ooooooh Peach! I will be sending you lots of positive whooshy-not-touching-the-sides thoughts from Durham. Best of luck!!

rhetorician · 12/11/2011 17:41

fanny it's on my profile (specially for yoooou!)

OP posts:
stickyLFDTfingers · 12/11/2011 17:45

hello liath and congratulations on your race! Must be great to be back after a year off. Where were you racing?

Yes there are loads of Scots on this thread (i'm not one of them!) and it does give the lie to the entire Scottish nation sitting around drinking strong beer and scoffing deep fried everything, as the papers would have us believe...

liath · 12/11/2011 17:58

Sticky, it was in the borders, near Biggar - Tinto hill.

There weren't many unhealthy Scots there today, just lot of scarily lean fell-runners wearing very little!

Anyone else have embarassing pelvic floor issues running downhill? Blush

Bumply · 12/11/2011 18:10

Hi liath, I'm in Edinburgh too.
Just a beginner with a couple of slow 5k races under my belt.
Resting a groin injury at the moment and cursing that it's nice weather when I cant run.

N4NNY · 12/11/2011 18:12

My running buddy want to do the Brighton half but doesn't want to do it alone. Anyone done it before. Convince me it's a good idea

stickyLFDTfingers · 12/11/2011 18:16

the fell runners are scary aren't they? We get a fair number of them round here too (Co Durham). Make me feel like a little hippo! (Or a not so little hippo...)

I love the borders, such a beautiful area. So you were running up and down Tinto hill? Sounds tough!

Must go and make tea - SCD tonight and DD1 takes it very seriously. DP is dead to the world - he was cycling up on the moors today, which I understand was nice but knackering. Will I wake him for tea???

futurity · 12/11/2011 18:28

How exciting peach ...my friend is due today but has still arranged to meet up with me next Wednesday as she is convinced baby won't turn up by then! Seems like a popular time of year for babies...what was happening 9 months ago ...were we all snowed in?! Wink

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 12/11/2011 18:38

peach how exciting! I remember I had one with DS and wasn't quite sure if it was a show, so googled it - DO NOT ever google things like that and mucus plug, people post pics of it, it's gross! Sorry to hear about your stepmum, hospices are amazing places though, it's perhaps the best place for her.

N4NNY you should do the Brighton half. Haven't done it, know nothing of the race, but B Right On is lovely and it's good to challenge yourself.

I didn't manage a run today, feeling rubbish with period pains, so DS and I accompanied DP on his run. Hoping to get out tomorrow for 4 to 5 miles

DP is working this evening so I am planning to do work in front of the TV. Rock n' roll, I know.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 12/11/2011 18:40

Thanks bonkers, it's not her first, she's got 3 on her side and my dad has, well millions it feels like. My sister called having been to visit. She said the hospice is lovely and she has a view of the river and lots of beautiful trees abd she seems quite at peace with the whole thing.

Welcome back liath! Really glad you are back running. Am a Scot too, but sadly stranded in London. Have been "up Tinto" as a child! Great part of the world.

N4NNY, I know people who have done Brighton and loved it. Wheely's doing it!!!

sticky, naa, don't wake him. Present him with a cheese sandwich later on! Are you "casting asparaguses" on the size of my fanny??? Wink

peachLFDTsmuggler · 12/11/2011 18:49

Ha ha futurity, I was about to say, am sure Rhet had a powercut 9 months ago, then realised what a stooopid thing to say that was. I need a biology lesson and a sleep!

Rock and roll indeed Cherry! don't know if you're into such things but the Martin Scorcese doc on George Harrison on bbc2, continuing tomorrow night! Thanks for the google heads up, I'll resist!!

orangeLFDThead · 12/11/2011 19:22

Welcome back liath and well done
ooh how exciting peach. They might be all hungover but I don't really drink. Apparently you get free chips at the end.
Well done moshi. Obstacles! you are hardcore.

rhetorician · 12/11/2011 19:38

peach if only (instead of highly unromantic trip to the NW with accoutrements that you wouldn't want to have to explain at customs!)

I'm glad that the hospice is good - they are amazing places with such a good philosophy

I have to read all evening for (new) lecture on Tuesday - it could be worse.

Wheelybug · 12/11/2011 19:41

Well done N4NNY and moshi on your 10ks today ! Look forward to hearing all about it.

Good to see you back here liath . Not only are the Scots taking over but the feb 05 thread aren't doing too badly. 4 of us !

N4NNY - I'm doing Brighton half. Not done it before but know some who have and I know the route as am from there. I think its a good 'un and pretty flat although the winds might be a bit bad on a bit of the course.

futurity - I think it was possum who recommended the book but can't remember what it was even though it was me that asked her... I'll take note this time !

peach - you had that baby yet ??

