I mean for everyone including those who have graduated from the C25K. Do we have one?

Im coming up to my one year anniversary of running now. I have started to do Parkruns as they have now started up near me. I have just come back from a 10K too and am currently feeling the post run euphoria. I would like to tell people about it, but DH isn't that interested (just like Im not interested in his hobbies)

So do we have a thread already which I cant find? Or can this be it?

Well done CooEee 10 miles on a week day well done. I got out tonight, I have jibbed out twice this week so made myself go. I did a bit of interval work and DH was home early enough so I started in the lightGrin.

I must download some new music I have been listening to the same playlist for weeks now.

Pleaseputyourshoeson · 29/03/2013 08:53

Cooed well done on the 10 miles - I am working up to that accomplishment - some way to go yet! I have swum twice, run 6k and a cross training session since Monday and am hoping to fit in a long slow run (that's 10-11k not 10 miles !) on the weekend.
Question - do any of you run with a garmin fore runner or app as I want to use a half marathon training programme to help me train but I don't know how to suss pace/distance out etc. I use mapmyrun on my phone but it measures in km not miles and gives me my pace distance at odd intervals. Is it worth getting a garmin and if so which one? And heart rate monitor - useful or not?

CooEeeEldridge · 29/03/2013 15:11

Thanks both! In actually not aching today which is good news! I use the free run keeper app on my iPhone, I find it v good, I have it set to tell me my average speed and the time on every mile, bit gutting when you slow down though. It also tells you how many calories you burn- I burned a whopping 1195 apparently yesterday- I made up for it in cheese though!

LillethTheCat · 29/03/2013 16:49

Well done on 10 miles Coo and 1195 calories. Envy about the iphone and app to tell you how many calories you've burned. I have to go by 1 mile = 100 calories, but I know that may be wrong and its only a rough guess.

I want a garmin or something as I would like to know that sort of thing, but Im afraid if I get something like that it will just be a waste of money.

Does anyone run on an empty stomach? Im trying to lose weight by keeping my calories down. One way I am doing this is holding breakfast off and just having a snack at 10 (which I would be having even if I had breakfast). The problem is I am planning to do Parkrun tomorrow and I dont really want to eat before hand. Up until recently I thought that it was essential to have breakfast every day, but after reading a thread on here and looking at various dieting threads Im not convinced by that arguments any more. So I have been just having a drink first thing. Will it be hard if I did Parkrun with no breakfast?

Oh how fab. Hello all. Lovely to see a running thread back in Active Convos. There used to be some long threads back in the day, any of the oldies around still?

I use Endomondo on my HTC phone to track my runs. It's nice and basic, doesn't take up much memory but will call out your mile/km times depending on your settings and records your PBs.

My first run in 12 days today because of the weather. Short, but really enjoyed it. Smile

Hedgepig · 29/03/2013 18:08

I have both Pleaseput GrinGrin I love a gadget . I use run keeper on my phone and use it for intervals and my phone has my music on. My Garmin is the most basic one so I cant set it up to measure interval times but it is good to look at as you run for pace . DH bought it for me last year before I really stated to try and improve my speeds etc if I was getting it now I would have gone for one more features. Why not give try runkeeper a try as its free but seems to have lots of features and can do km or miles and if you still want more look at garmins. I do find the phone strapped to my arm a bit heavy so a watch has an advantage there .

LillethTheCat · 29/03/2013 18:10

I can't have runkeeper as I don't have a device that will support it Sad

omletta · 29/03/2013 18:14

I should have run today - but have a bad, bad hangover...

Did 10k Monday morning and 10 Wednesday morning, was planning to do the treble, never mind there is always tomorrow.

I sometimes run on an empty stomac because I go so early, but eating first definitely makes it easier. I've started having some of those breakfast biscuits in the car with a cup of tea - about 50 calories each I think.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 29/03/2013 20:31

I have a garmin forerunner 610! I love it, very pricey though!

It's touch screen and really easy to use, doesn't seem t make me much faster though unfortunatelyGrin

I missed a run today, full of cold and feeling ropey. Hopefully I might get out tommorrow or Sunday.

I always eat before I run, marmite bagel. Anything else affects my digestion, which appears to be annoyingly sensitive! An extra coffee before Thursdays run lead to terrible post run cramps and stuff.....

Hedgepig · 29/03/2013 20:53

Ahhh I had the same sensitive stomach issue the other day DoYou, been ok since thank heavens. I think you have to eat something in the morning and I do find after running I dont want to eat much anyway.

I have a new challenge in the morning I'm at my parents for Easter and need to find a 10k route for tomorrow but I've never run over here before do i'll just have to follow my nose. Grin

Pleaseputyourshoeson · 30/03/2013 07:13

I am lusting over the 610 but I think I'll try run keeper first. My issue with the phone is also that I find it hard to see and fiddle with on my arm but it's free :-)
No exercise yesterday, but a .... BBQ - yes in this weather! Out today so two days off but a good run planned for tomorrow and a swim Monday. I often run on an empty stomach or else eat a good two hours before. I don't find either makes any difference. Making sure I've peed and peed though is vital as I can't stand needing the loo when out running.
Happy Easter all, let's melt off those eggs! Good luck Hedge with the novel run! Don't get lost in a hedge :-)

Pleaseputyourshoeson · 30/03/2013 07:20

Meant to send a friendly wave to damesaggarmaker!

DameSaggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/03/2013 08:50

Just off for another short one this morning. I'm off work for two weeks now and hopeful of improving my dire 5k time. I'm way past my prime though I think.

I run on empty pretty much too - a cup of tea and a banana or a slice of fruit bread. If I eat too much I may find I have to 'do a Paula'.

LillethTheCat · 30/03/2013 10:52

Just come back from Parkrun and another PB. Everytime I run I just get quicker and quicker with it. First time I have gone without breakfast and TBH I dont think it made much difference. Yes I got a PB, but I have been getting PBs everytime so Im getting quicker anyway. Im thinking about aiming for under 25 mins by the end of summer. I got under 28 today for the first time and its my 6th time so Im hoping under 25 is acheivable. Problem is if I keep getting quicker and quicker, one day I wont. Im also aiming to get a 10K time under an hour too.

Going out for 5 miles tomorrow.

Lilleth I love a park run mine local one is all off road on a National Trust property. I can only go if DS1 has Home football match as I need to get back to look after DS2. They seem to have had away matches for the last 2 months . There will be less footie in the summer. Well done on improving your speed do much. Have you been doing anything specific or just running lots?

My run did not happen as I forgot my sports bra arggggg. I was really looking forward to it, but I have such stupidly sized comedy norks I can not run in a normal bra .

Please put once you start it off if you have a headphone you don't need to faff about with runkeeper again as the runkeeper lady shouts out your pace etc at you every mile.

DameSaggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/03/2013 16:49

Well done on the PB Lilleth, it's some years since I managed a sub 30 5k. I registered again for my local park run a few months ago having done it quite a few times when it first started. I really must drag my sorry ass out of bed and go do it one day.

Shame about the non-run hedgepig.

Pleaseputyourshoeson · 31/03/2013 09:05

Off to try out runkeeper :-)
Happy Easter. What a lovely sunny day, even if it's a bit arctic!

LillethTheCat · 31/03/2013 16:08

Really enjoyed my 5 and half mile run this afternoon. Nearly didn't go out. Mr Lilleth was tempting me with cake, but I went and really enjoyed it. came back and ate cake

I wasn't planning on doing anything tomorrow, but I might be tempted to get myself out for a walk if the weather stays nice. Might as well make the most of it before it rains (or even snows again)

Hi all! I've upped my distance but at the same time, I have been doing more off road. Sadly, my knees aren't liking it! So...do I reduce mileage or drop off road for awhile or do both? My brain has told me to cut a mile and keep terrain flat but knees still feel dodgy doing that. Or I could get new runners? Sigh!

DameSaggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/04/2013 15:10

allbie - my knee is complaining a bit this week and it's definitely because I need new runners. These feel like I'm running in my slippers - comfy on the one hand but on the other no spring whatsoever.

Pleaseputyourshoeson · 01/04/2013 19:00

I have eaten a lindt bunny, eaten a hamburger and cheese on toast today and coconut ice. Man do I feel fat. Too much food this weekend. No running today either. Yesterday's run felt like running with porridge lead legs. Here's hoping for a turnaround tomorrow. I need a good run and a calorie light day! Allbie, my twopenniesworth instinct is to keep the terrain and reduce the mileage quite a bit for a week to recover. Maybe throw in pliometric squats and stuff to strengthen your muscles instead of running as far? I'm am just a complete amateur though.

allbie · 01/04/2013 21:17

Thanks PLEASE and DAME...my runners are fairly new really with gel pads too so I reckon it's the mileage. I may finish the week on the treadmill to recuperate. What do we think of gel pads? I was advised to put them in...wondering if it was just a sales ploy?

Hedgepig · 01/04/2013 21:30

Allbie what on earth is a gel pad? Do you have another pair of shoes you could wear for a couple of week?

I am knackered 10k this morning plus my class this evening, I need wine I'm sure.

Pleaseputyourshoeson · 01/04/2013 21:52

Bloody hell Hedgepig you are caning it on the exercise front! Impressive! I have just dived into a jar of pickles in the hope of staving off my brains obsessions with the tube of mini eggs. I need to go back to work and back to early morning exercise pronto. This weekend has been abismal for eating too much!
Gel pad? No idea sounds a bit iffy to me. I am going to try the half marathon training plan on runkeeper - (yes it's because of the appeal of starting back at a couple of miles Grin and building up slowly Grin. I was horrified how slow it said my pace was on sunday. And geewhizz does a mile feel so much longer than a kilometer. I was running along willing that over calm lady's voice to tell me another mile had gone by and got very despondent at times when it just didn't happen! However there was a very gutting moment when i realised I'd hit 'pause' to stretch and forgot to press 'resume' Shock. I'm never sure whether to count the warm up bit of a run into my mileage for the day or not or the time. Because I cannot run with out doing a five minute jog and stretch bit first. What say you? Omg I have got to go upstairs to bed because otherwise the mini eggs will win.

DameSaggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/04/2013 22:07

I have gel pads in my shoes; I popped them in to avoid buying new shoes as a am was broke. All the gel in the world isn't helping now.

Please - I do a walking/slow jog warm up. I start my app after the walk but before the jog. Though my whole run is more of a jog if truth be told.
