I'm running in my first pair of Brooks now due to my local running shop not having Asics in my shoe type in my size. But, I am a TOTAL convert. Love them. They fit like a glove.

master you are hardcore still doing your half when those around you are chickening out. Respect lady Grin

I did 8 miles this morning, and felt like I could have done 2 more rather easily. Can't believe that 10 miles is now a nice run for more, when 12 months ago I was very new to this malarkey. Must say though, morning is not my best time to run, I am a better early eve runner or late aft.

Wheelybug · 29/10/2011 18:51

Thank you all I knew I could count on yiu lot to tell me to get on with it.

Ok panicky question of the evening number 1. Given I have a Couple of hours journey to get there would you put timing chip on before leaving home so its done ? It's plastic tags and returnable one if that makes sense (i've had disposable ones bwfore ).

Same qu re race number but it has pre cut out holes so less likely to panic about that

Wheelybug · 29/10/2011 18:53

Masters. I will think of you especially.tomorrow. I think the worst security issue for me will be whether my bag gets mocked from the baggage room.

DrNortherner · 29/10/2011 18:54

Yeah put it all on in advance. Less to worry about that way. Good luck hun Smile

DrNortherner · 29/10/2011 18:55

Bag gets mocked?!

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 29/10/2011 18:59

Good luck racing people tomorrow, and especially to wheely's bag - it's a tough pecking order in the bag room

DrNortherner · 29/10/2011 19:03

wheely you getting all PFB about your kit bag? Wink

Wheelybug · 29/10/2011 19:04

Yes nicked - doh ! As if my bag would get mocked (hides crappy old rucksack)

monkeywench · 29/10/2011 19:13
orangehead · 29/10/2011 19:29

Ah poor wheely's bag. Yes I would put on before [pretending I know something about chips, only done local runs wih no chips].
Just looked they have no 7 1/2 but do 8. I am normally 6 1/2 - 7 depending on make in normal shoes. Just looked at some reviews some people love them and feel they have less injuries with them and others seem to have more injuries with them. So confused

orangehead · 29/10/2011 19:38

Shock Just seen Jimmy Saville died. When I was little there was quite a big race, as lots of people, every year that went down past the end of my road. Every year all us kids from are road use go to the end of the road to watch them run past and Jimmy Saville always did it. I have been thinking about it recently and how great it would be to do that race but can't figure it out maybe they don't do it anymore.

DebiTheScot · 29/10/2011 20:28

I actually can't stop laughing at "I hoped my bag doesn't get mocked" Grin

orange I'm 6 1/2 to 7 and have an 8 in running shoes. My current ones are Mizunos and I'm an over pronator too. But are you sure it's the shoes causing the shin splints? Have you done anythign else different recently? Both times I've had shin splints it's been when I've upped the milage and added strides/sprints into my week. And the sprints were on paving a slabbed pavement which in hindsight was a bit daft!

wheely come on you can do it and you will do well. I do symathise with having no one there to watch though, that sucks Sad

I did parkrun this morning and did it in 27:00 which is similar to my last 2 runs and 30 seconds slower than pb which I got on my 2nd week and haven't got close too since. Tummy was bothering me a bit again. Not as bad as sometimes but I'm getting so fed up with it. Can not figure out what causes it as it's totally random.

Oh and have a trapped nerve in the top of my leg (bum!). It just appeared out of nowhere this evening and is sending shooting pains down my leg and up my back. I couldn't do anything other than stand on one leg and squeal. DH told me to man up! It was so sore I felt sick! Keeps coming and going, no idea if I should be worried.

Pan · 29/10/2011 20:36

wheely's unmockable sports bag

Wheelybug · 29/10/2011 21:08

It's a sparkly Disney princess one actually.

Right. Am all packed. I think I have everything bar the kitchen sink.

Have train ticket

DH cooking me pasta (him feeling guilty - not half?!)

Early bed hopefully, hope dd sleeps, but added bonus of clocks going back ! Makes up for last big run I did - the breakfast run at 8 am the morning the clocks went forward.

peachsmuggler · 29/10/2011 21:15

Look at it this way Wheely, if they're mocking your bag, they won't be mocking your wee short legs! Wink Aww, sorry, I won't take the piss, but you'll never live that typo down. You'll be fine going on your own and after all that training YOU HAVE TO!!! Honestly, if I wasn't the size of a house I'd jump on the train and come with you myself!

Welcome pan, you're a.......boy!!!!

