's funny thenightsky! Well done!

Well done wem!

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your night run Blatherskite :( I did a 5 miler that was a ready steady go start and people taking down your number as you crossed the line and writing the number on the stop watch :) I guess it depends on how much money the club who's running it has. We did get a real number and a bottle of beer though. It was my favourite race so far and I'm definitely doing it again next year Grin

Don't worry WhomessweetWhomes, cross country is fab! Much rather run off road than on, easier on the knees and more variety :)

Blatherskite · 01/12/2013 08:08

PB for Doncaster is 25:38 night. Much fast than my PB on my normal course.

I wouldn't mind the basic timing cinnamon only we'd paid £18 each for entry! They were struggling to get entries and e-mailed me after I entered to see if I could help spread the word, which I did, so they've offered me a free entry to another of their runs (it's a proper events company who organised it) but I'm not sure I'm going to take them up on it.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/12/2013 08:13

£18 is not cheap! My half marathon was only £20!!! I agree you expect more from an events company, perhaps it's the number of entrants rather than the entrance few that determine if you can afford decent timings?

And well done for jogging the while course jchocchip Grin

MelanieCheeks · 01/12/2013 10:03

Some great running there, folks, and Happy Birthday Cinnamon!

My headphones were mucking about yesterday which cost me some seconds of faffing, and then I had no music or pace-feedback. So I was delighted with a run time of 28:03. It's not a PB.....but it's my second best time :-)

thenightsky · 01/12/2013 16:57

I'm now even happier.... Just seen my email from Saturday and I came FIRST in my age group!!! Grin

OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 01/12/2013 18:29

Well done Melanie and nightsky! Great running!

DH did his second ever parkrun yesterday after over 6 months off after knee surgery and was still faster than my PB Envy - I shall make him be my pacer next time.

I have managed 5 and a bit miles today - wanted to do more but no time. Not exactly prepared for next Sunday's half marathon Grin.

karatekimmi · 02/12/2013 06:58

I did 9k yesterday pretty slowly, but at least I got out wishes I had a babysitter all the time

I really want to fit in an extra run midweek, but I really struggle to find even half an hour!! The worst of it is we have a fairly rubbish treadmill at home!! I must make more of an effort!

Standingonlego · 02/12/2013 16:10

Excited as going to a running club training session for first time tonight!!! I did Body Attack at the gym this morning, so tomorrow might be a bit sore - but as DH home today grabbing the opportunity to try it out :)

IsThatTrue · 02/12/2013 16:14

I've been neglecting the thread. Ds2 is poorly and we're just getting possession of the new house so I have a lot on my plate. I haven't run since thurs and haven't even managed to use my new garmin yet :(

But I'll get back to it soon enough. And hopefully I'll have time to catch up with you all soon.

Happy running.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/12/2013 17:48

What did you get IsThatTrue? I got a forerunner 110 from my Dad for my birthday Grin

Standingonlego · 02/12/2013 17:48

IsThat hope DS feels better soon, and house proceeds smoothly with minimal hassle. We will all still be here when everything has calmed down a bit !

Blatherskite · 02/12/2013 18:40

DS has just broken out in spots so it looks like we're doing round 2 of Chicken Pox here! Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 02/12/2013 19:51

:(

karatekimmi · 02/12/2013 20:57

Poor you xx

I've just sorted my diary out for the rest of the year, and have offered to volunteer the day after my Christmas party!! I figure I probably won't be running, but the fresh air will do me good and it means I won't get too drunk

My parkrun isn't doing a Christmas Day run, but they are doing a New Year's Day run. I haven't decided what I'm doing over new year yet, but it might be a nice way to start the new year!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/12/2013 21:03

I don't think we're doing a Christmas Day one either, we only had 24 runner this week so don't want to end up with more volunteers than runners Wink
