Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

Well done on your 10k ohone

I've got DS park running with me this weekend so not fast.

I did do a buggy run at 10min/miles this morning which is great. DH is gone tomo so I'm going to head out and do some intervals in the morning before toddlers. I can't do intervals with the buggy, poor DS gets wobbled around a lot during a sprint. Grin

I managed to fit a 10k into my 30/30 last night which I was pleased with. I really didn't want to go out so getting started was very hard.

I should be doing intervals on a track tonight but I'm ditching to do a social 5k with a friend instead. My knee is so much better but it was track that properly killed it last time so I want to give it a bit longer before I put it through that again. The physio said the muscles were very tight around my knee so massaged to make them softer which was great, only now I feel like me knee is too loose! It's probably because I'm so used to running on it when tight but I'm trying to build up the muscles before I really push it again.

I have 3 10ks coming up in the next month or so and I'm determined to do at least 1 of then in under 55 minutes so I need my knee to work!

Any suggestions on good exercises to strengthen it?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/10/2013 12:08

Blathers I will ask DH for you - he is recovering from knee surgery.

He seems to be doing lots of leg raises and bends (sitting on sofa/flat on floor), and has just started gentle circuit training in a group physio session. And got back on his bike - cycling to the station every day, and doing longer rides at weekends. Quite a lot of his recovery has been targeted at repairing the muscle wastage in his upper leg - as a result of post-op complications he was on crutches from mid-May until mid-August, so his upper body and good leg are pretty strong, but the bad leg was like a matchstick when he started walking again.

I'm sure you will easily get under 55 for a 10K - I was aiming for an hour with mine, and know I would/could have done it on a decent path/straighter route. I just wasn't prepared to risk turning an ankle 4 weeks before the big one.

Blatherskite · 09/10/2013 12:20

My PB is 26:45 but that was without anything being sore and at about half a stone lighter. Going to need to push it to get the same this time I think.

Blatherskite · 09/10/2013 13:35

Not 26! 56!! Jeeze, I'm not an olympian in hiding!!

IsThatTrue · 09/10/2013 18:40

I was slightly Hmm about your 26 min 10k but I got caught up sorting ds2 out and forgot to question it. Grin

I get to run earlier tomo as DH is going to do the school run so I won't have to shower and dress in 10 min flat to get to toddlers. :) it's amazing what makes me happy nowadays!

Oooooh can I join you all? I've never seen this thread before. Regular park runner - currently training for the Birmingham Half Marathon. Fastest 10k is 53 and did 11 miles in 1hr 35 today. Problem is that I peak at 8 miles as I don't regularly run that distance and my ankles and joints are killing now. I would love to do within 2 hours but I'm not sure I will. Anyway Helloooo :)

IsThatTrue · 09/10/2013 20:47

Welcome flossie as we are the parkrun family you know, all are welcome.

Good luck for your half marathon! I did my first 10k race last month and that's plenty far enough for me! There are a few on here into marathon distances though :)

Hi Flossie

I joined another running club tonight bringing my total up to 3! I'm a sucker for the free shirts Wink

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/10/2013 21:19

Welcome Flossie!

Blathers, I thought that you meant your 5K PB was 26, so you could do a 10K in 55 Grin.

Blatherskite · 09/10/2013 21:45

Funnily enough, my 5k PB is 26.01 Grin

IsThatTrue · 09/10/2013 21:46

blathers I can't wait until ds2 is a little older and doesn't need me so much in the evenings so I can join a running club. Although or sure I'm fast enough for a club really.

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 09/10/2013 21:58

I think most clubs do beginners couch to 5k sessions so there will always be someone slower than you there. You'd be fine.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2013 14:31

Hi Flossiechops, I'm pretty new here too :) if you can do 11 miles in 1hr 35 you'll easily manage a sub 2hr half. My longest run so far is 11 miles and the took 1 hr 50 but was quite chatty with my friend. Can you fit a 10+ mile run in once a week until your half? My first 10mile run my hips really hurt but since then I've been fine!

