Will post the race list later on computer.
Come one, come all. We are a band of maverick posters who run, talk about running, and talk about other stuff, mostly life, large pants, and questionable children's artwork. Come and join us if you dare! Disclaimer: we are actually the friendliest thread on MN. Fact.

that sounds absolutely beautiful littlechief Loving your hare and tortoise miles too Grin. With Aesop as your personal trainer, what can go wrong?

Wheelybug · 13/01/2012 15:56

Fishie - I think you can use a HRM with it. I have a HRM from a previous garmin and hoping to use it with the 110 . Although haven't checked it works with it yet.

Wheelybug · 13/01/2012 15:57

Great run chief !

fishie · 13/01/2012 16:41

ooh runnerstipple great to have someone in the same race. I'm very race resistant but got a free place. Garmin is here what a lot of translations ofmanual 11!

RunnersTipple · 13/01/2012 16:55

fishie how did you swing that?

cestlavie · 13/01/2012 17:45

Great run chief and well done for getting out. Your run sounds gorgeous.

rhetorician · 13/01/2012 17:49

yes, you can use HRM with the 110, but not with the 205 (which is why I flogged it to bonkers) - wheely if it's a garmin strap it will probably work, but other ones won't - and the straps are quite pricey

RunnersTipple · 13/01/2012 18:09

Thanks for the feedback on intervals. I've a Garmin 110, and I don't seem to be able to set it for time, so I set it for half mile laps. Perhaps rhet I need to set it for quarter miles, but then run two fast and one short slower recovery? Then I would automatically run proportionally more distance harder.

rhetorician · 13/01/2012 18:12

I don't think you can set the 110 for intervals - the 205 and up you can - e.g. it will bleep off either time or distance for you and then count down the recovery to the next interval - that's kind of why I run them on the treadmill - easier to be properly disciplined. I am sure I will end up buying yet another Garmin at some point. 2 fast and 1 slow would probably be about right. Try it and see!

RunnersTipple · 13/01/2012 18:18

I'll try it that way next week, and see how it feels. Strangely I felt better today after what was technically a harder run than I did after a five miler yesterday which was supposedly easy. Maybe I didn't work hard enough.

Wheelybug · 13/01/2012 18:38

Rhet - I have a garmin one somewhere which I got in a package with my original garmin (fr60) so it should work. However, I need to find it.... But don't think I'll start using it until after the HM as I'm guessing once I get back running I won't be doing any high intensity work for a bit.

And I think I might end up with a 'better' garmin before the year is out. I miss the functions my FR60 had - the downside
Of that was that it was footpod rather than GPS and v inaccurate.

Wheelybug · 13/01/2012 18:40

Runnerstipple - I do my interval recoveries
As half the distance of the fast bit if that makes sense (1k fast 500m recovery) so 2 fast and 1 slow would work!

RunnersTipple · 13/01/2012 19:01

thanks wheely

orangeLFDThead · 13/01/2012 19:20

He not doing that great peach he had to have some tests done on his kidneys yesterday he gets the results today. Going to ring him in a bit, spoke the other night and he sounded bloody awful and only spoke for a minute or two then he had to go as too weak, which was quite upsetting but then he has been really bad like this before then pulled through. Thankyou for asking. Probably stupid to say as I know you all wouldn't but feel have to say please no one mention him on facebook as little people know how ill he is. Sorry I know you wouldn't.
No running today as working and shattered now. But going to try and get out tomorrow.
Sorry about me post.

fishie · 13/01/2012 20:16

oh dear orange. I hope you can get out tomorrow, time to mindlessly pound about is so helpful with everything.

runnerstipple I got free as am local. Notice at school today they're looking for vols to marshal, hand out goodie bags etc, made me feel quite proud to be doing it. I am looking forward to seeing more actual proper olympians training round here, there was a GB guy last winter, he was another species to me, i felt like a sort of mushroom beside a gazelle.

