The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

I'm back and reporting for shredding!

I will read the thread and catch up on everything I have missed. We were in a holiday cottage in the middle of nowhere last week with no internet, so I couldn't tell you all that we got out on the last flight before the hurricane. I didn't manage as much running as I hoped last week, but we did quite a lot of walking the days I didn't run. I'm now home in a very empty and quiet apartment - DH is with DS's in the UK until Thursday. I am missing them already Sad

GettinTrimmer · 05/09/2011 09:56

Has anybody done it yet? I would say be careful with the positioning.

I just did level 1 day 3 but no running yet, that's tomorrow!

LinzerTorte · 05/09/2011 10:25

My Shred DVD is still in the packaging... I had lots of good intentions about starting today, but the DDs have been back home from school for almost an hour now, and tbh I'm not exactly brimming with energy after four hours' sleep.

However, the main aim of our trip has been fulfilled and I am now the proud owner of a bottle of No. 7 Vivid Violet. Grin The christening went well too. Smile

sweatybutslightlysmug · 05/09/2011 13:12

Yay Linzer! Glad to hear you got your priorities right!

My alarm just woke me up at 8 am here. I was planning a long lie in to make up for all the early mornings and running around I did last week, but obviously it was not to be. But I need to venture out to get milk and bread before I shred.

BsshBossh · 05/09/2011 13:28

Completed W3R1 this morning. Wow, I didn't realise Laura was expecting me to run two lots of 3 mins - that was a shocker. Did it though! Hurrah!

I've got The Shred still wrapped up. I will wait until I have finished the C25K (or C230Mins) programme first. I can see that it's the perfect thing for me to try as soon as I put DD to bed (she's 3yo so goes to bed at 7-ish! Long may that last!). However, I think I may want to try yoga before Shredding because this running lark is making me realise how inflexible I am and at 41yo I am getting rather stiff!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/09/2011 13:31

Hey Sweaty!!!
Don't forget to draw the blinds before shredding!!
I am due to run and shred today Confused

and respect to Linzer for her priorities!!
Well done Bsssh too Grin
It is all good.

Blush

Haven't done it yet - have had enormous problems with back to school timetabling and the like with my girls, so Killian has had to take a back seat I'm afraid, while I sort it out. Am very cross and frustrated. Angry Grrrrr.

Well done Pistey, you've taken one for the team! And hello sweaty, welcome back into the fold! Linzer, well done on your new acquisition, mission accomplished! Hurrah Bssh - she's a cheeky monkey that Laura. Wait till W5R3 when she suddenly suggests running for 20 mins non stop!

I AM going to do the Shred, there just might be a bit of a delay .... of several weeks Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/09/2011 16:36

Bear if it is any consolation I haven't got to run or shred today. First day back for me and the children and I haven't even been to the loo yet I've been so busy Confused

I am starting tomorrow. I really am and I do feel frustrated...Sorry for your angst - sounds like you are having a bad time - hope it is sorted soooooon.

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/09/2011 16:38

Was this how you sneaked in Bear?

OP posts:
sweatybutslightlysmug · 05/09/2011 16:39

And I have been using all sorts of delaying tactics like doing the laundry and tidying DSs' sock drawers Grin.

Have given myself a hearty brunch and need a lie down before I consider moving again.

(Bear, did your parcel arrive? I didn't manage to get to a post office until Saturday morning. The village we were staying in was five houses and a phone box).

LinzerTorte · 05/09/2011 16:58

Sorry to hear about your back-to-school problems Bear; how frustrating that you've had to delay the start of the Shred. I'm also starting to wonder if I'll be able to fit it in this week; the girls are at school for a whole three hours tomorrow (and then four for the rest of the week), but it looks like I'll be snowed under with work until next Monday. I keep telling myself it's only 20 minutes and I'll feel better for it and it will make me more productive, but I'm also feeling a bit fed up. I know how you feel too, Pistey; I don't even have time to put on my new purple nail polish to cheer myself up.

sweaty Brunch and a lie-down sounds good. Smile Actually, a lie-down sounds good full stop - just have to get the DC off to bed first.

Bssh I am still a great fan of the 7 o'clock bedtime, and my oldest is 9. Blush In my defence, I always have to wake the girls up for school (and it's usually more like 7.30 pm before I manage to get them to bed); DS is the only one to wake up by himself - sometimes - but is always asleep by 7-7.30 pm. Well done on your run btw!

