The Couch to 5k 2011 - Part 3 : Keep Holding My Hand So We Don’t get Separated!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/07/2011 23:07

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear and the music we listen to! New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

If we stick together we will enjoy success, I thought song lyrics were appropriate so in the words of Gwen Stefani.. Grin

Run, running all the time
Running to the future
With you right by my side
Me, I'm the one you chose
Out of all the people
You wanted me the most

Running, running, as fast as we can
As fast as we can
Do you think you'll make it?
Do you think we'll make it?
We're running, keep holding my hand
It's so we don't get separated

Be, be the one I need
Be the one I trust most
Don't stop inspiring me...

Good luck everyone x
Wine

linzer - I can't see your pic on my phone or my pooter Sad But was it a bit like this but without the shirt on?

LinzerTorte · 12/08/2011 09:04

Better than I thought - 5.01 k in 30 min 40 s. I was running quite slowly for the last 300 m too (I could have run faster, but was feeling slightly sick so thought I'd better not risk it) and can take around 10 seconds off for stopping to do up my shoelaces. So maybe the 30 min barrier is in sight after all.

Have just synced my iPod (still have all my music and playlists in iTunes) and still no music. Aargh.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/08/2011 09:08

No scrunchies here either, just a good old elastic band thing, will see if I've got any purple ones....

I have spent the last 2.5 years growing it from very short to long enough to get into a ponytail, I love the feel of it swishing on the back of my neck when I run. There is a bit of a back story there, I have suffered with alopecia in the past and lost an awful lot of it, now it is back I am so happy, the feel of that swish almost makes me want to cry.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/08/2011 10:26

Your swishy ponytail makes me want to cry with happiness for you WhoKnows....fab news!

I want to buy you the team purple scrunchie now xx

Oh. Em. Gee.
My SHRED DVD has just arrived! I was only joking when I ordered it!

OP posts:
LinzerTorte · 12/08/2011 12:08

Still no sign of my DVD - I got an Amazon parcel this morning, but it was just books.

5th September is good for me too, as we're going over to the UK for a christening at the beginning of September and won't be back home until late on the 4th.

sweatybutslightlysmug · 12/08/2011 12:39

Whoknows - lovely story about your hair. I have had long hair for the last few years after some very short pixie cuts. The problem is my hair is thick and wavy, so I spend most of the New York summer looking like Crystal Tipps. I keep thinking that I should have it cut, but can't bring myself to.

So 5 September it is, in our matching purple nail varnish crop tops, leggings and scrunchies Grin.

sweatybutslightlysmug · 12/08/2011 12:40

Hey Linzer, sorry I missed you - WELL DONE!

BorisBearsLovechild · 12/08/2011 13:52

OMG. I have just been in to Tesco to buy some condensed milk, fresh cream, Cadbury's Flakes and digestive biscuits to make a Bannoffi Pie bananas and decided to have a look for Killian's weights.

They were heavy.Shock I didn't buy them. Even though they were purple.

BorisBearsLovechild · 12/08/2011 14:12

Oh sweaty what a relief shame Team Purple won't be able to start till 5th September :( Grin

at Crystal Tips. I too have a TriangleHead in the humid weather.

Linzer aaaargh to stupid iPod. Mine did that too but will have to consult DS to see what he did to fix it. I seem to remember him muttering darkly about me downloading latest version of iTunes when the one you had was FINE mum Hmm. Very annoying for you though as The Archers isn't the best thing to break the 30 min barrier with. But you nearly have! A whisker in it. In fact I would hazard a guess that tying your laces took longer, so you were actually around 29:59. Well done!

Pistey I like the look of Boris in the red Hawaii shorts, but would prefer him in the lycra I think. Do you know I was just thinking yesterday how we don't actually know each other, and one of you could actually be MrsBoris, or MrsBoris'sSister or something and then I would have to leave the country MN. Mind you, isn't she the editor of The Lady or something? Surely she wouldn't frequent MN? Grin

WhoKnows, your swishy ponytail is making me happy too - my daughter suffered from it, just a couple of patches when she was about eight, and it was awful not knowing if it would grow back or not. Thankfully it did. For both of you.

Been out this morning, 16 mins, then 3min walk, then 10 run so getting there. V. slow though. Bit puffy at times, and calf pain as well. Think I need to get up earlier and warm up a bit at home first.

Got to go. Mum'sTaxis required URGENTLY. Hummpfff.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/08/2011 15:48

I might actually be Boris....
Confused

OP posts:
BorisBearsLovechild · 12/08/2011 16:21

Pistey

BorisBearsLovechild · 12/08/2011 16:22

forgot the Grin

LinzerTorte · 12/08/2011 16:33

Had another Amazon parcel this afternoon, but still no Shred. I've had the two books I ordered at the same time, but there's obviously been a rush on the DVD. I suspect this thread is responsible. Grin

Bear I managed to virtually kill my iPod once by downloading a newer version of iTunes; it didn't like it at all. Anyway, problem now solved thank goodness - I synced my music manually and it has all returned, hurrah!
I want purple weights! (A Tesco nearby would be good too.) Am sure they're far cheaper over here, but we have a limited luggage allowance and lots of biscuits and chocolate to take back.

sweaty I have thick wavy hair too, which turns to a frizz whenever I go running here (wonder if it's the sea air). I was never allowed to grow it when I was a child as my mum claimed it grew out rather than down, I rebelled when I left home and proved her wrong, but it's got gradually shorter over the years now that I have less time to wash and dry it.

