The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

And your purple nails Pistey. Don't forget. I see you're learning to knit, wish you were near here and I'd teach you to crochet and drink lots - did you see my grannies? They're all on my profile for a bit.

I second Pistey with the C25-30mins - I've not managed it yet either but to be perfectly honest, I'm just happy I can or could run for 28 mins non stop, in any time.

Welcome back sybil, glad you had a good holiday but sorry you've been feeling poorly nothing compared to how you will feel in a couple of weeks time with the builders in. Wink

I think I am going to have to have an extension before I start Shredding because (here come the excuses) our sitting room is much too small for energetic activities. But I will give it a go and try not to break anything or fall through the floorboards or shock neighbours with my Jane Fondaesque impersonations. Grin

vanimal · 02/09/2011 23:01

W2R2 - done! It was much easier than I thought it would be, after a week off. I still puffed, but not as much as last week, and I am really looking forward to the next one now.

I am abroad for work next week for 7 days, I'll take my trainers and carry on the momentum. Although I am doing just 90 sec runs, this is more than I have ever done before, so I am really pleased with my progress so far apart from not having lost any weight yet

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/09/2011 09:30

Brilliant Vanimal - yes def take your kit and keep the momentum going. Well done.

Bear - yy to the purple nails Grin Amazingly I still have my New YorkGood-For-A-Porn-Star-name Merry Midnight going strong which I love more and more now I know how unlikely it is to find again, being so rare and all!

I've just seen your lovely granny squares, I'd seen one but didn't realise there were actually lots on there. Gorgeous! You are very clever. Yes I am learning to knit. Blush and it is making me swear freely. I learnt as a Brownie

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/09/2011 09:49

Pistey - lots of good videos on YouTube of how to crochet.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/09/2011 09:51

Now I'm over excited.... I have just reserved the last set of weights here, squeeeeeaaaaaaaallllllll I shall probably have to aspire to the purple 2K ones but at least they are PURPLE!!!!!!

The only things I'm missing are the purple leotard and matching scrunchy and leg warmer combo......

Oh, and I need to take the plastic off the divvy-d

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/09/2011 09:52

WhoKnows - thank you! But isn't it really really hard?

OP posts:
BearGryllsBra · 03/09/2011 11:13

Pistey they are divine! Get them. they will complement your porn nails.

Crocheting is easy, honest Pistey. I taught myself last year from youTube videos and this lovely website, and have crocheted allsorts now, ripple blankies, granny blankets, scarves, pockies all manner of nonsensical colourful woolly wonders. It's much easier than knitting I find, and quicker, for although I can knit albeit not very well, I can't correct any mistakes (dropped stitches and the like) so it looks a bugger when I've finished. Mistakes in crocheting are easy to fix. Do it. In fact, shall we do it instead of The Shred? Glad you like my grannies though :) and email me some pics of yours, I am sure they will be lovely and very much appreciated. at extreme sport Grin

And yes I did see the photos :( very, very sad.

Where has GettinTrimmer got to? Is she shredding as well? I am DREADING the SHREDDING. I think I will be extremely rubbish at it.

Sweaty, yooo hoooo, where are youooooooooooooo?

vanimal - well done on taking your stuff with you, that's an excellent idea, well done on your progress too :)

GettinTrimmer · 03/09/2011 11:28

I am here!!

Just done level 1 day 2 of the 30 days shred - at one point Jillian says "if you're thinking of shutting off this dvd - don't even think about it!"

It is hard, but I can vouch for it as doing the job. When I did it last year everyone commented on how toned my arms looked. But I have let things slip.

Anyway, I have done quite a bit of running in the past, I went for a 20 minute run a while back at a snail's pace.

