Hi everyone!

Just 4 mile hill workout for me today, I've realised I'm actually a wimp as I got to the top of the first (steep-ish) hill and felt sick. Pathetic!

Took ds2 out shopping today while an electrician ripped apart changed our kitchen lighting. What a nightmare, I don't know how you lot cope with full renovations.

Labour and me - hmm. Not something I consider myself very good at Smile. With ds1 I didn't get the choice - I had to have a planned cs at 35 weeks due to the twin positioning issue so I never even got into labour. With ds2 I had a lovely normal VBAC delivery on gas and air, by far my best birth although ds2 was 9 lbs 10 oz and came out rolled up in the foetal position - honestly it was almost comical, he shot out like a bowling ball! Ds3 was a disaster - planned second VBAC, but it all went way too fast and he got very distressed so I ended up knocked out by a GA and having a crash section. I guess it just shows you can't predict anything, just go with the flow .....

Thinking of your dad and his wife peach - what a terrible time for you all.

stickylittlefingers · 27/10/2011 20:13

Peach so sorry to hear about your Dad and his wife. SOunds like the hospital is not being as helpful as if might be. Very frustrating. Hope you're doing OK through all this.

Cherry hope you get well soon.

Thoroughly enjoying HT here. It's not great not to have a job, but it is fantastic spending the holidays with the girls. There's been a science fair on in Durham, just the kind of thing I used to feel guilty about not taking the DDs to in the past. Going down on the farm tomorrow :)

peachsmuggler · 27/10/2011 21:28

Goodness monkey, that all sounds quite distressing. You see! Fast can be bad too!!! Right, will stop obsessing over impending labour, it will be, what it is Smile

Yes, just where is Mr "lavie"???

Got an email today to say places still available at Reading half marathon, in case any of you crazy fools are interested!!!

Glad you and the family are enjoying half term sticky. not going to see the Tin Tin film are you? Wink

Right, am cream crackered and off to bed. Night John boy!

squix · 27/10/2011 21:38

DrNo - glad you enjoyed Edinburgh. I fell in love with the city when I first came here. I was supposed to be here for 6 months and 15 years later I?m still here!

master - hope the situation has calmed down and you are all safe.

rhet - hope you have dried out! My plans for next year ? hmmm haven?t really thought about it yet. I will do a ½ marathon at some point during the spring (I will knock off that 1 min 09 seconds to get a sub 2 hr ½ !), DH is trying to persuade me to do the Tiree 10k ? which looks lovely and also thinking of doing the kilothon, but might just really focus on the 2hr ½ .

Moshi - welcome back, hope the trip was successful and you managed to do everything you wanted to do.

Peach - sorry to hear things continue to be hard for your dad and his wife. Hope you all find some peace.

fanny - hope you are feeling brighter.

monkey am gobsmacked at your dh?s ex secretary ? it?s just unbelievable what some people do

Blimey we do have a lot of stuff going on on this thread.

Having an easy running week this week ? 10k Sunday, 4 miles Monday then 5K yesterday and that?s me until the GSR on Sunday. Just have to avoid falling down stairs, twisting things and slipping over in the next 2 days and I should be fine!

Hatwoman · 27/10/2011 21:40

quick wave to get you back on my threads-I-am-on. all well here. I sat down and half did a training schedule leading up to March - all a bit scary and time consuming, but I do want to do this - and do it well. I've been trying to be a bit more focused and less plod-like - doing hell reps and fartleks. That was meant to say hill reps of course but hell reps is good (and I'm sure I've done that typo before). I did quite a short one today - literally ran up and down the hill on the edge of the village 4 times. I think the dog was quite mystified. hope everyone is ok. thinking of you and family, peach.

N4NNY · 27/10/2011 23:01

Please could someone add my race to the list I'm on my phone it's Ashton court 10k on 12/11/11 thanks

DebiTheScot · 27/10/2011 23:01

DrNo and squix I love Edinburgh too. Went to uni there and would move back there tomorrow if I could.

squix what's the kilothon? The Tiree 10k sounds good.

Very impressive Hatwoman It should be worth the effort though.

I did 4 miles today. I wore long sleeves and 3/4 length leggings so it is officially winter. Mind you I only wore the leggings because they were new. Could have got away with shorts.

squix · 28/10/2011 09:15

wheely - in case you manage to pop in here?s some local knowledge from my sis.

