I mean for everyone including those who have graduated from the C25K. Do we have one?

Im coming up to my one year anniversary of running now. I have started to do Parkruns as they have now started up near me. I have just come back from a 10K too and am currently feeling the post run euphoria. I would like to tell people about it, but DH isn't that interested (just like Im not interested in his hobbies)

So do we have a thread already which I cant find? Or can this be it?

Did the park run. Had driving snow and slushy ground and a few cm of snow in places. Was good to finish it Grin. I know it was slower than my last park run but really don't care Grin

Well done with doing the Parkruns chaos and Miranda My Parkrun FB page said that they had escaped the snow and would still be able to go ahead with it. Unfortunately for me the snow by my house is far too deep and there was no way I was driving in it. Hoping to get back to running properly next week after slowing down during the bad weather, but it depends if it gets any better. I am going to be Parkrun on sat morning, long run on my own on Sundays afternoons and go to my running club on Tues and Thurs evenings. Just waiting for the snow to go now so I can get on with it.

Argh! I'm dithering today, had planned a 10 mile route off road but all local news is saying dont go out, I'm all fired up for it though!!! I'm thinking I should be sensible and postpone till tomorrow, but that means no rest day after. STUPID WEATHER!!!

Pleaseputyourshoeson · 23/03/2013 12:08

I did it! I did it! First 10k done in freezing sleety muddy hideousness. Just over an hour. Coughing my head off now but it's done. And what a relief it's done!

Yey well done Please will you be looking when you can next do a 10K then?

Think of that post run feeling Coo if you do go out. You will be so pleased you did it. If its possible, go for it.

Well done please! My first 10k run is iminently looming, and I'm rather looking forward to it, I like loosing myself in the running, which happens once I'm through the first ten minutes usually!

Well done please! I bottled it Sad Angry Had planned rest day tomorrow anyway so have just switched them round, hopefully most of it will be gone here by then!

Well done please! Great news. I too bottled it today - had a 10k planned, but decided it was too snowy - went the gym and seem to have committed to an 8mile (13k?) tomorrow.

Blimey Omletta 8 miles, I am now committed to my sofa :-) . I'm glad to have done it. It's put some mental demons to bed. I have to say I really did feel spent at the end. I felt like I couldn't breathe any harder or run any faster. Totally used up all I had. It was good. And the hot shower after it was the best thing EVER. I used up all the hot water. It was bliss. Now eating a huge bowl of steaming soup with a great hunk of rye bread and feeling very happy to have beaten the elements and very glad I didn't quiche out.

Well done Please, it must have been very tempting to stay on the sofa I know I would have done

No snow down here so no excuses for avoiding my long run tommorrow! I'm planning 12 miles or so, maybe off road if its not too soggyHmm

Well done Please.

I went out too I thought the snow was easing so I went for it , ended up for be last mile and a half with snow diving in my face Hmm. I wear specs so there was snow on them and they were steaming up as I breathed out. I'm seriously thinking of eye lasering so I can actually see where I'm running.

I ran, the coldest and most unpleasant run I've had this winter, and it's meant to be springConfused Running uphill into a strong north easterly wind, it was horrid! I planned an out and back but quit three quarters of a mile early as it was so tough running up hill into the wind so I made it up by looping around on the flat. 12 miles done and dusted.

I'm glad it's over, it was really tough and if all runs were like that I wouldn't be a runner tbh. Thankfully they aren't, mostly I love it but today was just too cold and windy, and I felt all out of sorts before I started.

Hedgepig · 24/03/2013 13:52

It's just horrid isn't it DoYouThink, I've been running all winter mostly in the dark but it seems worse now because it should be getting warmer grrrr I had in my mind by March I would have packed my winter tights away go him

Ds1 and I are supposed to be going a 3k "fun" run this morning but they had to cancel it, it was the right decision as it was mostly aimed a DCs and they would have frozen out there this morning .