Impressed at your crocheting bear. I keep meaning to pick up my knitting needles again, I didn't think I remembered how to do it until someone gave dd a learn to knit kit.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/09/2011 16:03

Hello lovely GT - are you putting yourself back into the C25K programme?

well sssssssssssssssssssqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll I got purple weights!! Well the 2K one is, there is a green 1K pair ( to match my face when I'm about to vom) a pink 1.5K set to match my face when I get too hot) but happy days for the purple set Grin

Joins Bear in a howl for Sweaty

I really want to crochet - there is all sorts of stuff - I'm seeing yours and also the ones Knotty does and they are so clever - she does flowers and stuff, and all in about 5 minutes. I've spent ages on my square - it is more plain, than plain on a plain day and I've only managed a third Blush

Has anyone actually been running? Grin

BearGryllsBra · 03/09/2011 18:34

at the Coyotes howling Pistey, I have just snorted tea down my nose Grin. Glad you've got your weights, they will make a huge difference, mine are pink Angry, green Envy and purple too.

Welcome GettinTrimmer! Did you wear purple legwarmers and a scrunchie today then? Does it make it easier if you wear purple things? And when she says to me, 'don't even think of switching it off', I fear I might be telling her to 'feck off'. And I've only watched the intro ......

Running? Running? Are you MAD woman?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 03/09/2011 19:20

Haven't been running - but have re-painted my toes in a deeper shade of purple. Am feeling sad as I have lost my lucky purple hairband.

Pistey - I really want to crochet properly too, I don't find the stitches hard, but concentrating on counting them and following a pattern is much harder for me, probably doesn't help that I try and do it while watching TV. Also I don't actually want a houseful of crocheted things, but the occasional hat for DD or Christmas decoration would be nice. The other big problem is working out whether you are using a British or American pattern, with the confusing stitch names. I have not volunteered for any MN blankets at the moment, as none of the recipients have been posters I know or have followed the stories of, but it is a lovely idea.

mollycuddles · 04/09/2011 09:34

Hi all. Very impressed at all the shred preparing. I've not been doing my mini abs and arms workout at all. Work has been horribly hectic and home as mad as ever.
Attempted 10k around the streets last Saturday. Was a disaster - had to phone dh to come and collect me. Have come to the conclusion that I need to eat more so I can run further. Will slow down my last bit of weight loss but I need to run to keep it off. Bit of a vicious circle. Had a great run on Thursday -5k. Going to try 10k again this am. Eek. Dh will be on standby.

Keep on running everyone.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/09/2011 09:43

My trainers are looking reproachfully at me.
Actually it's worse than that. They are giving me Evils.

Well, no run for me today unless

a) the rain stops - non stop downpour all morning
b) DH gets back from work at a reasonable hour

Saving my energy for the Shred (gulp!).

GettinTrimmer · 04/09/2011 12:33

I am planning on going for a run tomorrow after doing the shred Hmm

What trainers does everybody have? I need to invest in a new pair.

Good luck with the shred to all new starters!

sybilfaulty · 04/09/2011 18:09

I ran this morning but was crap. I blame the high shoes which I wore all day yesterday as I think they have made my legs ache after a summer of flats. I also had no music as I have lost my water pod and my phone could not get a signal. I had a good walk though (didn't even pretend to run for the last ten minutes).

Keep on running / shredding everyone.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/09/2011 19:26

Thought you might like this, which I stumbled on whilst looking for something on amazon just now [[http://www.thepurplestore.com/?Google&gclid=CJnKl7WbhKsCFYELfAodHyhl2g The Purple Store]

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/09/2011 19:27

oops I mean this The Purple Store

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/09/2011 19:28

GT - I think quite a few people, not me have had the gait analysis done in a running/sport shop, but they will tell you I'm sure.

I want/need the purple ones I saw in Boston, but didn't get but actually use a pair of Nike air thingies that were DH's I am going to get the running gait thing done if it isn't too embarrassing

Sybil - you know it will improve... I'm going tomorrow. I promise. And shredding.

bugger... This !!!!

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/09/2011 19:47

I had my gait analysed at a local running store, I have had back problems in the past and wear orthotic inserts some of the time, which make a huge difference (wore them full time for a few years, but don't need to so much now). My running shoes are the comfiest footwear I have ever possessed, worth every penny.

Go Team Purple!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/09/2011 19:48

Found my lucky purple hairband by the way

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/09/2011 21:39

I have taken the plastic off my Shred DVD....
