Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

Thanks Blathers! There is even a random photo of me from this morning (I didn't even see anyone taking picturesGrin ) on the FB page so I was definitely there. I have a plastic barcode so am a bit Confused that it didn't scan.

woundbobbin · 19/10/2013 20:20

I did 29.24 not to awful feel a bit guilty about my friend as her pb is about 24mins so I def slowed her down.
Well done everyone on the good times esp with the grotty weather.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/10/2013 10:31

Well done PepeLePew!!

Hope you're feeling ok isThatTrue and no sore anywhere today. Well done on your pb :)

Well done for getting through wem, think you are familiar from c25k thread?

I wouldn't even attempt our parkrun with the buggy woundbobbin, that's amazing! Don't feel Bad about your friend it's not all about pb's and I she wouldn't have run with you if she didn't want to Grin

We just take down the barcode if they won't scan an add them when putting the results on OhOneOhTwoOhThree, but we are quite small. Hope you can get it sorted.

Standingonlego · 20/10/2013 13:03

I was made very welcome as a tourist by the lovely team at Bournemouth park run yesterday's morning - and they were very helpful with my barcode crisis :)

A slow run for me, first trot out in a long time, but my friend PB'ed for that course with a sub 25.

Really enjoyed it, looking forward to next week.

Well done to everyone, we will need a new thread soon!!!

Blatherskite · 20/10/2013 13:25

I haven't run more than 10k since my accidental half marathon that left me with the sore knee so this morning's 10 miles felt a lot harder than I remember that distance being. It's done now though and I'm stretching like mad to try and make sure it doesn't get sore again.

Upping my distance really helped with my parkrun times last time I built up so hopefully a few long runs will help me to get a PB for my 50th - or break me so that I can't run. One of the two! Grin

EugenesAxe · 20/10/2013 14:27

Nice one everyone! I am still rubbish at 40mins or so, but yay! Hmm I PBed yesterday by 24 secs....

wem · 20/10/2013 16:11

Well done EugenesAxe :) a PB's a PB!

Hi cinnamon, yes, I started out on c25k :) I graduated a while ago and started on parkruns instead, but have taken a few steps back recently. I need to get back into it quick as I'm supposed to be doing a 10k in 4 weeks time!

cinnamongreyhound · 20/10/2013 16:18

I am still on the c25k thread wem :)
Sounds like you're getting back into it though, I have a half marathon in 4 weeks!

Blatherskite · 20/10/2013 16:24

I agree with wem. A PB is a PB Eugene. Everyone has to start somewhere and 40 minutes is still a hell of a lot faster than many people could run 5k. Well done :)

wem · 20/10/2013 16:59

That's brilliant cinnamon, good luck! I'm not very good at keeping up on long running threads, they were always very friendly over there though :)

Knackerelli · 20/10/2013 18:48

Well done everyone, good times all round. Yes Eugenesaxe, I'm talking to you!! You were there and you did it, that's loads better than most people! Sadly that includes me as due to family commitments couldn't do yesterday or next week Sad but ill be back the week after plodding along.

MelanieCheeks · 20/10/2013 18:51

Any run is a good run. And a run that's faster than your last one is a GREAT run!

IsThatTrue · 20/10/2013 20:28

I agree with everyone else eugene you got off your ass and ran. That in itself is amazing. And a pb is even better, my pb this week was by 1 second, I'm still claiming it! :)

wound don't feel bad, I bet your friend enjoyed a nice run with you. If she wanted to speed off she would have done.

cinnamon I'm feeling ok now, my hip Hirt this morning and it felt like I'd pulled down the inside of the opposite thigh. But both are feeling better now. My shin is pretty scraped up but I only notice when ds2 pulls himself up on my legs.

standing I'm glad you enjoyed your run. Sometimes it's hard to get back out there after a break.

blathers I hope your stretching does the trick. 10 miles is just amazing!

knackerelli my weekends are organised around parkrun Blush > slightly addicted <

Right everyone, what shall we name the next thread?!