Wheelybug · 12/11/2011 19:43

Oh and just got back from 5k. Does anyone else feel a bit embarrassed about spending your Saturday evenings running ? Esp as, if I run in the dark I tend to pass a lot of my friends' houses so risk meeting them....

orangeLFDThead · 12/11/2011 19:52

Fanny don't know if you have entered stockport 10 yet or still planning on doing it but online entries are closing this weekend not sure exactly when.

fannybanjo · 12/11/2011 20:17

orange I'm struggling re Stockport as I'm going to NY hopefully around that time. Hence why my friend wants to do Conwy Half next weekend... Blush

futurity · 12/11/2011 20:17

(wanders in..) "it's the goody bag for the Stockport 10...the goody bag for the Stockport 10.." (wanders out...)

rhetorician · 12/11/2011 20:24

never has Stockport been talked up so much...Conwy half would be cool - some serious hills around there. Beautiful town (nothing to eat after 9pm though)

DP is swearing at x-factor and all the lachrymose people...English people never used to cry all the time!

Race report: started with a rubbish night sleep so when the alarm went off at 6.45 I was so tempted to roll over and go back to sleep. Parkrun and my 10K was at the same venue one at 9am one at 11am. I decided that as it wasnt the best idea to run both I would voluteer for park run along with 2 friend who were running the 10k, great ideal til I arrived and found out I had been stationed almost at the turn point so i had to run up the bloody hill anyway to get there before the first runners past. It was a very very foggy start alomost couldn't see the runners till they were right next to me.

Park run done time to strip some layers put my chip and number on loo stop then it was time to line up at the start.

11am the fog has lifted and we were off I managed to get stuck behind a huge group of walkers that were really hard to pass it was very frustrating because it wasn't far to the start of the hill and I wanted to get a bit of momentum before hitting it but i was still stuck behind the walkers gggrrrrr. Finally get passed them and try running by which point we had already started climbing the hill.

I got up the hill with a mixture of run/walk we then had to go onto the grass to head down through the woods it was very very muddy and slippy underfoot all I was thinking was how bad it was going to be the second time round when so many will have been around twice already. Almost slipped a few times but manage to stay up right and we got back onto harder ground a bit flat a bit down hill, it was at this point the fstest runners were satrting to overtake flying past including one of my running group ladies who ended being first. got to the drink station at 5k then it was time to loop around again, managed to run a little more of the hill this time and once at the top mange to keep running all the rest of the way the muddy part wasnt any worse and I think I ran it a little easier.

passed the water station again refusing water because it was now the home straight and I just wanted to get finished in less time then my last 10k and I was on track ran down the hill had a bit of a joke with the course marshal about which way to go (he was a parkrunner it was one way for the parrun finish and the other for the 10K) then I sprinted like my arse was on fire to the finish line to get a chip time of 1H 18M 32S I was really happy my last 10k i did 1H 22M.

Splits
Mile 1: 13.50
Mile 2: 11.52
Mile 3: 12.42
Mile 4: 15.46
Mile 5: 12.07
Mile 6: 9.44
last bit 2.24

phew my longest ever post :)

peachLFDTsmuggler · 12/11/2011 21:19

Great report N4NNY, and look at you on mile 6!!! Nice one.

Nothing happening here Wheely, not a sausage since that little show this morning. Hope nowt happens overnight as neighbours who would come in to look after DD are away tonight!!! How are things in Tinkle Town?

N4NNY · 12/11/2011 21:22

peach I'm very pleased with mile 6 not sure what happens there maybe Garry garmin malfunctioned:)

N4NNY · 12/11/2011 21:24

bonkers good luck with your run tomorrow hope your as lucky with the weather

rhetorician · 12/11/2011 21:26

N4NNY don't be silly, Garmins never malfunction great run - was trying to see your route, wanted to compare your big hills with my big hill last week. Enjoyed your report, too.

AM shattered and really need to do some prep for next week; DP feeling grumpy and hormonal (her description, not mine :o)

DD has been a star today - really good all day. I think she is starting to feel confidence about her ability to handle potty training. No accidents at all today :) am very proud of her

looking forward to my 10 miles tomorrow morning - hope weather is nice. Am at the needing to bring my phone stage if I'm going to be gone for more than an hour ;)

Keep your legs crossed peach ! Which reminds me of dd2 .... After her 9 hour holdathon yesterday she said today she didn't want to wear pants and quite frankly what with having to take her to dd1's swimming lesson and having friends round for lunch, I couldn't be arsed . So, parked again for the moment ... Am a bit rubbish Blush
