Anyone want to join me in a get a bit fitter support thread for the seriously unfit?

When I say seriously unfit,I mean I am one of those people who I dont think has ever got the whole way through a warm up routine on a DVD.

So I am not expecting miracles, but would like it if anyone were to join me to help me and perhaps themselves to start getting a little bit fitter, even if it is only for 1 month.

Personally I am in the process of digging out old DVDs/videos,and about to stick one on,and see what I can cannot do.

Cold is much better thanks
Well done typing for losing the 2.2 pounds

I tried sit ups today
Embarrased to say I actually dont think I have ever done any before today.
Its like much of the whole fitness world has somehow managed to passed me by up to now.

The sit ups went badly.Dont think you could hardly call them sit ups actually.I could barely get myself off the floor.
I knew there was a big part of me fitness wise that was missing.Think I have just discovered it.The website said they use your core? muscles.I couldnt really find or feel them tbh, never mind use them.

amillion as far as I can tell its just a fancy way of saying stomach muscles. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Well done for going for it though.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow whyme2.

I've just spent the last 2 1/2hrs at the top of a wobbly stepladder scraping wallpaper. That had to do my core some good.

Typinginsecret · 12/09/2012 14:41

Fingers crossed for tomorrow Whyme

Million - look up Pilates on google or YouTube - the basic principle with Pilates is using your core muscles.
Yes they are tummy muscles but also include your pelvic floor etc.
If your core is good then it's meant to help with your posture, and keeping a strong back etc.

TheOneWithTheHair · 13/09/2012 14:13

Have you heard yet whyme2?

How are you all getting on today?

Well aqua aerobics was fab. I think classes are definitely the way to go for me. I've booked in again on Monday and also a body pump class that's on before it. I hope I survive! Shock

whyme2 · 13/09/2012 15:46

Noooo I have not heard yet and I am a bundle of jumpiness. They were absolutely clear that they would phone today.

But I have done a nice long walk today and I had to run to school as I was late due to phone watching which is good.

whyme2 · 13/09/2012 17:41

amillionyears · 14/09/2012 08:54

trying some more sit ups,
press ups,tried yesterday,couldnt do any
and planks which my daughters were showing me

Typing,I predict plenty of exercise for you today!

OP posts:
Typinginsecret · 14/09/2012 09:11

What are planks?

TheOneWithTheHair · 14/09/2012 09:31

Planks. You adopt the press up position but on your elbows not your hands and you hold it for as long as possible. The trick is to not let your bottom sag or create an arch but to be perfectly straight from heel to shoulder.

I've done the school run and again later. That's it for me today because I was working last night and got in about 5.30 this morning. I am going back to bed now. :)

dontpetthesweatythings · 14/09/2012 11:28

congratulations on the job ! Well done!

Planks are so friggin hard!

amillionyears · 15/09/2012 17:38

I did 2 yesterday sort of.

Then I did 2 situps, but putting my arms out straight, instead of behind my ears. They nearly killed me! I was in discomfort and a bit of pain for 3 hours.
Not doing any exercise today.
Will try them again tomorrow.

Hello. Waiting for dusk to take the first little joggy step as part of my evening walk. If I manage a couple of bursts of 30 seconds I will be chuffed. I am hoping that I can surgically remove the sofa before I set off.

I will watch Arthur first.

Any attempt at situps and planks may have to wait til tomorrow. Smile

whyme2 · 15/09/2012 19:27

well today we took the children on a 6 mile walk following the footpaths and then had a picnic lunch and came home by bus. It was a lovely walk and my legs are aching. I really enjoyed it though!

Still in shock about the job. I might try the plank thing next week, when I am alone and free from embarrassment

amillionyears · 15/09/2012 20:26

Welcome gracehanadarko,Hope you enjoy your walk and joggy step.

whyme2,you sound like you had a lovely day. When do you start your new job?

OP posts:
TheOneWithTheHair · 15/09/2012 20:29

Well done everyone. I've been a bit slack today and probably will be tomorrow but two classes on Monday should hopefully do me some good.

Oh I did walk for an hour last night. :)

gracehanadarko · 15/09/2012 21:03

Thank you amilli. The walk was lovely. I may have to repeat week 1 about eleventytwelvety times because the jog bit wasn't great. But I've started and it will never be worse than today hopefully.

I can see a very flat plank being the position de jour for most of Sunday.

Feeling sorry for myself.Ache in all sorts of places.Hit my 2 week down or whatever.Feel like the top half of my body isnt quite sitting right on the bottom half of my body.Actually feel like my body isnt quite mine.Feels weird. Is this really how I'm supposed to feel after 2 weeks? And then 1 of my DDs said she hasnt seen me do much exercise.

OP posts:
gracehanadarko · 16/09/2012 13:34

Sorry you have been feeling sore today amilli. Is today a 'rest day' for you? I have a walk planned for today and would quite like to try a sit up.

I would quite like the family pack of milky ways too but something aroom said on the other thread about losing weight in the kitchen is rattling round my head. They are now in the bottom of the chest freezer covered by the rest of the contents. If I succumb later to the urge it will mean breaking my teeth.

No-one has seem me try to exercise since I had to for my job many, many moons ago. Darkness will be my friend in that respect.

Are you feeling any better? Smile

amillionyears · 16/09/2012 13:39

Not feeling so sorry for myself!Still ache.Yes,will rest today.
Good plan putting them in the freezer, wouldnt have thought have that.
I presume you are going to have your walk in daytime?

OP posts:
gracehanadarko · 16/09/2012 13:54

Oh yes - walking is fine in the daytime. There are lots of people about so I can blend in a bit.

I love to walk but I am a little bit slow. I hope to change that.
