Not managed to catch up yet, but belated congrats to the weekends racers.

Sorry to hear about illnesses etc and hope everyone feels better soon

rhet - Sad sorry to read about your cat.

I've just about shaken off my cold and decided to give a running club a try this evening. Ohhh it was hard work. It was a fartlek session and I ran with the slowest group and really struggled on the sprints. I am sure it will do me good - but I think I'll feel it tomorrow. There are some really strong runners ( lots of ultras, fast racers etc). Hopefully I'll be able to keep up somehow and it will give me the stretch I'm looking for. Afterall, I'm only looking to be 1 min 10 secs quicker for a half marathon Grin .

sfxmum · 08/11/2011 22:51

rhet you need is a friendly bookshop owner intent on educating babysitting the young for desperate times

peach yes she is

updating iphone, sure to make me scream shortly as it will undoubtedly tell me itunes library is empty, stupid machine
dh put headphones on loudly to better ignore me

stickyLFDTfingers · 08/11/2011 22:54

1 minute 10 seconds faster is a very specific goal (you obviously really got into that SMART goal seminar) squix. But good to hear you're better and up and running again.

Decided it's going to be a speed session tomorrow. I'm having trouble deciding what I'm training for and am distinctly unfocussed. On the one hand, I'd like to get faster over the shorter distances. On the other, I'd like to start getting marathon ready. Are the two unreconcilable? Do I have to decide?

Oh, rhet you've reminded me of the Winding Stair on the quays (happily close to Blackhall place when I was doing that particular circle of hell). Now that was a proper bookshop.

Hatwoman · 08/11/2011 23:16

sorry to hear about the cat rhet. monkeywench talks sense. pets give us so much.

sfx and peach - I haven't "seen" twink around for ages (I did go through a phase of neglecting the running thread but I've still been around). she was indeed inspirational - I hope she's doing ok.

I went out for 4.5 miles of fartleks this morning. lots of LFDT. and YCFDT (you can ...) - generally in response to the whingey bit of me that was saying I can't. I was disappointed in my times though. I'd so like to get faster and do something more than plod - but it's hard. I did do a pb yesterday for one of my regular 5 milers - guess I need to stick at it and resist the urge to plod. I also need to map out my training for Edale - debi you're so right about the fridge Grin.

looks like I can't do Stockport - which is v. annoying. We're away for Christmas so my mum is gathering myself and brothers and families together on the same day as Stockport - it's a three line whip. dh said I could turn up late but I think not. (though I could always persuade her that dinner would be better than lunch...)

Wheelybug · 08/11/2011 23:18

Oh bookshops are one of my fave places to be ... I hate the lack of them these days.

sfx I often think of twink too. And Mr twink. Often when running - Sometimes they keep me putting one foot in front of the other on tough runs. Truly truly inspirational. I so hope twink and her dd are doing as best they can.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 09/11/2011 08:03

Urrrgghhh, horrible night. Felt that baby wasn't really moving when I got into bed so got up and had some water, little movements but she is normally very active in the evening. Woke and 4.30 and same thing so decided to go to hosp to get checked out. Got here at 6.30 and put on monitor for 45 mins. All ok. Think it was a bit like your DP Rhet, it wasn't that there was no movement but it just felt massively reduced. Midwife doing monitoring was a bit dismissive saying "we normally only ask you to come in if you've had less than 10 movements a day", but glad I went as would have just worried
otherwise. Waiting for taxi home now so DP can go to his last day at work. Gonna be knackered today!

Wheelybug · 09/11/2011 08:07

Poor you peach. Ignore the old bag - its always better to get it checked out than leave it. Hope you get rest today. Is dd at preschool ?

peachLFDTsmuggler · 09/11/2011 08:15

Thanks wheely, no this is her day off! Arrgghhh. Got friends coming round this afternoon so hopefully they'll keep me awake!

rhetorician · 09/11/2011 09:23

peach that was a bit meh of the midwife - really, particularly at this stage they should be reassuring - it sounds exactly the same as DP, actually. As it happened I think she'd just moved a bit - still kicking away cheerfully like a mule!

sticky the winding stair is still there - but the bookshop is only the ground floor now; upstairs is a restaurant - a rather nice one, with lovely views of the Liffey

does anyone else with toddlers have a monumental battle with dressing and hair brushing? it drives me insane

long day's work ahead, but hope to squeeze in 6k or so before picking up dd this afternoon

OP posts:
peachLFDTsmuggler · 09/11/2011 09:47

Yeah I thought so too Rhet. I just feel so jittery at this stage about everything, just want her here safely really.

We are not too bad here wiyh dressing. DD tends to just stand there like rag doll while I do it. Have been encouraging her to dress herself but she always says "you do the tricky bits", which is most things. I often dong brush her hair as it is crazy curly but been trying to persuade her to get a trim but she refuses.

