Anyone want to join me in a get a bit fitter support thread for the seriously unfit?

When I say seriously unfit,I mean I am one of those people who I dont think has ever got the whole way through a warm up routine on a DVD.

So I am not expecting miracles, but would like it if anyone were to join me to help me and perhaps themselves to start getting a little bit fitter, even if it is only for 1 month.

Personally I am in the process of digging out old DVDs/videos,and about to stick one on,and see what I can cannot do.

Welcome to TheOneWithTheHair, and to DisabilEightiesChick.

Muddling through is fine.
I am beginning to realise that we may all need varying degrees of "kicking up the bum".
Me,only light, and occasionally.I am the sort of person, that if someone kicked me too hard,I would run away and not come back!
Also realised that I am probably a 3 times a week exercise girl.We shall see.

Chick,I personally dont know about Youtube.
I started with the exercise dvds i had at home, because I personally didnt then have any reason not to get on and start .I have been building up to this for a few weeks, and I kinda knew that I was emotionally ready and needed to get on and do it.

Thanksamillionyears. I know what you mean about being emotionally ready. I think this is the first time in my life I've been ready to lose weight and get fit.

I can't wait to have more energy and feel better about myself. I can't help thinking it will make me more enthusiastic about life in general if I feel better about myself.

GlassofRose · 04/09/2012 10:13

Hello Ladies!

I think I need to join you! I'm not seriously unfit, just seriously out of routine! Last year I was running 6 days a week and now I'm lucky if I can muster up the willpower for once. Finding it particularly hard because the other half is being a couch potato (his job is in fitness so he can relax at home).

amillionyears · 04/09/2012 10:45

Hi GlassofRose, and welcome to you too.
I know I started it by saying for the seriously unfit, but I realise that I know virtually nothing about fitness,so advice and support from those that do,is helpful and useful.
Can understand why looking at a man on the sofa is demotivating.
I am married to a man who does much manual work during the day,and has no intention of doing fitness with me in the evenings.
Lets hope we can help you get your willpower back.

Welcome to all the newbies!!
If you have sky plus you can record some workouts off the fitness channel if you are unable to find anything on YouTube .

Just been for my walk - really enjoyed it today - somedays I hate it!!

The main theme of the book - run fat bitch run, is that your find your inner bitch and turn it on yourself - but in a lighthearted way - so you keep saying to yourself " come on you fat bitch" well Iam finding its working - kept me going last night at the pool and this morning !

Not to everyone's taste I know.
What have we all got planned for today?

amillionyears · 04/09/2012 11:56

I have got my kids travelling around today, and one of them is ill,so no exercise from me today, apart from some stretches.

dontpetthesweatythings · 04/09/2012 12:32

Liking the sound of this run bitch run book!!
I think regarding working through the pain, not real pain, just the whole ache thingyou get with exercise. Ache is OK. Pain obviously isn't!

Amillionyears - can you do a couple of bosy weight resistance exercises at home as well as stretches? Things like a couple of push ups (even leaning against the wall 'push ups') a few squats and lunches to stregthen your body? People often forget these types of exercises and throw themselves in to Cardio but you can really inprove fitness strength and edurance just by doinga few of these home for 5 minutes a day. :)

dontpetthesweatythings · 04/09/2012 12:35

..and hello newbies! Theonewiththehair - glad youare feeling like you can get in to health and fitness finally. Feels good making that choice and being ready doesn't it?

I'm not a fitness master or nutritional guru but I have lost 3 stones 8 year ago and kept them off, and then in the last few years have managed to get myself in to exercise and fitness, so I hope I can lend hints tips and dish out a few arse kicks if required ;) (am willing to also receive said arse kicking when my motivation flags)

Typinginsecret · 04/09/2012 15:13

I need all the arse kicking I can get!!!

TheOneWithTheHair · 04/09/2012 17:51

Thanks dontpetthesweatythings. I am actually looking forward to it.

I've made the first step and have booked myself into an aqua aerobics class on Thursday morning. I tried a bit on holiday and was surprised how much work it was.

I also begin the school run tomorrow and I've surprised myself by really missing that walk in the morning and afternoon. I am absolutely determined not to waste the opportunity to exercise now my last dc has started nursery!

GlassofRose · 04/09/2012 19:50

I see Run fat Bitch run in WHSmiths once! I picked it up giggled at the title and put it back. Perhaps I should waddle back and see if it's still available Grin

I've just discovered pinterest... it's like an internet pinboard and I've been pinning all sorts of exercises on there so I can do them when I have spare time.

Also found two good youtube channels.

whyme2 · 05/09/2012 06:52

I am still with you - waiting for last dc to go to school tomorrow and then I am a free woman! Today I am going to check my bike so I am ready for tomorrow and then spend the day with my last cherub before she starts school. Might go and feed the ducks which will be a nice walk for us.

amillionyears · 05/09/2012 19:16

Managed 2 squats and 2 lunches lurches.Never done them before.Very long way to go on them.My upper legs I especially want fitter,as I twisted both knees a couple of years ago,and although I had pyshio at the time, they have never been right since. Also can barely run because of it.

TheOneWithTheHair · 05/09/2012 20:42

Well after booking into aqua aerobics I discovered that ds2 doesn't start nursery til Tuesday so I've had to rebook for next week. :(

It was good to walk to school and back twice today though.

Well done amillionyears you've made a start! :)

GlassofRose · 06/09/2012 09:58

amillionyears

Lunges & squats are amazing as you can do them anywhere! I use to do them whenever I got a spare minute. They tone up your thigh muscles and bum ever so fast.

Really enjoying Blogilates inner thigh challenge
and
The Mighty squat challenge

I'm trying to find the courage to do one of my very dusty Jillian Michaels dvds

dontpetthesweatythings · 06/09/2012 15:34

uh no exercise for me I have tonsilitis!

Anyhoooo....aqua aerobics - if done properly - if amazing. Really work hard and it's a proper calories burner and toner-upper. Well done for booking the class!

GlassofRose is right - they are brilliant amillionyears . Just get going with a few and increase the number by two more each time you do it. You will find it gets easier I promise.

Whyme2 have you checked your bike yet?

I am meant to go for another 5km sweat-fest run saturday with Sergeant-Major DP but not sure I will feel well enough :/

TheOneWithTheHair · 06/09/2012 17:39

dontpetthesweatythings :( tonsillitis is awful.

I might try squats and lunges too. Easy to fit in around the house and dcs. :)

whyme2 · 07/09/2012 06:47

thanks for posting those youtube clips. I have no excuse now. Today is the day of the first great bike ride. Bike is checked, tyres pumped, all children will be at school and the weather is good. No excuses. I will be out on the bike later. Confused

At the moment I am far too scared of Jillian Michaels to even look at the dvd box. I will stick with Rosemary Conley. She is much more gentle. Grin

whyme2 · 07/09/2012 06:48

Hope you are feeling better soon dontpet Thanks

amillionyears · 07/09/2012 07:41

Agree that Rosemary is gentle.Forgotten how gentle compared to others.
Never heard of Jillian Michaels, will look her up online, but Im sure not for me either.
Enjoy your bike ride.

Hope you feel better too dontpet, and I'll match whyme2 with Thanks