Is it really bad that when I look at the forecast and see snow, snow and more snow I just want to cry that its not getting any nicer for running in? Blush Im just going to have to grin and bear it haven't I and go out in it. Ive been putting it off saying I will run properly (ie 3 or 4 times a week) once the weather picks up always assuming its going to pick up soon and it just isnt

Tuesday I will get to my running club and start from there. (as long as the roads are ok for me to get there of course)

What's your club like Lilleth? I'm toying with trying my local one but I have an organised exercise phobia from being the most unsporty girl in school!! I can not cope with people shouting at me, I know it's meant to be encouraging but it just makes me want to hit the shouter Grin

Hedgepig, i'm with you on that, or at least I was. I was the worst at school. And I thought exercising with people would be way too humiliating. But actually when I do circuit training outside in the week the camaraderie pushes me much harder than I would do on my own. Well done Doyouthinktheysaurus for going out in such hideous conditions and you too Hedgepig (great name!). I've been wheezy and chesty since yesterdays arctic experience and my hips (top of femur bursar area) are a wee bit stiff but otherwise ok. Felt great having a sofa day without so much as a venture outside other than to get the paper or feed the animals! Here's hoping for a good week. With holidays coming up it's going to be the challenge to keep getting out for a run when kids are at home. Plan of action is to make them scooter whilst I run...will see how that pans out!

Ooh there's no shouting, people go with everyone elses pace. Mine is very friendly and often have beginner groups where they start off at a mile and build up slowly. Its what has really kept me going.

Just seen that its possible Easter weekend is going to be the same as this weekend with heavy snow. Ive had enough now Sad

I've truly had enough of winter tooSad Easter will be miserable if it stays so cold! We are the lucky ones too, we don't have snow!

Hope you feel better Please.

I should be putting away my thermal running gear and getting out my short sleeves and short tights! This morning I was freezing in thermal stuff and extra layers. I came home and had hot chocolate for my post run drinkGrin

Running in the school holidays is always a struggle! I'm not always successful, I must admitBlush

I agree this winter is dragging on but actually I do like running in the cold.

I don't like getting hot and sticky and am not good in the heat. I run much faster when I'm cold and trying to get warmed up and once I'm warm it feels comfortable.

I would hate to race on a hot summer's day.

Having said that for the DC's sake I wish it was spring.

I really enjoy running, love chatting with my friends on the way round and its a good way of exercising the dogs! Before my dc I ran the GNR twice and the New Forest half, after my first baby I decided the best way to shift the weight was to run a marathon, i completed the Paris marathon in 2010 without walking or stopping and I will most definitely not be doing another one! Since baby two I now stick to little runs (anything up to 6 miles ish)and one or both my children join me in the buggy all dependant on how fit I am feeling and which foolish friend has offered to help me push!

Gah, really struggling in this cold weather. It's aggravating my lungs so I'm struggling with asthma any time I push myself out in the cold. My chest is sore, feels like an unstretchy balloon inside that is being pulled. Blooming annoying. I ran today at a slow steady pace and was ok but the minute I was in the car and warming back up I just started to cough and cough. I really hope we get some warmer temperatures soon! I think I'm going to have to exchange some runs for swimming until it warms up but I don't get nearly as much pleasure from ploughing up and down a pool - there's nothing to look at!

That's not good Please. I don't suffer from asthma but I still get a bit of coughing when I come in from a cold run, worse if I'm recovering from a cold and it's horrid. You have my sympathies.

I'm sure you already do, but make sure you do a decent warm up at a very easy pace, I find that helps because I always start with a tightness in my chest when it's cold and if I push the pace too soon pushing the pace is still pretty slow for me though I look and feel like I might pass outGrin

I missed yesterday's run because I was between night shifts and work was stupidly busy, I couldn't get of bedGrin I've done it today instead, it's not any warmer but it is less windy!

Pleaseput that does not sound good it's not worth going out if you are likely to have an them attack. I must get warmer soon says she hopefully

I'm back on track! Did 10 miles today, tough at the end though. Also still a lot of snow and ice on tracks- I was doubly in awe of the ladies up thread who went out in it at the weekend! Wind was brutal though. This thread is really keeping me positive too, when it got tough I imagined posting here (loser!) and how good I'd feel to keep me going- it worked, so thanks!!!
