Ladies you've made me feel better, thank you! Smile

drno I'm sorry you feel low, I've read your threads (not recently) about your mum, that's enough for anyone to deal with. My friend has similar experiences to you (although not as bad) and she struggles. I think in the end, either your body gives in from the constant strain or your mind does. You going out for a run tonight? DH is in late tonight but even if it's 8pm, I'm going out as I need to de-stress.

I think I am also ready to get back out working, can't yet as DD3 still too young (in my eyes anyway!) to leave full time. Would rather be skint! However I'm starting to go stir crazy as a SAHM - I've done it for too long!!

sticky thank you for your kind words. You're a star. . Hey, got an email from GNR other day, my heart leapt but alas, was only some shite from them!

peachsmuggler · 26/10/2011 17:47

Strangeways, well done on joining the running club. How old is DS?am sure it won't be too long till you can get out in evenings [hsmile]

DrNo, glad you all had a great time in Edinburgh. Sorry you're feeling a bit low today, and missing your dad [hsad]

Rhet, what is it with old people and coaches??? They flipping love them eh? They, and twenty-something travellers are the only people that can put up with the bloody things. My niece regularly travels from Glasgow to Guilford on the £1 megabus, the thought of which just makes me want to weep. Of course, I do admire your mother for her green travel choices, though am guessing sustainability is not her primary reason. It's probably more about annoying the arse off you!! Good luck soldier, hope it goes fast!

Fanny, you poor thing, that is awful. You have done a wonderful thing and been slapped in the face, am so sorry. Not sure what advice I can offer but I for one, really admire you. Hope you have fun tomorrow celebrating DD1's birthday.

monkeywench · 26/10/2011 18:32

Oh yes, old folk and coaches! DH's parents go to these amazing destinations - Canada, the US West Coast, etc etc - all on Saga coach trips. They spend literally days on the coach, get off for a couple of hours, take some snaps and have a cup of weak tea, then on to the next destination.

They then come back with about a million holiday snaps, all featuring 56 elderly people dressed in beige standing in front of a coach. They may as well have taken the pictures at Victoria coach station. The beige thing is fantastic, it's so uniform they blend into the background as though camouflaged.

drN sounds like Edinburgh is your fun place. Ours is Brighton, we always get there with the boys when we can for tacky treats and fun times. Sorry about your dad Sad but how lovely that he's always there on your mind.

fanny - sigh. I am a mug of the highest order. I practically have doormat stamped on my forehead.

DH is also very very trusting and always believes the best of people. A couple of years ago his secretary - who had worked with him for about 10 years - was found to have been forging his signature on various expense forms and pocketing the money. The auditors picked up on loads of "unusual" expenses he'd apparently signed off for her, and he was under investigation for a couple of months on the basis that they might have been in it together - he had no idea he was being investigated until they told him he was in the clear. So a person he trusted completely was basically quite prepared to put him in a situation where he could have lost his job and/or be charged with fraud, all to line her own pockets.

The saddest thing is that she was found to have pocketed money from various office collections. They only got proof of a couple of occasions, but she'd been put in charge of every collection for at least 10 years so who knows? When ds1's twin died, she collected a fairly large sum of money from his lovely colleagues which we asked to go to the bereavement suite at the hospital where they were born. It now seems the money never actually got there Sad.

monkeywench · 26/10/2011 19:02

On a more positive note, my new bargain running shoes have just arrived. Brooks GTS 8 Adrenaline - I think the latest version is GTS 11, but I thought the 8s were better, and have managed to get another two pairs for £19.99 each - first time I bought them they were £75 each. I had to go up half a size to clown feet proportions a size 8, but worth it to satisfy my tightwad careful tendencies!

rhetorician · 26/10/2011 19:40

monkey, lol at the coach trips...peach I don't think it has anything at all to do with the environment - although I am sure the price is appealing to her. She has some issue about carrying heavy bags - although she always travels very light.

monkey and fanny - both of those stories are just awful Shock and it does make you think twice and three times about reaching out to help people. But at the same time, I suppose you have to give people the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

I didn't run today, although I am not sure how easy it will be to get out over the next few days - I feel weary and off colour. I want to get a couple of 7-8 milers in at least...3 racers this weekend and then me again on Nov 5th. My last for this year :( unless I get to the Due Date Dash :o

what are your plans for next year? I'm going to build base miles until about end Jan and then start on a training plan for BUPA 10k (April) - then maybe a half marathon late May/early June. The marathon series then, in the park (5 miles, 10 miles, a half...and maybe, just maybe...the marathon!). I'd like to do the Forest 10k again next year. 6-7 races sounds like more than enough!

DrNortherner · 26/10/2011 19:44

I love my Brooks wench, in fact I am a convert. Prefer them over my ASics now. I did 4.8 miles tonight, it's all I had time for as dh was going to BMF Feel loads better.

