Anyone want to join me? It means we should start 2012 being able to run 5k - now there's an incentive to stick with it.

Glad your night was slightly better. I really, really want to go for a run now; the weather is stunning but I think the roads are too pitted (and the buggy tyres too hard) for ds's comfort.
Instead I'll see whether dh gets home in time to pick up dd or whether I pick her up, drop both kids home and head out as soon as dh arrives through the door leaving him to sort tea out.

Change of plans last night I decided to do an hour of yoga instead thinking that might help overall fitness whilst giving my knees some time off.

I actually ended up playing Assassin's Creed for a couple of hours instead! Great fun but not so helpful for running training. Heading for the gym tonight...

golemmings · 01/02/2012 20:28

C'mon kick have you been out today? If not I shall don my lycra smug pants because I have just had a superb run. It was a little nippy but fresh, the sky was clear and it all came easily. No lactic in my legs, and I could have run further. I was slightly slower than r2 ( 6.18/km rather than 6.09) but it felt fast and easy and I ran the return leg quicker than the outbound.

Looking forward to week 8 now.

Week 3 Run 3 done at the gym - was a right sweaty mess at the end. Still a little worried about week 4 run tomorrow but I have faith that it will all be OK! My ankles were a little sore after I finished so I'll keep an eye on that. I'm looking forward to lighter nights coming.

So kick have you been running yet?

go Week 8!! Grin

kickassangel · 02/02/2012 16:19

YES!!

The cats woke me up at 5.45 this morning, so I went on the treadmill. I am 'running' at a ridiculously slow pace, but my legs felt loads better, and I did week 5 r1. Legs still quite achey by the end, but not too bad.

I'm going to wait til Sun to do the next one, make sure my shins are properly rested.

ohbugrit · 02/02/2012 20:15

5 and kick, you're both doing so well with this, keep it up. Great that your legs are feeling better kick.

Go that run you described sounded perfect, just amazing. It does give you such a sense if peace, doesn't it?

Get you and your long distances tidy, it'll be marathons next (maybe?!)

I did week7 run1 today and it was a heavy legs one but I felt good by the end. Ran past my GP's house (talk about house envy, it's stunning) and felt like waving and shouting 'look at me doing cardiovascular exercise!'. But I didn't because that would have been odd and I'd probably have ended up with a restraining order.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 02/02/2012 20:22

Grin bugrit at your GP story Smile I always feel a bit smug when running through the hospital grounds or running past smokers Smile.
marathon mwa ha ha ha ha ha. No sireee.

ohbugrit · 02/02/2012 21:19

I know, I have smoker friends who try to tell me how bad running its for me. Truly deserving of a Hmm face.

5ofus · 02/02/2012 23:41

Ha bugrit ref GP house - if you do that can you get someone to film it so we can share?

I'm also liking that fellow runners say hello as we pass each other. I kid myself they wont know I am a beginner!I

Tonight saw me returning to the gym. This time was a yoga class which was just what my running legs needed. If I start contemplating a membership I'll need you to remind me of all the gyms I've joined and never gone to!!

5ofus · 03/02/2012 23:14

Week 4

Well I'm posting from iPhone so apologies if any daft spelling mistakes make it past my pedantic English filters.

I'm drinking wine (most of a bottle) to celebrate attempting week and actually having a good crack at it. Of the 16 mins in plan I managed 14.5 which I was pretty pleased with given I started running three weeks ago. Left ankle getting a bit opinionated so I'm giving it a couple of days off.

Drunk Grin

Thanks for getting me this far my running crew!!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 04/02/2012 18:53

Yay for drunk!!!

kickassangel · 05/02/2012 03:48

Have just spent the day in bed with back ache Sad can barely walk. Not too confident about running tomorrow

tropicalmum · 05/02/2012 05:06

I restarted mine yesterday but after completing it last year it now feels like I'm back to square one! :(

5ofus · 05/02/2012 06:51

Welcome tropicalmum - now there are six of us!!

I restarted just over three weeks ago. I have just done week 4 first run having never run before and being pretty physically unfit.

ohbugrit · 05/02/2012 20:25

Hi everyone, quick post to clock wk 7 run2. Slow but manageable.

Welcome tropicalmum!

Kick, I really hope you're feeling better soon. My knee is a bit iffy so I am half thinking of spending a week swimming or something instead. Annoyed after I missed so much with being ill but I'm terrified of injury. Sending you get better soon vibes.

kickassangel · 07/02/2012 00:22

I did w5r2 yesterday and felt generally ok except my shins ached by the end of it. My back feels a bit sore and tender today.

But now I am snotty and full of cold Sad

Planning to wait til Thu before the next run cos I am just tired and aches in general

5ofus · 07/02/2012 18:33

Week 4 Run 2 done out and about. It's 3 degrees but I had an hour to fill whilst DD was at gymnastics so I ran round in circles. I gave my ankle 3 days off but it's still not happy.

Has anyone been to have special trainers fitted? I'm wondering if my flat feet are responsible!

ohbugrit · 07/02/2012 19:26

I did, 5, and it was great. I tried on and ran in 7pairs before buying, IIRC. They set me back £70 but it was worth it because they are comfy and supportive.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 07/02/2012 19:33

Just checking in. All good here. Doing 3 runs a week and still enjoying it. Not great in the ice today though.
I bought some nike running shoes that are just fab, soft but supportive. I love them. They were in sports direct and reduced to about £40. Fab.

golemmings · 07/02/2012 20:17

Hi all, its clearly bug and injury season. Hope everyone's feeling better and resting damaged and sore bits.
Just done w8r1 and it was fine. Slightly quicker than my last attempt at w7. I'm still not getting quite to 5k, but I'm close. I thought about extending the distance today to get the 5k but it was so cold I thought better of it. My legs were quite wobbly as it was by the time I got home.
Oh, and you know that 5k muddy obstacle race I mentionned a while back? The one where the consensus was that you'd be insane to consider it? Well I'm all signed up for it. its march 10th so I'll report back!

You. Are. Crazy

5ofus · 07/02/2012 21:46

Agree! You are crazy!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 10/02/2012 21:43
ohbugrit · 10/02/2012 21:46

Ha, hi there! I'm still off, v sore knee :(

How are you?

golemmings · 10/02/2012 23:36

I'm getting out about twice a week at the moment which is a bit crap but its half term next week so I will complete week 8 and some of w9 and then I will make a start on the 5k improvers programme and some associated fitness training before next month's mudfest. Hope the weather will start to improve soon...
