Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

Those stretches are great! I wish I'd been doing them for the last couple of months Smile.

BlathAarghZombieBite · 22/10/2013 21:38

The stretches are definitely helping my knee. It's nowhere near as sore now as it was. It seems the physio was right and all the pain was caused by the muscles around my knee rather than my knee itself.

I've just done the routine again having got back from tonight's 10k. Managed to get home before the rain started thankfully.

cinnamongreyhound · 23/10/2013 20:39

Wanted to ask how you feel about volunteering?

Just received a plea for volunteers for this saturdays parkrun as there are only 3 so far. I am happy to but I prefer to run, I'm RD next week and I've run 16, volunteered 13 and not been arounda at all for 3 since our parkrun started. I have also set up and taken down some weeks I've run and feel that I do my bit and others should volunteer BUT because I volunteer regularly I feel it's expected of me by the team. I want to hide, sneak to run and then slip away but that's :(. Hoping a few more volunteer before Fri evening and then I won't have the dilemma!

Oooohhhh a marathon, good luck OhOneOhTwoOhThree!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/10/2013 21:11

I feel guilty for not volunteering more often cinnamon. My excuse is that my training plan has had me running 3 miles every Saturday, so I've needed to run Grin. But I will volunteer after 3 November except for Blathers' 50th if she hasn't done it by the time I'm back

IsThatTrue · 23/10/2013 23:54

cinnamon I try and volunteer once a month but I split that between the 2 parkruns I run regularly. I've only done roles that enable me to run too so far as I really want a tshirt. 12 runs down 28 to go.

Had a good buggy run with a friend this morning, it was really hard work. I didn't have much dinner the night before as I wasn't hungry, so maybe I need to look at my diet before runs.

Sorry IsThatTrue but 38 to go :( I run early with me friend once a week usually we meet at 6.15 and I find as long as I've drunk plenty the evening before and I have a glass of water before I go I'm fine. I know some people find it hard to run after drinking but as long as I'm hydrated I can have a rumbling tummy and be fine. I too want a t-shirt and so want to improve my pb!!!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 24/10/2013 10:21

Morning! Lovely day here, but cold out earlier - wished I'd had gloves on for the first time this autumn.

I run on coffee, toast and a Berocca in the mornings. I need something in my tummy before I start. And agree with cinnamon that hydration is also important.

BlathAarghZombieBite · 24/10/2013 10:31

I know exactly what you mean about the volunteering pressure!

I admit that I have prioritised running this year so that I could work towards my t-shirt but that just means that whenever I've volunteered, it's been as a tail runner as I would feel guilty not to help at all. There are obviously lots of others who don't feel the same though Sad Our parkrun gets 450 runners regularly which should mean that everyone needs to volunteer only once a year for all the roles to be filled but week after week, the volunteer roster shows the same names again and again and every week a begging email goes round asking for help. The RD always mentions it in the pre run briefing too. There is a lot of talk about creating a second parkrun here but if we can't get enough volunteers to run 1 how on earth would we cover 2?!

I have 3 runs to go until I get my lovely red tshirt and then I'll volunteer for a few more jobs but really, having volunteered about 4 times already this year, I shouldn't have to. I will though because I love parkrun and without the volunteers it just wouldn't happen.

IsThatTrue · 24/10/2013 12:18

Yep cinnamon, I can't type! Lol

Good interval run this morning. I'm odd that I hate being hot so I was still in Capri trousers and a strappy top. :)

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 12:47

My hands were very cold running at 6.15 this morning but I'm sitting in the sun with ds2 playing in the sand at the park and its beautiful!

That's what I feel as well if everyone did one week in 6 volunteering it would be more evenly spaced. I seem to remember the parkrun email saying you need to volunteer 3 times a year for posts to be filled? We only have 30-40 runners so not such a big pool to chose from. Also our slowest runner is often 40mins so tail runner is a slow jog. We only started ours in march so no one is anywhere near 50 from our regulars.

MelanieCheeks · 24/10/2013 19:21

I really want to run this week - I'll miss the next 2 weekends. My 499 position on the top 500 times isnt going to last long, but I've just discovered the age grading league table as well, where I'm at number 245!