My club tends to be a bit gentler on a Monday and harder I a weds but it's all at your own pace. Last nights training was 3 laps at 10k pace, 2 at 5k and 1 at as fat as you can with 1 lap recovery between repeated twice. I was the slowest but did the same training as everyone else there just got lapped a couple of times :)

cinnamongreyhound · 10/10/2013 14:32

Really should read before I post! Not fat but fast clearly :)

IsThatTrue · 10/10/2013 15:27

I did some intervals this morning. 3 miles (so all but 5k) in 27.07. Not bad. My recovery is definitely getting better. :)

Well done IsThat

That sounds like hard work cinnamon

5 miles for me this morning, day off tomorrow Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/10/2013 19:43

Apparently ALDI have loads of winter running gear on sale this weekend. I am going to see if I can replace my reflective jacket - I've been feeling a bit vulnerable on my bike in the evenings.

To add to our jacket woes, DH left his North Face winter coat on the train on Weds Shock.

Standingonlego · 12/10/2013 08:15

Morning all! I have been quiet for a while but lurking to see how everyone is getting on - fantastic times recently for all.

Weather is disgusting this morning, wet windy and cold. Not run in 6 weeks but considering getting my butt over to parkrun if I can find my winter legs!!!

Enjoy :)

cinnamongreyhound · 12/10/2013 11:17

We had several parkrunners in Aldi stuff this morning. My plans were scuppered today, planned to go to a different parkrun with the family and then on to cinema but the £1 Saturday morning films were full when I went to book last night and I didn't want to drive the 20miles just for parkrun so went to my local one with both dogs. Did really well, considering they've never run being attached so close together before and only stopped once for a wee and dragged them away from saying hello to two sets of dogs. Think we terrified some people at the start!

IsThatTrue · 12/10/2013 12:59

Well DS1 (6) and I 'ran' today. He's not coming back for at least a month I practically had to drag him round and he moaned the whole time. I love spending 1-1 time with him but its so hard when he's whinging! He got a time of 38.19 so a whole minute slower than his first run.

I felt like I'd barely run at all and am now pretty grumpy Hmm

We have a local sponsored 5k walk to do tonight, in our pjs! Me, dd (8), ds1 (6) and ds2 (10mo, in the buggy). It should be cool and thanks to some lovely friends of ds1 (it was his idea) we've raised nearly £100!

Well done all runners and volunteers for today's effort!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/10/2013 14:31

IsThat - I am still Envy that you got to run, even if it was a bit slow Smile

I have done lot of errands on my bike this morning, including a trip to Aldi for a new jacket, so feel as though I've had a bit of a workout. It's a lovely day here so I'm planning to nip out for a run later. I'm home alone this weekend so my time is my own Grin.

Well done cinnamon and pooches! I was running ahead of some dog owners a couple of months ago and we all burst out laughing when one of them said "no, heel me, not him". We looked behind and it was like something out of 101 Dalmations they were all so tangled up Smile.

Flossiechops · 12/10/2013 15:13

Thanks for the warm welcome cinnamon the race is a week tomorrow. Have done 12 this morning but slower. No more long runs now due to aching joints. Quite nervous/excited I know the Brummie crowd will be encouraging so I'm hoping it will motivate me.
I didn't realise Parkrun was an organised event have checked online and there's not one local to me - bummer! Hope you all don't mind me posting as a regular runner Smile

Iggity · 12/10/2013 15:25

Only a quickie as haven't even had time to read thread. Well stayed dry for us this morning. However a minute before we were about to start, two huge lorries came thundering towards 400 of us. There was a bit of a standoff! They are filming Cinderella in the forest park so I suspect the organisers will be having strong words with Mr Brannagh et al! No sign of Cate Blanchett however. Was thinking she might join us one day.

Well lost a bit of my va va voom from last week. I suspect the lack of porridge may have contributed. I made DS his Ready Brek and then went to make my porridge and if you have ever tried to make porridge with sour milk, it looks bad. So that went in bin and DS's was whisked from under him mid-spoon!

Time was 29.25 which to be fair is probably about my 4th best time this year but having touched the 28s last week, I feel a bit disappointed. DH is now making use of himself and was training to process the results today so I knew my result pretty quickly.

I haven't done much running this week so probably explains my lack of energy so need to shift my bum this week. Great South Run in two weeks and not done much to prepare.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/10/2013 15:46

That's impressive IsThatTrue it took ds1, also 6, and I did it together it took almost 50 mins! There is a 6 year old at our park run who does it in around 31-32 mins every week Shock