I managed an average pace of 8.39 tonight which is quicker than my norm. I am wondering if my Edinburgh diet of burgers, chips and sticky toffee pudding has helped? Grin

rhet I have no plans for 2012 other than Blackpool half, will throw in some more 10ks and perhaps a couple of 10 milers for good measure.

sfxmum · 26/10/2011 20:14

quick drop by

wench love Brooks what a bargain

drNEdinburgh sounds lovely, hope you are feeling a little less sad

rhet glad to hear you were not washed away, sounded bad

hope everyone else is ok, not much time to sit and read, need trash telly/book proto. sort of flying solo all week

sfxmum · 26/10/2011 20:15

pronto that should be

Wheelybug · 26/10/2011 20:21

Popping in from wet isle of wight. Managed a 5k yesterday am along coast. Then due for last run tomorrow but heavy rain forecast all day so thankfully there's a gym here so can treadmill it. Then its Sundays big one......

Hope I haven't forgotten anything vital....

Been thinkimg of you peach and your family and you rhet in the floods.

And now masters with all going on.
Hope fanny and drno are feeling a bit chirpier.

monkey - where are your brooks from ? I'm a brooks gts girl and need new ones desperately. I am so hard on shoes I was considering 2 pairs for half marathon training so I don't find myself I'm same positions and running the glad in trainers needing replacing.

Apparently new garmin has arrived at MILs ..... But old one worked fine yesterday. Oops ! Have admitted it to DH but pointed out that I was going to persuade him that I should get the new one to start the half training so its only a couple of weeks early. I seem tot have got away with it !

Anyway, stay dry folks !

monkeywench · 26/10/2011 20:38

wheely they were from M and M Direct - I just searched the model I wanted on amazon and they came up the cheapest. Came within 48 hours as well by courier so I was impressed.

Stay dry everyone, heavy rain on it's way. Good luck with DM Rhet.

peachsmuggler · 26/10/2011 21:32

Christ! Monkey, that's unbelievable! Fraud AND stealing from charities. What is WRONG with people....

Wheely, am getting very excited for you, I think you're going to do really well. Oops re. Garmin, but then every woman should have two, no?

Glad the run helped DrNo.

Rhet, I fully intend to win ballot place in the Olympic Stadium 5 mile run then do a 10k (probably a local Clapham Common one) in late spring then half in Autumn. Of course I may just pootle about and not race at all. We shall see.

Asked question on Childbirth section about people who had had 2 day labours with first DC, and what their second labour had been like. Most people seem to be saying "First lasted days, second one came out after 10 mins and a sneeze...". !!!!!!!!!!

fannybanjo · 26/10/2011 22:04

peach my births were all very different. I think what makes the big difference is whether you are induced or not. Fingers crossed, you go on time and don't need any interventions. Smile. How are you feeling? Says a lot about this thread that even with no running Peach, you're still posting on it!

wench I have the Brooks Defyance, I love them but I am hard on my trainers, mine need replacing and I've only had them 3 months and even though that's about right re mileage, they don't wear as well as Adidas. Bloody hell, how awful re the secretary. Good god, that is a sick stunt to pull, especially re charity donations. How people sleep at night.

rhet hope you feel better tomorrow, no doubt the toll of last few weeks of pregnancy, work, play, DD and relatives visiting is taking its toll. Try to remember that you also need to take it easy too.

wheely Grin re Garmin! Hey, good to have a back up. You nervous for GSR?

Just did 6.7 miles. Splits were first 3 miles at 8.10/8.20 then The Motherfucker Hill so 4th mile was 9 m/m then last miles were again 8.10/8.20. Very pleased as I found it a very easy pace.

Wheelybug · 26/10/2011 22:05

Thanks monkey will take a look when back to proper computer.

peach thanks for your confidence. Not really sure how its going to go but feeling a little bit excited. I did offer dh the use of my old garmin complete with pink elastic band but he's v. Ungraciously declined.

Wheelybug · 26/10/2011 22:09

X post fanny excited and nervous I think. And expecting nerves to take over once we've finsihed hols. Plus once I've broken it to dd2 mummy (and daddy but we're going throgh a big mummy phase at the mo) is going away for the night !

sfxmum · 26/10/2011 22:18

omg monkeywench surely a special kind of wrath for such people AngrySad

DebiTheScot · 26/10/2011 22:46

OMG at monkey'sdh'ssecretary Shock
I hope the girl's conscience gets the better of her fanny Sad
Good luck for tomorrow rhet!

Thanks for the nice comments about my duathlon. It's funny to read HM people tell me how impressed they are when I'm more impressed at you for doing a HM!
I'm having a lazy week (have been potty training ds2 so have barely left the house) and my lazy days have turned me into a lazy slob in the evenings too! I've got no kids tomorrow so will go out for at least a short run while I have a chance to go out in daylight.

