Will post the race list later on computer.

Featherdown looks fun - Would it be too cold at the beginning of April ? especially as DH is fairly anti camping and a bit of a wuss Grin ?

Really Great intervals rhet

rhetorician · 12/01/2012 20:45

you know, I really enjoyed them - think I could push them up a tad, as well - should I do more of them, or do them faster? I think I should do more, and reduce the recoveries, and then do them faster

fannybanjo · 12/01/2012 21:29

Great intervals rhet! I'd do more, then lengthen them a tad. Recover though for similar time, I think it's important so you're strong for next rep.

N4NNY · 12/01/2012 21:55

please could I have some non running advice please

I have just had a telephone interview for a nanny job when i went to sign on yesterday it was on the system as an advailable job to suit me I was given the details and told to go and apply.

The job is 3 children age 22 months, 10 year old and 12 year old. They have a dog and i'm really not keen on dogs even nice one worry me I could cope with this if the job was in the area of Bristol I know and have a built up network of places to go and people to meet up with. Its only 4 days with 5 days occationally but I would need to find something to fill the 5th day to earn enough to pay the bills.I've never worked with the older age before and its always hard taking over from another nannyand mum works from home. The mum sounds lovely over the phone. Mum seemed very keen.

Do I go and meet the family and take the job because its a job knowing it will prob make me unhappy in the long run or do I wait Confused

Wheelybug · 12/01/2012 22:12

Could you go along n4nny and meet them all and openly discuss your concerns ? Then could you do it on a trial basis so if it doesn't suit or something else comes up you have a get out ?

N4NNY · 12/01/2012 22:21

not sure it would be fair on the family to start but be on the look out for something else :( which I think if I took it I would be

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 12/01/2012 23:21

N4NNY I think I would be fine as a parent if someone was open and honest about their situation, if you explained it might be they would feel it coukdnt work, or it might be that they would be happy with a (possibly) short term arrangement. I think you won't know until you have that conversation.

squix · 12/01/2012 23:24

sfx - oh dear - hope your neck/shoulder gets better soon. futurity - how's your neck /shoulder doing?

n4nny - I agree with wheely - it sounds corny but any interview is a two way thing, and should be as much about you sussing them out as them checking you out.

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 13/01/2012 08:10

Oooh that one is sometimes shown on Scottish telly Squix - You will have to tell us what you plan to wear so we can watch out for you.

I am undecided whether to run today. Lovely weather, had planned a 1.5hr long run but feeling tired and unenthusiastic. Someone give me a kick up the bum!

peachsmuggler · 13/01/2012 08:14

. I bet you'll have s
a great run once you're into it. Would be a shame not too if the weather where you are is as nice as it is here!

RunnersTipple · 13/01/2012 08:25

N4nny seconding what wheely, shred and squix have said. Also, would it affect any benefits if you refused to go for an interview?

chief, just plan to go out for a gentle 20 minutes and see how you feel when you get out there.

futurity · 13/01/2012 08:27

Here you go chief ...KICK! Smile
Neck getting there squix ...still aches some of the time but very slowly getting better.

Running club went well last night..they are determined not to let me slow down and it works! Have entered another half which I will add to the list when I have a moment.

rhetorician · 13/01/2012 08:31

poor chief's arse is looking a bit sore, so I won't administer another kick...going out for 10k this morning - cold and frosty - perfect running weather

N4NNY I think the others are right - you can only be open and honest and if your needs and theirs are incompatible you will find out amicably if you are upfront about things from the start

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 13/01/2012 08:43

Thanks all - got my running stuff on!

fishie · 13/01/2012 09:15

bonjour. just necking a cup of tea before taking dog for a quick 10k.It looks lovely out there, I've got factor 50 on first time this year.

cestlavie · 13/01/2012 10:44

Good on your littlechief - did 10 miles first thing and it was fantastic out and about. Cold and bright and beautiful. Hope you enjoy the run!Feels like I'm getting a bit faster, well bit faster than same distance last week at 8.09 m/m. I put it down to my gorgeous, wonderful Brooks Racers!

wheely, Featherdown might be a bit cold to be honest in early April, especially if your DH is feeling wussy about the cold. 'Tis warm enough tucked up in bed inside the tents but think the evenings and first thing in the morning could be rather chilly at that time of year.