I WILL do the Shred tomorrow. I WILL do the Shred tomorrow. (repeat to fade)

sweatybutslightlysmug · 05/09/2011 18:48

Oh.my.giddy.aunt.

Shredded.

Going back to bed.

I might never get up again.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/09/2011 21:09

I ran tonight, definitely not back up to full fitness yes, but never mind. I am still planning to Shred tomorrow, but only if I get back from work on time, before I need to pick up the DCs. DH has just gone out so I'm going to pop the DVD on and have a look at the intro beforechangingmymind

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 05/09/2011 21:38

WhoKnows - well done on the run and good luck with the shredding.

I thought I was quite fit, but boy, did I work hard. I didn't have weights (I could only find one of mine) so used cans of beans. 0.5 kg. Not even 1 kg. My arms were shaking doing the exercise where you lie down and bring your arms together above your head. My arms and shoulders are aching now more than my lower half, although I could feel it in my legs as well. The cardio bits had me puffed out too!

I can see it being quite addictive though, even though at the time I wanted a ticker counting down on screen to tell me how long I had left Grin.

vanimal · 05/09/2011 22:18

BsshBosh you have scared me now! I completed W2R3 today, and did not find it too bad at all, particularly when W2R1 was just soo difficult.

But she is upping the stakes next week then, and is going to make me do 3 whole minutes?! Fingers crossed for that one - eek!

This thread is very motivating though, I spend most part of my runs thinking up things to post after I have finished that morning's running :)

shreddedandnotatallsmug · 06/09/2011 03:07

vanimal well done on completing W2!

I am hurting even more now. And have succumbed to the lure of amazon.com and bought some pink 2lb weights and some pale blue 3lb weights for when I get good at shredding to replace my Trader Joe's organic chick pea and kidney bean tins latest sporting accessories.

BearGryllsBra · 06/09/2011 08:54

Morning fellow Shredders and runners, I am seriously impressed by your efforts, weights and tins of beans! RL has sort of taken over the past few days (grrrr....) but I'm here cheering you all on in the background and will be back to play soon.

sweaty you little angel, postie not been today but THANK YOU so much - will email you when I get back from work. You are a little <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=star&hl=en&safe=active&client=firefox-a&sa=G&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&biw=1024&bih=407&gbv=2&tbm=isch&tbnid=kwZLK66kUagmIM:&imgrefurl=www.sherrier.leics.sch.uk/starweek&docid=mmvQlfVtxs14XM&w=600&h=585&ei=PdFlTs_cLsaw8gOPhMj-CQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=129&vpy=71&dur=133&hovh=222&hovw=227&tx=133&ty=128&page=1&tbnh=114&tbnw=117&start=0&ndsp=11&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">star.

OTheHugeRaveningWolef · 06/09/2011 09:53

Completed W4R1 today. Where has the time gone? Feeling quite pleased, as so far I've stuck to my Tues-Thurs-Sat running schedule despite some horrible weather, a bout of period pains and nearly breaking up with my fiance.

And I'm on track - I think - to be able to do 5K in 30 minutes! A circuit of my local park is exactly 2.6K, and even with walking breaks between runs I'm now doing the circuit in 18 minutes. So if I can keep going and build up enough stamina to do 2 laps at this pace then I'm on course for a 30min 5K Grin

There is no way I'm touching that Shred though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2011 13:43
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/09/2011 14:34

Whoknows is shredded....

Much to my amazement I quite enjoyed it, although it was hard. I had to stop a few seconds short of the allotted time in places to get my breath back, and my thighs weren't quite up to the amount of squatting required, also had to run out and fetch a towel for mopping brow halfway through (I did pause the DVD).

I've got a new plan for getting my running speed up, which is to work out the speed I need to be running over 30 minutes to do 5k, then repeat the whole C25K doing the running intervals at that speed instead of the very slow speed which I did it at the first time. If it works I hope to get through faster than one step per week, maybe aim for two steps per week.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/09/2011 14:52

I shredded!!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/09/2011 14:52

But I must run too!!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 06/09/2011 15:02

Well done WhoKnows and Pistey! I'm going to go for it now (as soon as I've unpacked all the shopping) - will have to do it in front of the DC, but needs must!