Pan · 29/10/2011 21:40

yes, said Pinocchio, I am a real boy.Smile And also the size of a house. In summer I was a grand country manor, now an overstuffed detached 4-bedder - aiming for a svelte townhouse terrace.Smile.

fannybanjo · 29/10/2011 21:47

Very quick post as on my phone, exhausted isnt the word for how I feel atm, had 8 nine year olds sleeping over for DD1's birthday last night. Hmm NEVER. FUCKING. AGAIN.

Want to say good luck to racers tomorrow wheely missed the bag typo - where's the post?! Hope you get sorted tomorrow, what a nightmare re DH.

master please take care, you're very brave.

No running for me since Wednesday as DD1's birthday celebrations resemble a Saudi Princess's.... Tomorrow at 8.30am precisely I shall be donning fanny pack and running for the fucking hills going for a 10 miler at HM pace. Then taper week.

fannybanjo · 29/10/2011 21:48

Sorry good luck to squix too!!

stickylittlefingers · 29/10/2011 22:00

peach are you practising that line for later Wink?

wheely good luck for tomorrow. It's obviously great to have people to clap you in at the end, but I kind of like the wellardness and "this is for me" feeling of doing races on my own, too. It's good to do it differently from time to time, I reckon. And don't let your poor needy bag listen to those nasty bag-mockers, they're just jealous.

Debi trapped nerve sounds painful. Hope that goes away soon. The stomach thing's annoying - have you tried keeping a properly detailed food diary to try and pinpoint the cause?

M&M I think you must deserve the LFDT medal for not ducking out of the race. Also looking forward to the race report (and hearing you're back safe!)

orange I was going to do that naughty check out the shop then buy online thing, but ended up buying in the shop because they had end of line stuff too (so fantastic when the best shoe is also the cheapest :)). I don't think you'd be the first to do it. But I reckon you should always try before you buy - you might like x brand, but then the next "improved" version turns out not to be so good for you (this happened to me and Brooks, tho I'm a neutral runner).

fanny you're only 9 once! What's her 18th going to be like then... enjoy your 10 miler, sounds like you need it!

Pan hello!

We did the Halloween park run today (me and DD1). I was a devil, she was a pumpkin! We did it in 36:56, which was a PB for DD1. Bless her, we had a sprint finish that I had to sprint for because she absolutely was not going to be beaten by the boy who came racing up behind us on the last km. Loving the competitive spirit!

peachsmuggler · 29/10/2011 22:14

Which line sticky, (sorry am probably being thick!!) Halloween Park Run sounds brilliant!

Fanny, you deserve a medal woman!

pan, much like Posh Spice, I fully intend to be a studio flat, about 3 minutes after giving birth. Figure all I need is some edamame beans and a "can do" attitude!!

stickylittlefingers · 29/10/2011 22:18

the "you're ..... a boy!" line. Perhaps it was just me who practised the "boy!" and "girl!" announcements when pregnant to test out how I would feel about each Blush. I like to get these things sorted in advance.

Pan · 29/10/2011 22:20

yes peach - my weight loss is less so swift! And this is a swift-moving thread, as I remebered! Raining all evening means a spish-spash-splosh 5 miles tomorrow morning, longest run in a year. Are we all going to be limited by the ealryness of darkness as of tomorrow??

fannybanjo · 29/10/2011 22:28

sticky yep, thank the Lord she's only 9 once. 9 is the new 13 me thinks. As in prima donna behaviour is a gift you receive from them on day of birthday. She was crying last night as we were all playing Charades and she didn't want to. She's such a control freak. I've photo of said tantrum which will be used as coasters for her 18th birthday party. I painted 8 sets of nails. Did 8 sets of eye makeup with winged eyeliner. 8 sets of hair dos with bastard pink glitter hairspray. Unfortunately whoever was last looked more like Shameless than Sharpay but the thought was there... Grin. Oh yeah and instead of party bags I'm getting jute bags made with a photo of them all on to give out. I really need to calm down and stop trying to be the Mum from Mean Girls. WinkGrin

peach how you feeling my sweet?

peachsmuggler · 29/10/2011 22:30

Ha ha Sticky, well no this one's a girl, or at least she doesn't have a winckle. A boy without a winckle??? etc etc Wink

pan, I shall be languishing in bed, enjoying the extra hour of my weekly lie in. But don't worry, will be with you all in spirit, running vicariously!

fannybanjo · 29/10/2011 22:31

pan welcome! Oh oh oh oh a BLOKE! Best wind me neck in and behave. Blush
