New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 05/10/2011 18:27

I'm glad you've made a decision, Moshi!

Fanny I have a feeling it is £1500, but you might want to double check. It's rather a lot, anyway!

I'm having a pretty rubbish day, but a good friend had a baby girl this morning, so that's cheered me up :)

fannybanjo · 05/10/2011 18:27

Jesus whizzkids want minimum £1600...!' Blush hmm I'd struggle to get that.

Pawsnclaws · 05/10/2011 18:36

Think whizzkids is one of the cheaper options - lots of them want minimum £2000. The charity I did Brighton for is a small charity and even they want £2000 for a London place (was only £500 for Brighton).

I think if I failed to get in on the ballot a few more times I might chance it just the once, but for me personally I just can't go round asking the same people year after year for money Sad.

Themasterandmargaritas · 05/10/2011 19:14

Fanny you can run for my dsis' organisation and it'll cost you minimum £1500. She is trying to persuade me....

Moshi, we are here to support you all the way through your IU. You just can't get rid of us that easily I'm afraid. I managed to catch up with the whole thread last night whilst I was lying on the floor of the bathroom with terrible AF cramps at 3am. Blush You all took my mind off my troubles. Grin.

at Bonkers 'it's not even his birthday until Sunday'.

Loving the shouty motivational men and the god fearing woman. One of my best friends (male) always tells us to 'feel the pain and run on through it'. I always shout it out loud quietly mutter it under my breath, when I am going up the hills. I've yet to meet any shouty men here, however, I do see a man walking to work every day in full suit and briefcase and wearing a diving mask. Really.

Sfx gosh that running teacher is amazing. I don't know how people do that.

I have just done some hill work, accompanied by a 9 year old. He whupped me on the last hill. I too consoled myself bonkers with the knowledge I am veteran. We veterans should stick together in the face of whippersnappers.

DrNortherner · 05/10/2011 19:15

I am PMSL at paws 'Lets fucking do this' man. I would love it if I saw a guy like that. There are some nutters at your gym Grin

In my town we have a famous guy known as 'naked runner' he runs in only a pair of tiny black running shirts regardless of the weather. He is such an exhibitionist and has been known to run circuits around and around our BMF class, I think he even has his own FB page.

Lol also at bonkers dh asking if her buttock is pert! He only wants one pert buttock?!

And Moshi with your 'impending upheaval' you sound like someone from Pride and Prejudice about to give birth Grin

orangehead · 05/10/2011 20:16

Thats awful about your friends sfx and paws Sad.
Glad a decision has been made moshi, hopefully you can't start to feel more positive about it now you know what you are doing.
I pretty much the same with confidence and find it hard to see myself as a proper runner. Rather than mantras such as I am stong etc I find just telling myself I can do this better. Occassionally when I know no one around I say 'I can do this' under my breath, hearing myself say it has more of an effect than just saying it in my head Blush.
Dh was not fully on board about me running at first just because we always so busy, but he is loving the effect it has had on my body an goes on about pert buttocks (it has to be both) too. So he fully on board now Grin and Blush. No too sure he bothered about the running gear itself though.
Wiifitmama I too have been sprinting when doing intervals. I find it hard to gauge my pace either normal run or fast run, this is why I really need a garmin.

fannybanjo · 05/10/2011 20:37

master are you considering it?

rhetorician · 05/10/2011 20:41

I love 'help me Jesus'; it just sounds so desperate. I find, bizarrely, that singing songs helps - just in my head, but the effort of remembering the words to long ones takes my mind off what my body is doing.

DD takes great delight in singing the Grand Old Duke of York when I am flying toiling up the hill on the bike.

AM baby sitting DN tonight (Weds usually the only weekday that I have a glass of wine, due to not running on Thursdays and no teaching :(), and there is a diminishing large pile of mini Crunchie bars. I am ravenous today - perhaps due to all the exercise I'm doing (about 25 miles since Sunday, plus lots of cycling)

alas, sadly, I am going to do work...

peachsmuggler · 05/10/2011 21:38

Moshi, glad the decision is made. Am sure the planning and sorting will give you a buzz (albeit a bit stressful!) and you'll get swept along in the excitement of it all. Which are will you be living in? How are the lids feeling about it?

Lol at not a real runner paws, running her second marathon in a year this weekend. You are awesome, don't forget it!

DrNo, those splits are seriousy impressive. I think you may have found your calling, if not as a superstar runner, then maybe as a compression sock runner!

It's weird Reading about everyone hitting walls, how they are approxhing speed training etc. and I am thinking, I can't remember any of this! It's only been a few months and I can't remember what kind of runner I am. Will find out in January I guess!!!

peachsmuggler · 05/10/2011 21:42

Christ, I made a right arse of that post.

Moshi, I meant what area will you be living and, and how are the kids feeling!!!

DrNo, I meant a compression sock model!

Too many sp errors in the last paragraph to amend.

Note to self - Do not post when tired.

DebiTheScot · 05/10/2011 21:55

I love this thread Grin

The scary treadmill runners almost make me want to join a gym!