I'v volunteered once this year, will definitely do it again before the end of November. And earning my 50-Tshirt is one of my targets for 2014 (I've done 23 this year, so that should be acheivable)

BlathAarghZombieBite · 24/10/2013 22:18

I'm going to really take my time over this weeks parkrun as I have a 10k in the evening too. It's a bit of a pity as I've been feeling really good this week and there are going to be pacers this week so I could push for my sub 26 minute parkrun but I'm a bit worried that if I do, I'll end up hobbling round the 10k or - even worse - being so knackered by 9pm that I want to go to bed and miss out on a night out with friends!

IsThatTrue · 24/10/2013 22:48

I can't decide if I'll run or not yet Confused it'll be the first I've missed since early august, which will be a shame, but I'd love a lie in. Although how much of one I'll get anyway with ds2 I don't know. Also I'm out tomorrow night with my running club drinking wine discussing races and getting tshirts printed

Tell me what to do oh wise parkrunners!

IsThat you need to keep in the groove, even if you walk round Smile.

Shock at Blathers running twice one day. Having said that, I did 4 miles yesterday morning, and was considering doing a bit more late afternoon (I think this is the taper madness I've been reading about).

6 miles in 1:00:36 this morning...if only I hadn't stopped to take off my jacket at the halfway point and lost a minute.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/10/2013 15:02

DS1 has agreed to run with me tomorrow! Last time he didn't finish as he was running with a partially-dislocated shoulder (rubgy-related), so whatever time he does will be a PB.

BlathAarghZombieBite · 25/10/2013 15:36

I have run lots this week OhOne and I don't have taper madness to blame! I did 10 miles on Sunday, 10k on Tuesday, a 4mile trail run on Wednesday and another 10k on Thursday! I've had today off :)

I just feel really comfortable with it all at the moment. My knee is finally better and I'm really enjoying it. I should probably back off a bit before I damage something else though.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/10/2013 17:01

Sounds good Blathers, but do give yourself a couple of rest days a week (advice given to me by the parkrunner who gave up Marathons when he'd done 130 of them, and is trying to run either 70 events because he's in his 70th year or 75 because he's in his 75th - can't remember which). The advice clearly worked for him over the years - he's still faster than I am, and won a prize last month for the number of PBs he'd had!

I've just worked out I've done just over marathon distance this week - 12, 5, 4 and 6, with 3 tomorrow and another 12 on Sunday. The a 5, 4 and a 2 before the big day. It's so weird, when I started C25K I couldn't imagine running half a mile. Now 2 miles sounds far too short to bother going out for Grin

IsThatTrue · 25/10/2013 19:02

ohone I was talking to a friend about running and how the parameters change so quickly. I started in a running club similar to couch25k (run/walk style) and I couldn't imagine running continuously for more than 5/6 minutes at a time (and even then only at 12-13 min/miles) now I don't run for less than 30 minutes. I can easily run for an hour without stopping and am easy run is around a 9.30 min/mile! Shock

I'm still in awe of your 10+ mile runs, that's what I can't imagine now. although severly tempted by a half marathon near me with wine tasting on the way round and a hog roast at the end

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 25/10/2013 19:55

Yep I'm the same! C25k and now even 5k is a bit short, parkrun is my only 5k the rest are always longer.

Sounds interesting IsThatTrue, I can barely drink the water I'm given in races let alone wine! Hog roast is always good though Wink

BlathAarghZombieBite · 25/10/2013 20:22

I'll have had Monday, Friday and Sunday off so almost half the week not running. I should cover just over a marathon distance too. I did just over 26 miles last week too. It seems so easy over the course of a week, still not sure I could do it all in one go though!

MelanieCheeks · 25/10/2013 22:23

A half marathon with wine and hog roast? Where is this nirvana!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/10/2013 10:58

I did run and there were lots of volunteers this week. Definitely not a pb but the barcode scanner cocked up may have made a mistake so hoping it all works out. That's number 17 for me and RD next week :)

jchocchip · 26/10/2013 14:06

Came last today but faster than I have been post bursitis :).

IsThatTrue · 26/10/2013 14:58

I have only managed to crawl to the bathroom today. There was rather more wine than my empty stomach could cope with!

Bad isthat!

Ah well, there's always next week.

OP posts:
MelanieCheeks · 26/10/2013 15:08

Ohmygogohmygodohmygod! I smashed my previous time and came in at 27.25, I've gone from number 499 on the best times list to number 445, my age graded result has gone from 245 to 202, and I'm top of the female points table! You want to see how wide my smile is today:-)