Hey, I forgot to tell you all, my bday is shared with Murakami. Now he's another species too, am reading IQ84 book 3, not like anything else.

rhetorician · 13/01/2012 20:19

orange I'm sorry to hear that - you are so strong for your family, I don't know how you do it. Agree that a run might be the very thing (although given the thread we're on it's the cure for almost everything, isn't it?)

sfxmum · 13/01/2012 20:21

Orange I am sorry to hear, don't worry no mentions will be made and besides the groups posts do not show up on general wall anyway

fishie I am listening to that book (first part) at the moment, got it on audible as a freebie. On paper I am reading Independent people by Laxness, both very good but very different

sfxmum · 13/01/2012 20:23

meant to say chief sounds like a good run and about my pace I seldom get it under 11 and average between 12-11.30 with occasionally good miles at 10.

rhetorician · 13/01/2012 20:25

sfx that's about my easy pace too - although clearly I can put on a show when there are intervals involved. Increasingly I don't care, although I would like to get sub 1 hour for a 10k race - I'm just grateful and glad to be able to get out

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 13/01/2012 20:28

Sorry to hear that orange. Must be a very difficult time for you all.

sfxmum · 13/01/2012 20:34

Rhet my aim this year would be to get it under 1 hr ad well but I am also very tempted to enter the Royal Parks half in October. feels like the next natural step, or maybe it is the effect of hanging around with you lot Grin

DebiTheScot · 13/01/2012 21:00

Oh rubbish orange, thinking of you and the rest of your family. Hope he can pull through again.

fishie did you really have factor 50 on today? Very jealous at you getting a place in Olympic run, it'll be amazing.

No sore shin after a bit of pain when running yesterday, yay. I'm going to do parkrun tomorrow as it's all offroad and I didn't do it last week. Then Monday my HM training proper starts.
The plan I've got is 4 times a week but I think most weeks I'll just do 3. I'm just going to pick and chose which sessions I do from each week. And I'm not going to do any speed work (at least for the first few weeks) but will just run the distance it suggests at normal pace.
My LSR (I've never done one of those, looking forward to building up the miles) will be either at the weekend or on a Tuesday and if it's a Tues I will do a cycle instead at the weekend.

orangeLFDThead · 13/01/2012 21:37

Thanks everyone. Just spoke to db he not got all his results back but he seemed alot better tonight and we talked for a while, although he had a few hours sleep before which must of helped.
Im just eating a very large bowl of [cover your ears shred] pasta, I do love my carbs. Don't think they love me as they make but bloat but I could never give them up.
Sounds like there is lots of good rubbing going on. I have found a local 10k in march and another in april. Not going to enter yet as not sure whats going on with this ttc malarkey. Hopefully they won't get booked up so can enter nearer the time.
No races this weekend Shock

rhetorician · 13/01/2012 21:45

that sounds a bit more positive orange

we seem to be in the midst of 6 week growth spurt here - dd2 hasn't stopped feeding/crying since she woke up at 5. I am feeling a bit useless - there's not much I can do to help, and a bit lonely really - I spend most of my time in the company of a (very lovely) almost 3 year old, and hardly ever seem to even get to talk to DP, even though we live in the same house and both of us are at home a lot. I know it will pass - just feels quite hard at the moment. And I know lots of people have much more difficult things to deal with. Just needed to vent a little, I suppose.

not sure if I will run tomorrow - I've done 4 consecutive days - no great distance, but it's been a while and I am pretty tired. I am getting sleep, but probably only 5-6 hours, and not in a single chunk. Probably not helping my mood much either.

peachsmuggler · 13/01/2012 22:17

orange, glad db seemed a bit better tonight. Such an awful worry for you all.

Rhet, am sure, like you say, the lack of sleep doesn't help and things can start to feel overwhelming. Hopefully the growth spurt passes and A becomes more settled again.

Am just about to head to bed with K. She hasn't slept at all this evening (though she slept all afternoon). Need to have a think what to do about it. Wonder if we should start thinking about an earlier bedtime, but when and how???

Washing machine officially fucked and fridge freezer still not fixed. I feel the need for a run!!!
