Lots of wise words on here tonight. I do think that as you get older you learn lessons, you reassess priorities and you hopefully become happier with your lot. Much as I would dearly have loved T to survive I can't wish he'd never been born, as it just becomes part of your personality. I read an interview today with Bob Geldof, who said he's finally in his 60s given up being angry and has at last found happiness. Not someone I normally admire, but he was spot on.

I'm very very close to my dad, he's always been the most supportive and calming influence in my life. I feel very lucky my boys have had the experience of spending time with him. Huge sympathies to those who have lost their much loved dad. I don't know how I would cope.

MoshiMoshi · 18/11/2011 20:30

I remember reading your post on the Bereavement thread soon after my dad died, DrNo and seeing that article. It really struct a chord with me and I think always will. Tis hard not to see him anymore isn't it? Like yours, mine was at my mum's beck and call. I think she only realises now how lucky she was. At the time, she just gave him a hard time mostly. Sad

Sending you LOADS of positive vibes peachy and lots and lots of LDFT energy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thread baby, the time is riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight (said to tune of the price is right!) Grin

fanny - I think we would all like you to start the new thread. Lots of crudeness and fnarr fnarr comments in it please. I can still remember my first running thread ("roll up! roll up!") - am so pleased to have such a lovely bunch of runners here. See you in the next one!

fannybanjo · 18/11/2011 20:31

I'm under too much pressure now to think of a witty title. The Fanny's writer's block.

monkey. The loss of a child is the worst possible loss of all and I admire you for your strength and your ability to share it with us. My nan lost her first born son at 18 months but always said she'd never have had my mum if he hadn't have died so she consoled herself in that way.

I firmly believe that what happens, it happens for a reason. It's the rare person who doesn't suffer somewhere in life. I always try to treat people as I expect to be treated. However I do not suffer fools!

DrNo what a lovely article. Your dad must have been very well thought of.

fannybanjo · 18/11/2011 20:34

Seriously I can't think of a title!! I've had bloody loads before too.

rhetorician · 18/11/2011 20:35

I have to say that one of the (many) things I love about this thread is that nearly everyone on it has had their troubles - many of them very big things that could derail a person - but that you all have a real 'can-do' and get up and get on with it attitude, that is really inspiring. And compared to some of things you've all been through/are going through the simple effort of putting one foot in front of the other day by day is the easy part...

OP posts:
rhetorician · 18/11/2011 20:38

oh and after all that seriousness

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 18/11/2011 20:39

rhet what I think is bloody brilliant about the bunch of people on this thread is that we all support the other, we all laugh and take the piss but I kind of get the feeling that if any of us were in the shit, we'd all move heaven and earth to help them. I think it's a class thread me and don't think there's one on MN that comes close to it.

rhetorician · 18/11/2011 20:40

yeah well, all the other mn threads are shite. Fact.

DebiTheScot · 18/11/2011 20:46

Blimey what a lot of posts today.
I re-read my posts from last night, I was a bit me me me, sorry Blush

Thinking of you monkey, must be so hard, I can't even begin to imagine that kind of pain.

Ooooooo exciting stuff peach Grin we need regular updates all night.

Shin been a bit sore occasionally today. I didn't have any time to run so wasn't so annoyed that I couldn't. Was going to do parkrun tomorrow but will shred instead.

Shred weights- I had worked up from 1kg to 2kg and onto level 2 a couple of months ago but had to give the weights back as I'd borrowed them from schl. So I used a large jar of dolmio (no idea how that got in my cupboard Wink) and a 4 pack of tuna until I bought some 2kg weights the other day. £5 each from Sports Direct.

fannybanjo · 18/11/2011 20:49

Haha I agree rhet I've been on MN for years and it's fucking awful nowadays, awful. I only really came back after lurking on this thread for donkeys. I was too frightened to post for ages!

sfxmum · 18/11/2011 20:50

funny thing is that the likelihood of us meeting up and chatting in real life would be pretty remote and yet we have the fantastic little community

on the subject of MN threads I still have friends from my antenatal and my local is lovely and we meet regularly with and without the children, mostly without for regular dinners, gigs and cinema

rhetorician · 18/11/2011 20:53

sfxmum it seems that the threads that work best are the ones with regulars, not the ranty, judgy, my child is a genius, yours is a dolt threads

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 18/11/2011 20:54

Debi piss arf my love, we all have posts that are Meme's, don't bloody apologise. What would we talk about if we didn't share our woes and wisdom...?! I had my post about rude pics removed, don't want that much info out in the public domain.

I'm in bed. Friday night and I'm in bed at 8.45am and I'm knackered. Middle age creeping up on me like a shite that takes days to come out properly. It's gonna come eventually but it's a grit your teeth road getting there. Can't believe I'm 37 soon. Feel like I'm still 18.

Wheelybug · 18/11/2011 20:59

Exciting news peach. thanks for letting us know - we'd have only started worrying Smile

Lovely article drno.

fannybanjo · 18/11/2011 21:05

rhet I love that episode. Grin the other week on my 16 miler I did the Phoebe run and screeched past my mate shouting "let's FUCKING DO ITTT!!!" - We were finding it hard and it needing lightening. She's warned me against doing it on Sunday though.

fannybanjo · 18/11/2011 21:09

I've started a new thread but can't link Hmm as on my phone - can one of my little helpers assist me please?

DrNortherner · 18/11/2011 21:12

I shreded tonight too debi, did level 2. I use 1.5kg weights and struggle. I need some more upper body strength! I notice that Natalie is a bit unsteady on her feet on level 2........

I am off to watch I'm a celeb but quick nutritional question. We are setting off to rugby tomorrow at 3pm, kick off is 6pm but dh wants to allow plenty of time and from here it can take 60 mins to get to Leeds. As it is night before I plan on running my fastest ever 10k I should be at home eating carbs for tea, instead I will be at Elland Rd and all that will be on offer will be burgers and hotdogs. Not that I have anything against burgers and hotdogs (love em) but just wondering if empty calories before my race will impact on my performance? Will I be best making up a pasta salad of some sort to take with me or will l look like an absolute twat?

Thankyou, you are all really rather fab Smile

DrNortherner · 18/11/2011 21:14

I am fannys little helper

bonkersLFDT20 · 18/11/2011 21:22

Monkey I'm so sorry to read about your precious DS. Hugs (I know they're not very MN, but sod it).

Rhet so what did you mean when you were talking about carrying DD1's weight?! I'm sorry it didn't work out for you in 2008.

Moshi I am at the very, very intitial stages of looking into a possible temp. move to Pasadena. We'd be able to run over to each other for cups of tea!

Peach I can't wait to hear your good news!

I think everyone should have a glass of wine this evening.

rhetorician · 18/11/2011 21:24

I meant that I weigh 2 stone more than moshi which is equivalent to the 28lbs that dd currently weighs...so it's like I am running with her on my back the whole time (does that make any sense at all)

it's ok that it didn't work out for me - we had a backup plan :)
