Anyone else training for a half marathon?

golemmings · 23/07/2012 22:25

I graduated from c25k earlier this year and ran my first 10 race in June. A friend has told me that I can do a half marathon in the autumn so I've signed up for one.

I'm a week into the training programme (using the rw one for 2:00-2:15 finishes) and I'm finding it really hard going.

Is there anybody else who is doing a half who wants to share moral support/abuse/highs/lows?

Well done issy! Was thinking of you on day (peering at random women and thinking oo wonder if that's Issy, slightly unlikely amid 12,000 peopleGrin)

Still bedbound and poorly, this bug is awful. I have lost half a stone since Sunday, and I don't exactly need to lose any weight. Positive side: when I can eat again its the Cake Diet for me.

Hope you feel better soon Kiwi as that sounds miserable Grin

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 09/10/2012 22:14

Kiwi - how are you doing now? Hope you are feeling better.

Issy - are you my long lost twin sister (apart from the yellow tee shirt)?

DH is out on a recovery run and has been telling me I ought to do one too. But someone has to put the dinner on Grin.

KiwiPanda · 11/10/2012 06:49

STILL poorly, still have awful stomach cramps etc.

BORED now. Need a grumpy petulant emoticon.

tiredemma · 11/10/2012 06:54

I would be up for doing Royal Parks next year!!

im desperate to get back out and do a half marathon- my knee still keeps playing up though once I get to about 5/6 miles. Its a pain in the arse tbh because i know I can further but I'm worried about damage.

Going to see a physio.

well done everyone x

humblebumble · 11/10/2012 16:36

poor kiwi I hope you are starting to feel better, it sounds awful

emma I hope the physio can be of some help. I have issues with my knee as well and it is frustrating. I find resting and icing works (RICE) as well and taking an anti inflamatory if it is really playing up. The best thing for me is rest and easing off the longer runs.

I am hoping to get back out running tomorrow, I meant to go earlier in the week but life just got a bit busy. I still haven't got my next goal yet...

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 12/10/2012 03:43

I too have a dodgy knee (and ankle, and hip...)

I'd planned to go out tonight for a short run, but didn't leave work until 8pm. So planning to go in the morning instead (if I post on here I'm more likely to Grin)

KiwiPanda · 12/10/2012 19:37

Hello all! Thank you yes I am finally better and managed to go for first post-half run at lunchtime at work today. Only 3.5 miles but have running club tomorrow so just wanted to give the old legs a stretch Grin

onedev · 13/10/2012 13:02

Well done Kiwi - hope work is going well.

I'm really struggling to run with the dark nights & nothing really to aim for! Need to get myself back into gear again!

humblebumble · 14/10/2012 12:56

Glad you are feeling better Kiwi.

I've managed a couple of runs (3.5 miles and 6 miles) and a boot camp and overall feel good.

I also discovered the official timing at the race did not record my time properly, it was a fault on their part. Whilst I know what time I ran, it is disappointing not to have it officially recorded.

I still haven't decided on the next target race, I need to soon as (like onedev said) it is harder to get out running when it is getting colder and darker.

humblebumble · 14/10/2012 14:41

okay, found another HM to do, the next one is Nov 11. Apparently it is very flat, but could be really windy as it is mostly on the water. Lets hope for a non-windy day!

I just have to break the news to DH ...

Idocrazythings · 14/10/2012 16:15

Just got back from my first half. Really enjoyed doing it (apart from my iPhone dying @ 10.5miles so I had to run the rest without music). No official time yet, but I think I'm pretty close to 2.20 (just not sure what side). Smile

humblebumble · 14/10/2012 16:43

well done Ido it's such a great feeling isn't it?

KiwiPanda · 14/10/2012 17:05

Well done Ido!

I have entered another half (Reading) but its not till March. None of the others I could find were really near enough. So I've got a 10 mile race next Sunday then a 10k in November then nothing for ages.
Want to do some cross country over winter though.

My little one is one year old today bless her

Went for a 10 mile run to celebrate (hmm). Definitely not much energy though after nearly a week of being ill so hope I feel a bit more zippy by next Sunday...

Idocrazythings · 14/10/2012 18:20

Happy birthday little kiwi!

Just checked my official time and I got exactly 2.20.00!! Surely that time is worthy of a lucky number prize hehe

KiwiPanda · 14/10/2012 20:42

Ido you should have slowed down a bit, 2 :22:22 is even more prize-worthy I think :)

Idocrazythings · 14/10/2012 22:51

Kiwi- Grin

onedev · 14/10/2012 23:55

Well done Ido Grin & happy birthday little Kiwi.

I did 6 miles this afternoon & it was lovely as sun was shining & was able to run quite fast. Running with a friend tomorrow night so that will make me go! No other HMs near me until March & can't find much else before then either. We're moving house soon, so that may help to motivate me as running will surely be easier than decorating Grin.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 16/10/2012 12:12

Well done Ido! That's brilliant!

Belated happy birthday to little Kiwi Smile

humble - what are you doing next?

Good to see people are out and running. We were away at the weekend so I've not run since Thursday. I hope to go this evening.

humblebumble · 18/10/2012 00:57

Neither I'm doing the Verrazano Festival of Races. It's in Brooklyn and on the water. Do you want to join me?

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 18/10/2012 03:37

I would if I could humble, but I'll be coming back from the UK that weekend.

Issy enter some more races! I've not done a lot since myself mind what with going back to work and being ill twice. But I have a 10 mile race tomorrow. Am determined not to do myself in and just enjoy this one!

humblebumble · 20/10/2012 14:29

Hi all, I managed to do a 10 mile run yesterday in spite of the pouring rain. It felt good to do a longer run. The 3 miler I did earlier in the week felt much tougher, I'm not sure why!

Having a goal of another half is definitely focussing my energy, I doubt I would be out running otherwise, I find it too hard to stay motivated.
