Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

Thats really good that you got your DS to do it isthat. Ours has a hill for the first 600m so DS (4.5) always pulls out half way up it. I did take him to the junior parkrun at Bushy Park last Sunday. Unfortunately I parked at the wrong end of it so we had to walk/run 3k to get to start so DS was exhausted. He managed the 2k but mainly walked....don't blame him!

IsThatTrue · 12/10/2013 19:53

I am very proud of him, he's really enthusiastic which is great. I've convinced him he needs to run at least once a week to try and train his legs. So when dd is in an after school club we're going to do a half hour run each weds.

They were great on their sponsored walk too!

ohone your day sounds very energetic despite no parkrun.

flossie you are more than welcome to post as a regular runner. The parkrun family is the most inclusive I know. We won't discriminate as you don't have a local one. (Maybe you could look at helping open one Wink)

Blatherskite · 12/10/2013 19:58

There is a 6yo at ours who beats me regularly. He is well under 30 minutes now!

Today one of my running clubs turned up en mass to parkrun and I got to help pace one of my club mates to a new PB :) That's number 46 done and dusted. So nearly there.

Very excited about tomorrow. One of my friends is the RD at a brand new parkrun and I'm going over tomorrow to do a trial run of the course!! I am really excited and DH just doesn't get it so I thought I'd tell you lot Wink

Standingonlego · 12/10/2013 20:06

Blathers how exciting - can you tell us where or is it a big secret?

IsThatTrue · 12/10/2013 20:11

Oh blathers that's great! Well done on the pacing today too, you star.

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/10/2013 23:12

Blathers you star!

Blatherskite · 13/10/2013 10:00

Nah, it was only a case of slowing down a bit. She put all the effort in!

It's Aylesbury I'm trialling. It's absolutely bucketing it down but I can't wait :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/10/2013 15:50

Actually Blathers (aka Ms Modest) I think pacing is really hard.

We have one pacer who is excellent. He runs a 9:20, followed by a 9:40, followed by a 10:00 and is always pretty much on the nail for a 30 minute finish. But we had another pacer last week who said he was doing a 30:00 but ended up zooming off after the second lap. When I came towards the finish (and it was a 28: something for me) he was standing towards the end cheering us on. I guess he rejoined the run at some point to finish in 30:00, but if I'd have been following him for a 30 min finish/been a newer runner/didn't have a garmin to tell me my own pace I would not been able to keep up and been really discouraged.

Hope you enjoyed the Aylsebury course. I ran 22 in the pouring rain. Thank heavens tomorrow is a rest day. I am going away for work to a place that has a pool so am taking my cossie in case I have time for a swim Smile. Can't see me doing any running Grin.

Blatherskite · 13/10/2013 16:41

My splits for yesterday are all over the place! I really was just running at her side as fast as she could manage Blush

Aylesbury was really good. Nice flat course and the team there are really friendly. Finished in 26.41 and 7th place! It was out of 9 runners admittedly but I'll never be that high at a parkrun ever again! I could probably have gone a little faster but didn't want to leave my friend behind on a new course. Beginning to wonder whether I could get to my goal of 25 minutes by my 50th parkrun after all... 25:59 would do! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 13/10/2013 18:28

We've been told our parkrun is a toughie so I'd like to so another to see what time I could get. My friend I run with is aiming for a 25 something park run but she's stuck Blatherskite. I can beat my on at the moment so I just enjoy the parkrun but she's much more competitive than me.

I did my long run today but ran out of time so it was only 8.7 miles :( must do 10+ next weekend.

Blatherskite · 13/10/2013 18:32

My usual one isn't a PB course either. The first 1k is all very slowly uphill and then there is a bloody great hill at just gone 2k. All the 'easy' bit comes when you're already tired.

My best time on a flat course is 26:01 which is depressingly close. Today's course was very flat too. I really, really want to do it on my home course though. I've only got 20 seconds to lose but it seems like a lot at the moment!

IsThatTrue · 15/10/2013 18:59

5.3 miles in 49 minutes. I could have carried on but had to pick DS up from beavers. There is some really nice countryside up there though so I'm hoping to run while he beavers more often. :)

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/10/2013 22:03

Wow, you are getting fast IsThat! Well done!

I had a little swim yesterday and I woke up in the night because my legs hurt in new places, and my arms were sore today Shock Grin. Doesn't bode well for the tri I'm thinking about doing next year.

