Welcome back fairy

hope the park run went well Debi

orange, great news on the pb.

Master, hope all well weatherwise, and also with regards to security for tomorrow.

Well, after her early night DD woke just after 10 last night asking to read Dear Zoo! Got her into her jammies and read a few hundred books and she was back asleep by about 10.45. Woke up at 8.15 this morning. I think that's what they call a result!!

Felt absolutely huge last night. Was so uncomfortable I thought I can't manage like this for another 3 weeks!!! Think baby had moved sideways or something but is now back to being head down as I feel much better, and can feel her back on my cervix (nice!). Got 3 year old birthday party today then clocks go back tonight, which rocks as tomorrow is my day for a lie in. Ker-ching!!!

ibbydibby · 29/10/2011 09:16

Just popping in to wish good luck to wheely, squix and M&M. Hope your cold doesn't come to anything, M&M or at least that you can hold it off until afterwards.

Have given the parkrun a miss today - decided I needed to do a long run in readinesss for HM at end of Nov, so DH suggested I go out with his running mates this morning. Am much better at long runs in company, if I am on my own, I am tempted to cut it short....They usually run at 6.30am but as a concession to me(!) agreed to meet at 7am. We did 12 miles so pleased with that.

Still no news from Olympic run ballot, but one of DH's friends has had a rejection. Trying not to raise my hopes....

Wheelybug · 29/10/2011 09:51

Thanks all. Huge spanner in logistical works. DH needs to attend a meeting in reading at 10 in the mornimg . So no GSR for him and a new headache for me working out what to do. Am a v cross wife.

DrNortherner · 29/10/2011 10:28

Dh has a thought. His name is Jamie.

Jamie is alos a girls name. I could run instead of him.

Themasterandmargaritas · 29/10/2011 12:02

Haha nice try dr No, but surely he ticked the female box on the form??

Storm is rumbling around me as we speak, it rained all last night and most of the morning and looks like it is about to again. Sad There may be some very wet and muddy witches and mummies tonight....

Thanks for all the good wishes, it means a lot. Wheely I hope you get the logistics sorted. Now, have you got your kit ready yet?

Rhet, we had to gently let my mum down this NYE as we shall be travelling. She also forgot that now I am at work full time I don't have very much time off anymore. The festive season is always a tricky one to balance who comes and who cooks. Grin

Peachy I'm glad you are feeling huge, I'd be a bit worried if you weren't by now tbh Wink

N4NNY did you parkrun in iceland? I see it was the inaugural one. I'm thinking of setting one up here, will you all come for my inaugural parkrun?

Afternoon runners! May I jog along with you? I had posted months ago, but then cut back running due to work stuff, but that is sorted and am back to a nice reg. bounce of training. Up to 4 miles in 35 mins, and am eying Hatwoman's Edale thing in March as a Big Goal to aim for. (would like a nice 10k before end of year though.) Rest today and then a 5 miler tomorrow. Get to run on a nice-and-friendly-to-your-joints trail.

Are we waddlers or 'serious runners'?? or a nice mix.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 29/10/2011 13:46

Hi y'all,

Welcome back to pan. As to waddlers or serious runners, well personally I vary between the two extremes!

MM just let me know when your first park run is and I'll book the plane ticket! The local running club are setting it up here in my town after Xmas so I will have to try it out.

Wheely I hope you get your transport issues sorted out. Grr to your DH and his meetings.

DP went to running club on Thursday night and came back telling me they were doing a saturday morning run at 10.30. So I duly turned up and ended up looking like a muppet as in fact the run was a pub run so not starting in the usual park spot! Last time I trust him for anything. So did about 3 miles in the park with hills - I HATE hills with a passion but can see they are good for me.

Plus, does anyone else find it really hard to run in the mornings? I think for me it's like my food hasn't hit me properly so my legs feel dead and I just feel exhausted.

Oh and both me and DP didn't get places in the Olympic run either. Boo. Congrats to those that did, you will have to LFDI for all of us.

RunningAllDay · 29/10/2011 16:14

Hello Pan - aspirational serious runner, but a long way off yet!

Cherry - agreed, mornings are horrid. For me its dehydration during the night. 9am is the absolute earliest that it is pleasant; afternoon better; evenings best. I envy the morning runners - would be so good to get it out of the way before breakfast!

Done a 3day walking trip with the girls (aged 7 and 5.5); lots of cliff paths, lovely b&bs (especially wonderful full Englishes) and hiking up hillforts. And almost NO MOANING, despite torrential rain on Day 2. Really enjoyed it - not exactly running-level exercise, but hiking with a 20kg backpack, dragging a 5 year old uphill was exercise of sorts!