Any of you north easterners been to Barter Books in Alnwick. Itt is brilliant.

stickyLFDTfingers · 09/11/2011 09:52

Poor Peach, and silly MW. Of course you'd be concerned, and of course you should check. Very glad to hear all is OK.

rhet I think it might be quicker to ask who had toddlers who didn't raise merry hell about getting dressed in the morning. And all the books say stay calm, let them do it in their own time. Yeah right, they need to be in the nursery at 8am so I can catch my train... Even now, tho they get themselves dressed, they are very good at getting distracted - I found them doing the can can together in their pants at 8.35am this morning... Grin Full marks for musical appreciation...

Sonic thanks very much for the book suggestion. Once I've done the run I'm going to give myself some amazon time. Hope your training is going well, no more problems.

Just trying to get my LFDT together. I want a quick search for a plan. How about googling "plan for untalented runner who is not sure what her goal is"...

fannyletsfookingdothisbanjo · 09/11/2011 09:57

Another quickie from me.

rhet so sorry to hear about your cat. We have two, both rescue cats (one was a stray who just parked her arse in our kitchen one day and wouldn't leave - turned out she was pregnant Sad), myself and the kids would be gutted if anything happened to them. You become so attached. Hope DD wasn't too upset last night.

peach glad you and baby are okay. So worrying this pregnancy lark.

Sorry no time to name check anyone else - will be back on later. Really need to link to the crazy photo of me at the end of the HM on Sunday but cannot do it for some reason. It's a definite LFDT moment!

fannyletsfookingdothisbanjo · 09/11/2011 10:16

Oh yeah, I had to put the whole mantra in my username but even I have decorum sometimes and refrained from putting "fucking" in the title.

I've put photo of LFDT moment on my profile (for personal reasons I removed my profile a while ago but I've set it back up so you can see photo, if you've looked at my profile a while ago, you'll notice I've removed photos of kids, DH wasn't very happy about them being on the Internet.)

sfxmum · 09/11/2011 10:22

peach you did the right thing shame about midwife, unfortunately things that for us are very important they see as run of the mill,a good attitude makes a difference between a good experience and a bad one from the user standpoint, one of those real improvements with no monetary cost but really lacking in most places

rhet that tantrum business of dressing and hair is why I like the uniform at school, at weekends I let her dress herself and it is fine as long as it is weather appropriate, hair is another matter but as long as it is clean I dont really stress about it. dd has gone to nursery in her underpants, top and wellies, once there she decided to grab some trousers

sfxmum · 09/11/2011 10:23

about FB whoever wants to 'friend' initials CL black and white photo

stickyLFDTfingers · 09/11/2011 10:24

gosh, can't you open your mouth wide fanny!! Grin great photo of your LFDT moment! (I know what your DH means, actually, I don't put up pictures even though I know the risk is probably very small).

Yes I'm still arsing about on the internet. I'm going know (opens mouth very wide... Shock)

fannyletsfookingdothisbanjo · 09/11/2011 10:33

sticky yep, it's one of my many talents.... Wink. I have no idea what I was doing, I think I was shouting to DD who was running alongside me. Or I was probably roaring "NEVER AGAIN!!" to DH!

rhet Three girls. Getting them ready. Equals fucking torture. DD3 will only wear a top with an animal on. She now wants a kangaroo or a camel top. I have neither but she insists we have. Grin

peachLFDTsmuggler · 09/11/2011 10:37

Ha ha, brilliant photo fanny, and man, you've got great biceps!!! Not big and madonna-esque but great definition!!!

rhetorician · 09/11/2011 10:37

fanny lol. And lol again.

OP posts:
bonkers20 · 09/11/2011 10:39

I love your photo Fanny and ooooo don't you have a lot of apparatus when you run. I see music, water bottle and a bag. What's in the bag?

monkeyLFDTwench · 09/11/2011 10:53

sticky LOL re the cancan! I usually have to bellow like a fishwife be quite assertive to get three boys into school clothes in the morning (well ds3 is in normal clothes but actually uniform would be easier as he is fond of running round with his pants on his head). Speaking of which, I got very used to receiving the Bag Of Shame from ds1's nursery most days. Always nice to drive home with a pair of sodden wee pants beside you Smile.

peach - and Rhet - please never feel that any doctor or midwife has the right to be dismissive of your concerns. I don't want to frighten anyone, but I allowed myself to be fobbed off reassured when I shouldn't have, I should have trusted my instincts, and I paid a terrible price for it. Your baby and your well being is all that matters.

Off now to look at fanny's profile picture!

Hatwoman · 09/11/2011 10:56

great photo. very lfdt.

fannyletsfookingdothisbanjo · 09/11/2011 10:59

bonkers that's my fanny pack. It had my lucozade tablets, phone (which I use as IPod too), tissues (in case I need a piss, shit or to blow nose)!

peach haha my friends say that and I've NEVER lifted a weight in my life! I've never noticed though. However i do use my arms a lot when running. I have a feeling its having two toddlers to carry all the ironing Grin

rhetorician · 09/11/2011 10:59

monkey I really don't think they do; I have to say that the hospital was very thorough when we went in for monitoring and all of them were quick to tell us that it was fine to have come and check...I am sorry that some of these posts must bring back painful memories for you.

must go and teach!