Those of you who've had shin splints, does this sound odd- for my last 3 or 4 runs (the first of which was about 10 days ago I think) I haven't felt any shin pain at all. But last night in bed and again today I kept getting weird twinges in 1 shin. It was quite sharp and sore but didn't last long each time.

rhetorician · 26/10/2011 22:59

had forgotten about that Olympic potential thread meet-up (possibly because I have already dreamed that race [hgrin])...we'll all find out soon

monkeywench · 26/10/2011 23:12

Oooh yes, when do we find out about that stadium ballot?

I can't say for sure that money was stolen, but the hospital has no record of receiving it Sad.

debi we've had a quiet week this week too. Ds2 went to see Tintin today for a party while ds3 and I explored the delights of Hemel Hempstead Hmm and ds1 is at granny's ........

rhetorician · 26/10/2011 23:18

think it is Nov 4th?

sfxmum · 27/10/2011 10:12

hello all, getting itchy feet but no chance of running or time for myself atm, still half term quite enjoyable

was reading to catch up a bit last night

rhet best of luck, hold your nerve and all that, it will end

wheely double Garmin bug Grin I am sure you will do well

fanny I just wanted to say that you obviously have a generous heart and really in such situations you can only do your part and are not responsible for the response, fro what you say this is a profoundly damaged child who really does not and will never really relate to others in a 'normal' way. It is deeply sad and heartbreaking the impact of early profound damage on children.

happy running to those of you who can manage it

encyclogirl · 27/10/2011 10:58

Sorry for AWOLness people. Really insane work week and what with squeezing in running club and various other commitments, I didn't even open my laptop at home since the weekend. DD's been quite happy to use it in my absence though ;)

Rhet I was thinking of you on Monday. What was that rain like??? I was out with running club and Cork was still and calm with the starriest night. Got back home and heard about the storm in Dublin. Unbelievable. Good luck with your Mum!

Fanny I'm sorry to hear about that girl taking your stuff. We've been known to collect waifs and strays too. Sometimes it's so positive and sometimes it's a nightmare.

DrNo I am sorry to hear you're feeling low and missing your lovely Dad.

Nothing much going on here running wise. I'm out Monday, Wednesday and Saturday these days with the community walk thingy on Thursday.

Oh apparently I've been running through a groin tear these past 7 weeks. Finally caved and went to physio. He told me I clearly have no pain threshold to run through it. Little does he know I've whinged continously since it started...

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 27/10/2011 11:15

Hi all,

Having difficulty in catching up in where I last left off as have been crazily busy at work.

And also am currently suffering from Shitgate the Sequel here - what is going on?? 2 stomach bugs within 10 days!! I had my day all planned today - was going to go swimming before working from home and then running club tonight, but that's all fallen by the wayside. Think I'll have to give it a day or so before going back to running.

I too have entered the Olympic run - fingers crossed! I really want to do it and it's 2 weeks after the Cambridge half, so hopefully i'd be on good form.

Peach your comment about labours is all too familiar, I often wonder what my second labour will be like if we have another DC. DS was a 3 day special resulting in a 4am C-S, so if I'm lucky i'd get it down to 24 hours next time!

MoshiMoshi · 27/10/2011 12:53

Hello lovely ladies. Back from San Fran. Will browse later and post when I have more time. It seems some sadness abounds and I wish to ensure suitably un-MNetty hugs are provided. Will also update on our move.

peachsmuggler · 27/10/2011 17:30

Welcomeback Moshi, look forward to hearing all about it!

Cherry, 3 days then a CS? You poor thing, you must have been exhausted love!

Encyclo. Meant to say before, am really impressed with your community walks, what a lovely thing to do.

fanny, yes, would like to avoid induction if possible. Went on the drip about 36 hours into labour with DD and it was a little, erm, intense! Should have had an epidural but somehow it didn't seem like a good idea at the time Hmm

poor dad and his wife have been in a bit of state the last couple of days. I think reality has hit and they are not coping too well. My sister had to over yesterday and help them out as my dad wasn't feeling too well. DSIS got doctor in and think it was just stress, exhaustion and dad forgetting to take his diabetes medicine. His wife was feeling awful too after a trip to hospital on Sunday for an endoscopy that never happened as the consultants hadn't discussed her case yet.
Her appointment to meet with them was moved to next Tuesday but has now been brought forward to tomorrow. Such an emotional rollercoaster for them. Just awful.

Took DD to see The Lion King today. She loved it too. Always gets me that film. I am such a weenie!

DrNortherner · 27/10/2011 18:38

peach what a terrible time for your Dad and his wife and everyone around them Sad We should count our blessings indeed.

Moshi GREAT to have you back in the fold. Can't wait to hear the news.

Where is cest these days?....