Well done to the Olympic runners (doesn't that sound good?!). Envy

And good luck to weekend runners - looking forward to hearing all about it.

June2009 · 29/10/2011 16:44

hey pan mix of everything I think, some of us have garmins :) (not me yet!) some of us haven't had a bra fitting in years ;) (haha that was a couple of threads ago, hopefully everybody is fitted now!!).
Sign up for the event, what's the worst that can happen :) Also wouldn't mind another 10k before the end of the year, or some kind of obstacle course of some sort...

I am training completely differently to how I used to for my Half back in September, mainly sprints & fast 5ks during the week and as much as I love setting off for 10k on a sunday morning it is really nice to not have the pressure of fitting it in all in.
I think I still qualify as a runner though, I have to, I just spent £150 on running gear LOL.
Also means that I have upped my weight training and I must admit that I'm really seeing a difference to my abs (much more definition now - though not six pack territory yet!)
Don't get me wrong, I'm signing up for the same Half next year as soon as the registration opens ;)

rhet hope your mum's stay is going well, I haven't caught up properly on the thread. Dad has said he is not coming for xmas this year which is a little bit of a relief for me as he is such hard work but it is a bit of a minefield as well, if I don't insist that he does come he will forever tell everyone we don't want him for xmas. (He has done the whole car & ferry which takes like 12 hours instead of an hour plane journey as well)

cherry I'm a morning runner (not by choice), usually have breakfast (porridge, handful of nuts and poached egg) around 6:30 and work out or run from 7:45am. Having said that I think I run better/faster in the afternoon.

Good luck to the runners for tomorrow, LFDT!!

By the way it is nice to have the list of races as the first post, very convenient! (I realise that it gets updated throughout so doesn't actually have all of them on...)

Pan · 29/10/2011 17:14

No, no bra fitting here either.....don't do drag.[bloke emocion insert] Grin

Morning running - it is more of a challenge isn't it? Research indicates ( somewhere) that mid afternoon is when we are strongest, so early doors would appear to be something we are not physiologically designed for.

Wheelybug · 29/10/2011 17:17

Kick up arse required over here. Still at MILs (well gone shopping). Planning on early train to Portsmouth tomorrow but feeling fed up and miserable about it. I know I ave to do it - trained for 6 months, got over ankle etc but feeling v much like there's not much point travelling there on my own, running on my own and then coming home on my own. And weather isn't meant to be good. And I feel earachey etc. And MIL is pissed off we're still on the scene (and lots of poor dh not poor me).

Anyway feeling sorry for myself. Tell me to STFU and FDI.

Winge over - heading back to the MILs to spoil her trick or treating fun with the dds.

Welcome pan - I don't think I usually winged quite this much.

Drno - a male colleague of dhs did the royal parks half in a girls place last year and got away with it..

orangehead · 29/10/2011 17:17

Welcome pan. I'm serious in that I take my running seriously get very upset if I can't get out for some reason. But due to time restraints I only manage to get out three times a week so hardly hardcore, my mileage is not hardcor either and I'm on the slow side, but nevemind.
Glad you had a good time in Scotland Fairy
Cherry my best runnng time is about 9am, I'm to much of a zombie in the morning but would love to be able to get up early and do a run and would be able to fit alot more running in if I was able to do that. But I really struggle with evening runs I just feel too tired and also struggle with the eating thing in the evening.
Did 6 miles this morning which went well. I was stopped by an old elady who told me her local church puts on a 5k every saturday morning at one of the local parks then they serve breakfast at the church afterwards. I think she was trying to convert me Wink.
Want to ask some advice regarding trainers. Basically when first started running got really bad shin splints so in the end went to running shop that did gait analysis and got some saucony which were great, no shin splints. After I had run them got shin splints again so went back and got some adidas which got rid of the shin splints again but did not feel quite as happy with them. Anyhow I can't really afford at the mo to go and spend £80 -£90 at the running shop but seen some really good offers online (but can't find the saucony ones Sad). So what I getting to is if I order ones that or structured or for overpronantors will they be ok are they all basically the same? Or I am best getting ones they have seen in run in at the shop. Also I keep hearing about brookes, are they really good. Just worried about ordering online and getting shin splints again. Thanks in advance.