BlathAarghZombieBite · 21/10/2013 18:08

Just saw this on the parkrun FB feed and thought of you Pepe...

"Wishing a massive 'welcome to the family' to every one of the 5,145 people who took part in their first UK parkrun on Saturday... you are truly amazing."

I agree Grin

Stretching worked a treat and my legs are totally fine today - even coming down stairs! Shock Hopefully this means no more knee pain as long as I keep stretching like I have been. I found a yoga based video on Youtube which has made such a lot of difference.

BlathAarghZombieBite · 21/10/2013 18:10

Why not call it 'The parkrun family' True? Or 'parkrunners anonymous' being as we're all addicts now Grin

Just remember that parkrun is a registered trademark and shouldn't be capitalised Wink

IsThatTrue · 21/10/2013 18:20

Ooo I like parkrunners anonymous! :)

I can't run in the morning now but it's prob good to give my poor over stretched thigh a rest.

Liking your Halloween name Blathers Grin

I am going to steal Melanie's "Any run is a good run. And a run that's faster than your last one is a GREAT run!".

I did 12 miles yesterday, day off today and itching to be outside (I'm tapering, so running shorter distances, and missed a day last week because my achilles/calf was hurting).

The lovely run director has emailed to say she will see what she can do about my result from Saturday (not that I'm obsessing or anything, and it wasn't a PB Grin)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/10/2013 19:15

Blathers, meant to say would you mind linking to your youtube yoga stretching thingy?

cinnamongreyhound · 21/10/2013 21:12

That's a fab distance OhOneOhTwoOhThree! I missed my long run yesterday so did a longish one today but only got to 8 miles. Did 4 in the forest with dogs and the rest on the road. Glad they are looking into your mis scan it's another 1 towards a t-shirt Grin

MelanieCheeks · 21/10/2013 21:28

Just discovered that I make the list of top 500 times at my Parkrun! Ok, I'm number 499, but I have a huge cheesy grin at that.

PepeLePew · 21/10/2013 21:42

Thanks Blathers (can I call you that? Have lurked for ages!) Grin.

I can see how this could become addictive. I spoke to a friend yesterday who was seriously impressed I'd started with the course I did - there are several nearby that are flat, and this one is notoriously hilly. So I am pondering becoming a parkrun tart and trying different courses in search of a faster time...

Inspired by speed, I went to the gym and tried some
interval training. Not good - on my fifth 45 second sprint, I wasn't going fast enough and slid ungracefully off the back of the treadmill onto some poor guy's feet. I was a sweaty mess by that stage so it wasn't pretty. Perhaps speed is best attempted outside...

IsThatTrue · 21/10/2013 21:50

pepe I find intervals are best done where nobody can see me! And Grin at being a parkrun tart!

ohone good luck with your tapering, when's your race?

I'm making dd's birthday cake and eating a lot of it and wishing I had gone for a run today.

I must go and buy a new sports bra soon though, the old norkage is starting to bounce since I've lost weight, which can't be good for them.

IsThatTrue · 21/10/2013 21:51

Oh and a massive congratulations melanie that's amazing!

BlathAarghZombieBite · 21/10/2013 21:51

Feel free to call me Blathers or Blaths. Every one else does :)

We call it parkrun tourism when you go to loads of different ones. I've only managed 1 not at my 'home' course so far (2 if you count the trial run) but I'm doing another one in a couple of weeks. It's nice to have a change of scenery every now and again.

is the video I've been using OhOne. It's about 7 or 8 minutes long which seems to be enough but she does say you could do it 2 or 3 times if you wanted or needed to. I like that she just gets on with the stretches instead of getting all spiritual about it too.
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/10/2013 17:36

Thanks for the link Blathers. I'm just back from a 5 mile trot so will have a go before I shower and cook dinner.

I've only done two parkruns - my local and the one near where my parents live. I would like to try some others.

IsThat - I just got 2 new bras from BraBar - 28 quid each, free postage if you spent more than 50 quid.

My marathon is a week on Sunday .
