The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

You know Marnie - you are so right, maybe we have lost sight of what we have achieved, and got too caught up with what we are trying to achieve!

I couldn't run to the end of the road (100m) when we started Blush and now I have corners!!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/07/2011 20:07

and you are fab too Marnie!!

I'm feeling the love on the thread tonight.

I ran in the rain, it was great, ran further than last time before I had to have my song break. I will try to work out how many runs it will be before I can do it without stopping. I reckon probably about 6 - 2 weeks! Ouch! Obviously I am so slow that I look as though I am in slow motion but never mind.

5k in 30 mins is going some. I may get there one day, I may not. Probably won't in all honesty. Never mind! I started on the first day of the school holidays last year so a week today I will have been running for a year (on and off!). I cannot believe that I can run at all. I agree that we are all fab for doing something to get moving. Big claps all round. Hurray!

Keep on running everyone.

BearGryllsBra · 18/07/2011 20:37

I agree, we are all FAB! Still cannot believe I can actually run, albeit slowly. Where is sweatybrawearer by the way, and DubaiPieEye and Supersal? Maybe they're here under another guise somewhere.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/07/2011 21:04

Am currently listening to the song as I write this Bear and I am soooooooooooo feeling the love!

Pistey hugs ((((((((((everybody))))))))) xxxxxxxxxx

Mwah mwah mwah Pistey and everyone! Love is all around!

at your unmnetty hugs!

happilyeverafter · 18/07/2011 22:42

Mwahs to you all, I am feeling less inadequate about my distance, will time it all this final week and see if I can get any closer to the magical 5k/30.

Does anyone run with a stopwatch?

sweatybrawearer · 19/07/2011 00:44

helloooo all - I'm still here and enjoying the thread and the lurve. Haven't done any running though, and haven't a clue about what I think might be The Apprentice.

Marnie - I'm your American friend Grin. I found one of my colleagues on a thread and told her that I'd spotted her, so had to namechange. Bear was in the middle designing her special runners' underwear, so I became bearsbrawearer for a few days, and settled on this because of the weather Grin.

JelliBelli · 19/07/2011 21:01

Hi All, plenty of lurve going around to night! Mwah!

Didn't mean to seem like a show off in my last post Sad.

Pistey I think you are right - this sums me up completely "maybe we have lost sight of what we have achieved, and got too caught up with what we are trying to achieve". Wrists duly slapped Grin.

Happily I have run with a stopwatch since the beginning and measure by time or distance every run. [light bulb emoticon] I think I may have hit on two factors as too why I don't always enjoy the running despite doing so at a 'respectable' speed. Food for thought for me......

Running later tonight - when it dries up a bit hopefully. Confused

LinzerTorte · 20/07/2011 06:45

Found you all again! We got back from holiday yesterday and I've finished C25k. Grin I didn't go out until 8.30 am the first time I ran and the heat almost killed me, but it was much more bearable when I forced myself to get up and go out at around 7 am.

I've done one 5k run since I finished the programme, which took me 33.5 minutes so "just" need to shave a few minutes off that time (easier said than done, I suspect). I miss Laura's encouragement but it's good to be able to listen to my own music; it's been interesting to see what everyone has on their playlists.

Hope everyone's OK - I've skimmed the first few pages of the thread (very quickly when it turned to talk of The Apprentice as we're still waiting for my parents to send the DVDs of the last few programmes). Must try to get out for a run soon as I slacked off towards the end of our holiday, but it looks like work is going to be very busy for the next day or so.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/07/2011 06:55

Morning lovely Running Friends...

I'm off later, hopefully mid afternoon, and when I hear on my playlist I will probably laugh out loud again!! Sing along if you like Grin

DISCLAIMER......I am NOT SAYING anyone has a fat arse on here - except meeeeeeee, but I have corners so I don't care Grin

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/07/2011 06:59

well done LinzerTorte too - you go girl! I haven't seen the Apprentice final yet as DH is away and I have amazingly managed to avoid finding out!

OP posts:
JelliBelli · 20/07/2011 12:40

Well done for running on your holiday LinzerTorte - the sign of a true runner Grin!

I didn't get to run last night as DH was to run with me and was hoping to get home much earlier than he actually did. So I ran this morning on my own instead and I equalled my PR of 30.00 min for my 3 miles so I am firmly ensconced in the PRSP Blush.

Hope you all do well on your runs too

MarniesMummy · 20/07/2011 13:26

This week I've been re-doing the c25k from w1 on days inbetween my 5-7k runs with mates (I'm trying to build up the stamina to run every day) and blimey oh riley!, stopping before you've been through the 10 minute pain barrier doesn't make for a fun run. (It is lovely to be back to Laura chattering away constantly to motivate me to run though).
I'm finding it quite hard as my body gets upset if i ask it to run anymore than 3 days in a row.

Hi sweatybrawearer, I know you. How's the running going for you?

JelliBelli · 20/07/2011 13:39

Blimey MarniesMummy! That'll be loads of running! I am not surprised your body doesn't like it - i think mine would have packed its bags and left me stranded!!! Have you considered doing a workout DVD instead of the extra running? It would still give you something to do but but could tone and strengthen your upper body and torso to completement the running leg work.