Those are great intervals rhet, treadmill or no treadmill. Almost at sub 7.00 m/m on one of those which is Moshi pace!

How's the decision making going N4NNY!?

peachsmuggler · 13/01/2012 11:04

Hope it all works out N4NNY, I agree to just be upfront about your concerns.

cest, sounds like the mojo has returned! Gawd bless the supershoes!!!

Rhet, sounds great, looking lovely here too!

orange, how's your db doing?

fishie, take it then there is no hangover from yesterday's festivities??Smile

RunnersTipple · 13/01/2012 11:22

Just back from 3.5 miles with half mile intervals. At the risk of being boring, how do these look? I found split 4 hardest as its up an incline, but on split 6 felt that I could up the effort a tad. My average pace was 9.45m/m compared with 10.06 last time I ran that route (without doing intervals). I'm not sure whether I should be making the recovery time shorter. I'm never going to be a speed merchant I know, but will doing this once a week really help with reducing pace over a longer run?

1 5:11.4 0.50 10:22
2 4:27.6 0.50 8:55
3 5:04.4 0.50 10:09
4 4:39.7 0.50 9:19
5 5:11.5 0.50 10:23
6 4:30.7 0.50 9:02
7 5:02.7 0.50 10:04

Forgot to say fishie congrats on getting a place in the Olympic Park run - see you there!

cest do you think if I got Brooks racers I could approach your speed for just one half a mile Grin

stickyLFDTfingers · 13/01/2012 11:36

runners I think you are doing exactly the right thing. It is amazing and magical how doing intervals makes you faster overall. Tho let me know if getting cest's shoes is the key to success and I'll get some too Grin.

rhet your 400m sprint times look fantastic. I would also be worried about coming off the machine - I guess you have to be very sensitive to the slow downs each time? I might nick your formula and have a go with it outside.

Well done for getting out littlechief, hope you're having a good time. The weather's lovely here - bit icy in places, but sunny and clear.

rhetorician · 13/01/2012 12:00

sticky the guy next to me had the treadmill going at 18 kph!! I think I'd call that a bicycle...I am proud of the fact that I was strict - so I only counted off the distance from the point that the tm was actually running at the target speed, not the point when I started pressing the buttons...

runnerstipple - they look great, but long-term you want your speed part to be equal to, or slightly longer than, your recovery part - so reverse those - so you might just cut a bit of distance off the recoveries, or take the same amount of time - but you could probably afford to go a bit slower on the recoveries. Moshi always makes the point that the recoveries are exactly that - to enable you to complete the tough interval - so maybe make a bigger speed differential between each part of the interval (FWIW I jogged mine at about 11 m/m) - even walking is ok if you are really pushing it

rhetorician · 13/01/2012 12:07

oh, sticky I just do them manually as none of the programmes seem quite right

stickyLFDTfingers · 13/01/2012 12:12

I've never done anything more than set the pace and run for a bit on a treadmill. I find them simultaneously scary and boring! I tried it for a bit last spring in Germany given the snow was thigh deep and I had no running shoes with me, but even then could only manage about 20 mins. Those elliptical trainers were good though, wouldn't mind some more goes on them.

fishie · 13/01/2012 12:13

Right it is a sign I must get garmin. Phone recorded 1h20 as 44mins rendering me the fastest thing on 6 legs (took dog). Off to sweatshop to have a look. The bargainous one doesn't have hrm does that matter ?

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 13/01/2012 12:53

Well, I did it. 1hr 30min, 7.23 very hilly miles rewarded with lovely views North to the Angus Glens and South over to Fife.

Here are some splits which my Endomondo app has helpfully marked as tortoise (mile 2) and hare (mile5):

mile 1 14.14
mile 2 14.48
mile 3 13.26
mile 4 11.34
mile 5 10.13
mile 6 11.18
mile 7 11.41

I know these will seem super-slow to some of you but they are all at