Pan · 29/10/2011 17:21

FWIW, to not go will make you feel even more miserable, n'est-ce pas? All the prep. and no result, as well as the inconveniences. Bolster up the resilence to it all and go. ( puts on coaches baseball cap - picks up clipboard.Smile)

Wheelybug · 29/10/2011 17:28

Yes absolutely pan.

And looking on brightside at least dh won't beat me on little training

orangehead · 29/10/2011 17:28

Consider yourself well and truly kicked wheeley. Good luck for tomorrow and squixand Master hope everything ok with security.

orangehead · 29/10/2011 17:31

I am sure I also typed something along the lines that you will regret it if you don't do it wheely but think I must of somehow edited that, very strange.

monkeywench · 29/10/2011 18:05

Wheely . STFU and yes, very definitely, we expect you to FDT. And report back afterwards please. We'll know if you didn't go for it .

Good luck to all our weekend racers . Master I expect a suitably exotic report! squix make sure you give wheely the mumsnet stern look if she wavers ......

Welcome pan! Definitely a plodder at the moment, but aiming to cut my distances and increase speed over the next few months.

orange I'm a massive Brooks fan. I bought my first pair about four years ago and have never looked back. I have big feet and wide toes as well as being an over-pronator and having legs different lengths (attractive, yes?) so I need plenty of room to spread my toes or I run like a constipated camel. The GTS 8 Adrenaline are (IMO) the best shoe they ever made, and I have three pairs bought for a bargainous £19.99 because they're an old model. What size are you? Because I take an 8 I tend to google the model I want then do a price check. You could always be really naughty and go and try loads of shoes in person, then google them and get the best price online. Just sayin', like .....

7 miles just now, meeting a friend tomorrow for 6ish tempo run, but has to be early so I'll be up with the worms to get to her house. I tend to prefer running in the afternoon due to avoiding the need to crap myself outdoors digestive issues, but sometimes it's unavoidable!

DrNortherner · 29/10/2011 18:10

pan welcome. I think all of us one here are serious runners regardless of pace and distance. We all love it and would be less fit and less happy without our running.

masters, wheely and squix good luck tomorrow guys. How are you all feeling?

Pan · 29/10/2011 18:18

yes, my thoughts too Dr - less fit and less happy without it. I'm trying to get to a fast 5-6 mile runner but that's going to include some nice old friendly plodding along the way! oh and get some functioning abs to help it all and lose some weight. ( currently 14 and a half stone at 6 foot. my metabolism really doesn't help...)

June2009 · 29/10/2011 18:23

wheely Embrace the new experience, I go to all my races on my own by choice (except the last 10k where dh and dd showed up at the finish line.)
I LOVE IT.
If you go back a few pages you'll find some really inspiring race reports, whenever I read one I just want to be there :D

Get there early, have a look around to know where you're at, where the toilets are, bag drop etc, soak up the atmosphere and most of all ENJOY IT! I promise you it will be brilliant! OOoooh, Portsmouth is only an hour and a bit away, I want to go now!

Expecting a race report too! it is a drug you know, we need our fix when we're not running ourselves, our sanity depends on it :D

sfxmum · 29/10/2011 18:25

hello all

wheely go do it lady, be very zen about it, treat yourself on way back, serene in the knowledge you did anyway Grin

pan welcome back mister, serious waddler with aspirations here

Themasterandmargaritas · 29/10/2011 18:31

Wheely, I'm on my own too as all my fellow runners have bowed out due to security concerns Sad Dh will do the fun run with ds1 but it's at 9.30 so about the same time I'm due to come in (hopefully!) so Lets fucking do this you and I together. Go girlfriend, go girlfriend.

OP posts:
June2009 · 29/10/2011 18:33

Monkey LOL @ "constipated camel" you and fanny are going to get on well ;)
pan haha, no bra, sorry I forget not everyone is female :)
Well, running is a good way to loose weight, well done for starting running again and you know easy does it, if you need to plod along from time to time that's absolutely fine :D
I've been on weight loss for over a year now (16 months), believe it or not I started at just over what you weigh and am now 8.6 stones, running/cardio has been a BIG part of my training regime for the first year, that and eating right/clean. There is unfortunately no secret, eat right and exercise. (bodybuilding.com and their bodyspace is a good site for weight lifting/abs stuff).

dd has coffee grind on her hands, better go now I think!

orangehead · 29/10/2011 18:35

I did think about doing that monkey but would feel really cheecky trying aload on then not buying. So the GTS 8 Adrenaline ae for overpronators? I take size 7 and 1/2 in runnng shoes.