Ran 6 and a bit tonight, need to do 5 tomorrow and 8 on Thursday. So much for tapering

Blatherskite · 15/10/2013 22:17

I did 6.7 miles in 1 hour 10. My knee is stiff again so I went with the slower group and took it easy. Have properly stretched tonight so I'm really hoping it's OK for my 5k tomorrow lunchtime

PepeLePew · 15/10/2013 23:09

I'm going to give my first ParkRun a go on Saturday, I think. Am really nervous - it's a hilly course and the times online look fast. I can do 5k in about 28.5 mins but not sure about throwing a steep incline into the mix. Plus I don't know anyone who will be running...but I'm determined to give it a go. What's the worst that can happen?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/10/2013 00:55

Go Pepe! What's the worst that can happen? That you oversleep and don't get to PR on Saturday Smile.

I didn't know anyone to start with, but now that I've been going a while I've made some nice friends to chat to. We moved here in March, so I didn't know anyone in the area. Volunteering also helped me meet people.

I couldn't go last week and I missed going.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/10/2013 00:56

Oh and don't worry about the fast runners - there are plenty of not so fast ones as well!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/10/2013 00:59

Blathers, hope that knee of yours holds up tomorrow. Sorry I haven't got round to asking DH about exercises, we have been ships passing in the night the last week, to the point that I have asked him for some time and attention tomorrow evening as I have a long list of boring things like boilers/plumbers and half term plans to nag talk to him about Smile.

Blatherskite · 16/10/2013 15:40

Go for it Pepe. The whole ethos of parkrun is that it is a social event and not a race so you should hopefully find that everyone is friendly and welcoming and it won't matter a bit how long you take. We have plenty of run/walk-ers at ours that take somewhere around an hour to finish, everyone welcomes them and cheers them on just as happily as they do the crazy fast guys who finish in 15 minutes. I've tail run plenty of times and happily followed the very slowest runner in giving encouragement all the way. 28 minutes isn't that far off my PB either so I'm sure you'll be a long way from the back!

Good luck with it.

I ran 3.5 miles again this lunchtime in the pouring rain. I was dripping when I got back to the car. My knee is definitely stiff again but I did the yoga post run stretching video I found on Youtube again and it feels a lot better now. I have a choice of 3 running clubs to go out with tomorrow night so just got to decide whether I fancy a technical session or another 10k.

Newrowsees · 16/10/2013 22:00

Hi parkrunners, I've missed you all! I haven't been running since I hurt my knee a few weeks ago (IT band problems). I've been taking it easy and doing some cross training, but am still nervous I might hurt it even more if I don't rest properly.

My goal of a sub-20 5k by Christmas has probably gone out of the window, but I really want to get back to it anyway. Especially since I've stocked up on winter running gear now, and want to wear it all. Glad everyone's keeping it up though, hoping to join you soon!

IsThatTrue · 17/10/2013 06:25

Welcome pepe try not to be nervous, parkrun is so inclusive! Last week I was running with 6yo ds1 and we ran most of the way next to a 78yr old great grandfather, it was great!

Good to see you back newrow sorry to hear of your injury. I not sure what I'd do if I had to stop running for a while. [confised] but you must do what's best for your health.

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 17/10/2013 07:44

Definitely go PepeLePew, our parkrun encourages everyone of all abilities and I'm sure all the others do too. It's about getting people together to enjoy running and support each other.

Sorry to hear about your knee Blatherskite, sounds like it's holding up reasonably well. Personally I dislike any kind of formal training but I know its good for my running so do it once a week, much happier running 10k :)

Good time isthattrue :)

No parkrun for me Saturday as I have a course :( been out Monday evening and this morning for 5 miles each and will hopefully do 10 Sunday. Do any of your use parkrun specifically for speed training or just to be part of parkrun?

IsThatTrue · 17/10/2013 19:06

cinamon I do 3 runs a week, 1 5ish k with ds2 in the buggy (great resistance training) 1 8-10k alone, sometimes with hills/intervals shoved in. And parkrun which is my fast 5k.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 17/10/2013 23:48

Humph. I just wrote a long post to cinnamon and it has disappeared. Probably just as well Smile, as it was ramblings about why I heart parkrun and parkrunners Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 17/10/2013 23:49

nice to see you! New gear is always good. Hope the IT Band improves.