I can recommend Jillian Michaels (as I am a Shred graduate and do one of her DVDs on each of my 4 non-running days) but I am fairly sure Notyummy (and others i presume) does others but I can't remember whom. She'll be along soon, I am sure, if you are interested.

happilyeverafter · 20/07/2011 15:34

Marniesmummy I can recommend the shred. I alternate shred/run with low impact cardio like spin/cycling/swim. I swear I cycle better when i have swum the day before.

First 30 min run last night, went well and ran faster than usual but gutted as imapmyrun app only logged 28 minutes, so I didnt get an accurate distance.

Thanks jelli, I think I will avoid the stopwatch and focus on enjoying the time I am out. I use apps but don't check them until afterwards so they do not interfere with my run.

Hope you had a good run pistey!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/07/2011 17:25

Whoop! Whoop!

I've beeeeeeen and am baaaaaaaack in Post Running Smug Phase. It was really goooooooooood, and I did 5K, still off the pace, but who cares???? I can run 5K and I have corners and good music!

As I was really flagging, right at the end and my legs had turned to lettuce, Mr Blue Sky came on and really lifted my spirits, and I thought of my running chum Sweaty!

RedAmberGreen · 20/07/2011 18:09

Hello everyone, can I join in?

I started the couch to 5k about 4 months ago and got to about week 3 before suffering with sciatica. Lots of physio and £500 later i'm now ready to give it another go. I did the race for life but walked it so my physio has given me the green light to try running again.

I've managed to force persuade my DH that I really want need an ipod touch instead of my nano. I've bought an app which lets me use my own music instead of the dodgy NHS music, I'm hoping my own music will help to me keep going.

My DH is also going to start it with me but with our 3DC we'll have to do alternate nights. We both need to lose weight and i'm hoping we'll get competitive and spur each other on. I've got about 5 stone to lose so I avoid going out to run in bright daylight Blush

You all sound like you're doing so well, i'm still not convinced I actually run at all, it's more like a jog Grin. I'm off to dig out my hammock of a sports bra and sort my playlist..... hopefully posting here will force me to start tomorrow......no excuses!

BearGryllsBra · 20/07/2011 21:02

Helllo RedAmberGreen and welcome to our merry little band of runners! Well done on getting started, and good luck tomorrow - before you know it, you'll be running for 30mins. I know it doesn't seem like it now, but trust me, the programme works and you will come to love it Grin and we are all here at various stages to help you on your way/kick you up the bum. You need a capacious bra like mine, The Bear Gryll of Bras, with pockets for keys, ipod, phone and inhaler Wink

Am Blush that I've not been out this week and also Angry at myself for being such a BigJessie because I hate going out on my own - my running buddy is on hols. But I am thinking of braving it tomorrow morning. Will be setting out my kit tonight, so that I can just get up at the crack of sparrows and run before anyone else sees me. Then will be in PostRunningSmugPhase like Pistey and the others.

Well done to Marnie, Jelli et al with your shredding, 10K etc., I am trying to skim read your posts as feel like a lazy sloth compared to you in awe of you.

Happy running one and all and RedAmberGreen, have a look upthread for songs to put on your playlist to motivate you ... Mr Blue Sky, Single Ladies and Fat Bottomed Girls all a must, the last one especially for me!

happilyeverafter · 20/07/2011 21:52

Welcome and happy running RedAmberGreen.

LinzerTorte · 20/07/2011 21:53

That's a good idea about getting your running kit out tonight, Bear - I think I may do the same as it's been five days since my last run and I've just finished and sent off the work I had to do, so no longer have any excuses.

Hi Red, sympathies on the sciatica as I had it in my first pregnancy and it was awful - I could barely walk. Glad you've got it sorted out now, anyway - good luck with your run tomorrow.

Well done on your runs Jelli and Piste; you both deserve to be smug. Grin Will def. have to download Mr Blue Sky; I really need to sort out a running playlist.

I don't know how you're managing to avoid finding out who won the Apprentice Piste - it's difficult enough here, and we don't have British TV or newspapers. I'll have to stay away from the Internet next year too!

Jelli / happily I keep thinking about doing the Shred on my non-running days but haven't got round to ordering the DVD yet.

MarniesMummy I miss Laura's chatter - I wish there was some way of adding her voice to my own music.

Right, off to get my gear ready for tomorrow (I even ironed my running top earlier - now that's dedication!).

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/07/2011 22:36

Come on Bear, you need to be a BraveBear and go solo. Yes PostRunningSmugPhase truly is Fab-U-lous..

Yes you need to have Mr Blue Sky, Single Ladies and Fat Bottomed Girls, all make me smile and perk me up. I decided Chelsea Dagger was perfect for my running speed today and I also love 500 miles although I always think of Comic Relief so I always a bit!!

OP posts:
RedAmberGreen · 20/07/2011 22:40

Now you've all been so welcoming i'll have to get out there tomorrow and get started.

Bear I read your post and thought that this sports bra sounded great, then after a quick google realised that you were being descriptive rather than talking about 'capacious bras' like 'Shock absorber bras' Blush

sybilfaulty · 20/07/2011 23:09

I have eaten so much today that I need to run a marathon to get it off! Oh dear. A quick 40 min run tomorrow will not suffice, although it is of course better than nothing.

Welcome RAG, good to have you on board.

COme on bear, it's fun going solo.

Keep on running everyone.

Pinkglow · 21/07/2011 11:08

I dont think I can imagine running with someone else, I'm so used to going on my own!

Starting Wk 5 tonight, after struggling with Wk4 run1 I found the other Wk4 runs much much easier.