And I'm so glad I'm not the only one with a sex obsessed dh. Actually I'm not sure it's the sex obsession that's a problem, more the need to grope me at every opportunity. He'd also go for my arse if I was bent over anywhere. He only ever has a conversation with me if I'm in the shower (and it usually ends with "can I get in now too?") He also loves my tight running shorts and I daren't wear a skirt.
Sorry I'll shut up now before I go too far!

I was wondering if compression socks would help my shin splints but was qute glad to google them and discover that there's no evidence that they do as I was also thinking I didn't want them as it'd make me look faster than I am!

Speaking of what makes someone a runner I was reminded of a couple of people who did the 10k on Sunday. It was a small race with only about 140 runners so we got very spread out. The last few runners to complete took nearly 1.5 hrs (1 of them is in his late 70s or 80s and does Parkrun every week in about 35 mins) and I was so impressed that they'd finished it. They must have worked so hard, especially in the heat, and were probably quite lonely. I thought they deserved a prize more than the winners.

rhetorician · 05/10/2011 21:57

peach that's because even your fingers are pregnant! you've about 6 weeks to go, right? DP is right grumpy and uncomfortable and finding handling C quite hard I think. I am grumpy and tired because I have to do everything I am being as supportive as I can. I am sorry for her - her hip is sore and she can't sleep properly.

Dp thinks that running is for nut-jobs and mostly just complains about stinky kit (although she does do most of the laundry management in our house, so that's fair enough really) although she certainly supports my running habit.

peachsmuggler · 05/10/2011 22:20

Ha ha, yes 6 weeks on Friday Rhet. gulp!

Am not too uncomfortable yet, but so very tired! I will swap you for my DP, as I'm still doing pretty much everything! Cut the grass on Sunday at the end of which he asked (from the sofa through the window), do you want a hand? Well, eh, yeah, but it's already frickin' finished!!!!

Have been sorting through literally hundreds of little pieces of clothing that belonged to DD. Just obscene amounts of clothes. No doubt people will buy us more when DD2 is born. What do you do with them all???? Am thinking I should be taking loads to the charity shop, but can't remember how many clothes babies wear, probably quite a lot given the piss/shit/puke quotient...

rhetorician · 05/10/2011 22:25

we have 8 weeks to go on Saturday! were you early or late with DD1? we have strange stuff - loads for some age ranges, and none at all for others (I think roughly correlates to the periods where we had given up on the idea that no. 2 was even a possibility. Long story).

I think how many you need depends on (1) how pukey your baby is (2) how high low your standards are. We have one notable babygro from when dd was tiny (6 weeks, maybe) with a big red winestain on it Blush.

We've done nothing. At all. DD keeps referring to herself as a baby , as in 'this baby wants to go to sleep'; 'this baby doesn't want to read that book'. Hopefully she is processing it all now

backwardpossom · 05/10/2011 22:27

Rhet I sing songs in my head, too. Sometimes I mouth them and that seems to help too. I must look like a right flange when I'm running...

rhetorician · 05/10/2011 22:33

'flange', now that's a good word! I sometimes do that as well - and most of the songs I sing are ones I sing with dd, so you can conjure the unedifying sight of a 45 year old woman, frowning (usually) whilst singing 'do you know the muffin man?;

sfxmum · 05/10/2011 22:39

article on Marathon training

peachsmuggler · 05/10/2011 22:50

DD was born day after her due date, but waters broke 3 days before that so didn't get anywhere near being overdue. Am assuming this baby will be on time too but no idea if it works that way....How bout you guys?

Tee hee at wine stain. Yes, my standards are fairly low...

Lol at "this baby". DD is the opposite, always banging on about being "a big girl". As in "this bed is the right size for a big girl", and "When I was a little girl and went to playgroup I did, yadda yadda yadda"

am trying to get the few practical things out the way. Washing clothes, sorting out pram, ordering mattresses) so I can devote the next few weeks to freaking the flange out about what it means to having a little baby about again. What do you DO with them?!?!

Pawsnclaws · 05/10/2011 22:56

So exciting, all this baby news! I feel quite broody at the moment, think it's because ds3 seems now to be a proper toddler and beyond the baby stage.

My DH is also a randy old goat quite excitable. I've been accused before of putting on my shabby old dressing gown in a "provocative" manner FFS! DH said a while ago that because we're getting on we need to get lots of sex in now before, as he put it, "my willy stops working". He's not that old!

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 05/10/2011 22:59

I'm mega broody too, Paws, and have been since DS was about months... We're definitely not going to leave waiting to TTC much longer and have talked about trying again after Christmas. So we'll see...

backwardpossom · 05/10/2011 23:05

about 6 months

DebiTheScot · 05/10/2011 23:10

pah babies, I can take em or leave em. They just don't excite me that much anymore. And I only realised that on Monday when a friend came round with her 3 month old and I wasn't desperate for a cuddle.

DH and I just had a complex physics discussion. Annoyingly it turned out he was right and I was wrong. And tomorrow I'm going to have to tell my years 11s that I haven't marked their tests because I was too busy talking about physics Grin