This website has a lot of information (although it was for 2010).

www.greatrun.org/events/Information.aspx?ctid=87&id=12

Other parking options
There is Southsea Common, which costs £3 per car, but might be a bit of a mare to get out of at the end of the race. Or the park and ride but that's £15 per person for a return trip!!! (See www.nirvanaeurope.com/events/bupa-great-run-series/bupa-great-south-run/race-day-transfer-only

Or local advice ? parking at Fratton Park station could be a good option if you can gets there for about 9 ish and don't mind a bit of a walk / warm up. It's about 40 mins to the start, but it is close to the Eastern Road, so will be better to get out of the city at the end of the race than parking on Southsea Common.

Or as the link says, there is the city centre parking, but again that is a bit of a walk to the start.

Debi - Kilothon / Kilathon/ Kilomarathon ? not sure what the correct term is but it?s 26Km ? there?s one in Edinburgh ? well starts in Fife and finishes at Ingleston near Edinburgh airport and one somewhere down south. Last year was in April, a few weeks before the Edinburgh marathon.

ibbydibby · 28/10/2011 10:06

Good luck this weekend, wheely, squix and master.

Sorry about your dad and his wife, peach. So distressing and sad for them, and families.

Shock about your DH ex-secretary. Just unbelieveable

Squix /Debi - is it kilomathon? Have looked on website and think booking for both London and Edinburgh events opens on 1st Nov.

N4NNY this is your Iceland weekend isn't it? Hope you have a great time.

Moshi welcome back, v impressed by your latest addition to the race list - SF marathon, how cool is that. Great to see that you are still intending to do Norwich. Am hoping to go on longish training run tomorrow with DH's running friends.

Well done all of you who mentioned joining running clubs. Am sure that this has helped me enormously, you always push yourself that little bit more when you are with other people and someone is telling you what to do. Also easier to get out of the door on a dark & chilly winter's night, when you know that you will be meeting up with friends. Also, really enjoying meeting new people who I would not have otherwise met - and good to have something in common other than children!

Felt a bit off colour earlier this week. Did parkrun on Saturday, then 10k on Sun, and club training (hill work) on Monday evening. Was just exhausted on Tuesday, still felt a bit wishy-washy on Wednesday.

Looks like lovely day today, here in Norfolk anyway. Off to empty 2nd load of washing and hang it out.

squix · 28/10/2011 10:20

wheely - Parking update - it might be Fratton Park which is the football stadium rather than Fratton Park Station.

N4NNY · 28/10/2011 12:59

ibby yes am currently at the airport waiting for my flight.

Just had an email I didn't get a space in the Olympic stadium :(

DrNortherner · 28/10/2011 13:25

O M G. Dh has got a place in the Olympic Park run!!! Email arrived today. Totally miffed I registered us both and only HE gets a place. Harumph.

Anyone else?!

monkeywench · 28/10/2011 13:39

Nothing here yet....

futurity · 28/10/2011 13:48

Nothing here. I will be fuming if my DH gets in as he doesn't even run!

futurity · 28/10/2011 13:54

DH got a rejection ...I've not got anything yet ?

Wiifitmama · 28/10/2011 14:04

I got in!! So excited!!! Must start training seriously now!

DrNortherner · 28/10/2011 14:07

I have not got a rejection so not sure what that means. The money has been debited from our account for dh though.

Oh well, even if I dont get to run it I will be happy to spectate. Still an amazing opportunity. Need to start thinking about the logisitics now of getting from Yorkshire to the big smoke.......

DrNortherner · 28/10/2011 14:10

Spoke too soon. My rejection email just arrived.

rhetorician · 28/10/2011 14:16

nothing so far here...just checked...will try again

rhetorician · 28/10/2011 14:18

still nothing! managed 8k this morning, and heart rate stuff already seems to be helping, running easier, slightly faster, at same heart rate :)

must go

monkeywench · 28/10/2011 14:47

Oh I got a No.

futurity · 28/10/2011 15:03

Got rejection Sad

ibbydibby · 28/10/2011 15:11

Nothing here either...are those of you who have heard either way relatively high up in alphabet?

stickylittlefingers · 28/10/2011 15:38

how exciting about the Olympic park run (and :( for those that didn't get places) -will it be televised for us all to try and spot the MNers and MNOHers?

N4NNY hope you have a fantastic time in Iceland. Very Envy and looking forward to hearing all about it!

M&M is the race going ahead? Hope all is well with you, best of luck if you are running.

Wheely and Squix hope you have a wonderful day, and achieve wonderful times!

Moshi good that you got a new continent sorted out for us. We are still needing someone to cover Asia - any takers?

All this talk of lovely Edinburgh - is anyone looking to do the M/HM/10k next year? Nothing on the race list as yet?? My brother is nudging me to enter. He wants to do a marathon before he gets too "old and creaky" - he's 32 ffs!!