RatherBeKnownAsBoris · 12/08/2011 16:57

I want purple weights!!!!!!!!

BorisBearsLovechild · 12/08/2011 18:06

just opened my email:

Your Amazon.co.uk order has dispatched

Shock
BorisBearsLovechild · 12/08/2011 18:12

Hey Boris, nice moniker! The purple weights were indeed fabulicious but I was surprised at how heavy they were .... and that was only the 1k ones. Tried to look for them on the website to show you but couldn't find them but they had two types, one like a traditional handgrippy thing, and the other like which had a hole in the middle that you gripped iyswim. Think they were £7. Don't know which maybe the 0.25k ones would be best.

Think they might weigh your suitcase down a bit Linzer, you could get them when you come over for the christening though when you've not got as much chocolate stuff to carry. Glad you've sorted your iPod out.

LinzerTorte · 12/08/2011 18:50

Sorry Pistey, have only just seen your 8.51 post. In answer to your question, um... not exactly! The top half was covered, as indeed was the bottom half - although very little was left to the imagination. Wink Your computer and phone must have decided it was not a sight fit for your eyes. (Not really a fit sight for anyone's eyes, in fact.) Grin

Have just checked my e-mails from Amazon and it turns out that only the books were dispatched yesterday, not the DVD. So if your DVDs are all arriving or being dispatched, what's happened to mine?!

Bear The only problem is that we're just bringing hand luggage over to the christening, so will be even more limited than we are now, and are staying three nights in three different towns, which would mean lugging the weights around rather a lot (I wouldn't be able to leave buying them until the last day).

So what weights do we actually need for the Shred? Hopefully I'll be able to get some on Amazon, as sports shops are ridiculously expensive.

BorisBearsLovechild · 12/08/2011 19:05

Expect Jelli will know about the weights, although the ones I picked up were only 1k each ... but were heavy! No wonder I'm out of breath running if I'm lugging all these extra kilos around. Were you here when supersalstrawberry was? She shredded and ran - successfully, bet she would know. Wonder where she is now, and CalamityKate and DubaiPieEye - maybe namechanged.

Email Amazon about your DVD, I only ordered mne yesterday I think and expected to be one of the last to receive it. See what you mean about hand luggage Linzer, you could put them in your pockets though - they won't weigh you Grin. Although Airport Security might look a bit like this Hmm at you.

JelliBelli · 12/08/2011 19:26

Linzer did you check your order to make sure you have actually ordered it - we wouldn't want you to miss out would we?

As I say I started shredding with soup tins, they were around 0.4kg, then I moved up to the weights we had which are 1.5kg (3.3lbs) and later 3kg (6.6lbs) Shock . It was a bit of a jump from the soup tins to the 1.5kg but you coould use a 1 litre filled water bottle. I moved up to the 1.5kg during the first 10 days. Sounds like you could go for the Team Purple weights ladies!!!

Back to the topic it sounds like you are knocking on 30min door. Well done you.

I reckon you should smuggle place the new weights into DH's bag when you come for the christening.

Whoknows you mustn't use use elastic bands - they are enemies of your hair. Don't do itShock. Humongous celebrations forever (and also for Mini Bear) on having long hair again. I am precious about mine and would be devastated.

Bear can i come to yours to share banoffee pie your bananas? I am slightly hopeless and can't load my iPod so i have to get DS to do it for me which usually takes a while. Well done on that run despite the aches and puffyness. Are you still following the programme as I didn't have runs like that?

Hi everyone else. DH due home soon so we'll go and do some Jillianing before dinner. Happy running all.

RatherBeKnownAsBoris · 12/08/2011 19:55

My friend what is a Shreddie uses 2k and 3K weights.
Shock

LinzerTorte · 12/08/2011 19:58

I've definitely ordered it - have just checked my confirmation e-mail! (Would have been so annoyed if I'd somehow forgotten to order it - I've already managed to order the same book twice. Blush) In fact, will go and check my open orders...

Thanks for the info about the weights, Jelli. Will now have to try and find out what they're called in German, although I could always order them from the UK site I suppose, depending on postage (it's often cheaper to order from Amazon.co.uk despite more expensive P&P). Good idea re the weights and DH's bag; he'll never notice. Grin Ditto re the pockets, Bear - with the added bonus that it will turn normal walking into a walkout. Grin

LinzerTorte · 12/08/2011 20:13

Have discovered there's no need to panic - the DVD is being sent from Jersey, separately from the two books, and is estimated to arrive tomorrow. (The books weren't supposed to be arriving until next Tuesday.)

I've also found some weights on Amazon.de; they're called Hanteln in German (never heard the word before). Have even found some purple ones, but they're 2.5 kg! Not sure I'll be following in your friend's footsteps, Boris (I'm taking your new name literally Grin).

RatherBeKnownAsBoris · 12/08/2011 20:21

I may have to change my name back I think because I'll never remember I'm Boris!

BorisBearsLovechild · 12/08/2011 20:49

Here Jelli, have a [banana], ooooh I love Banoffee Pie, pass your plate ....

Boris, my one true love, is it really you? Or is it that Pistey mucking about again? Grin

Eeek at 2k and 3k weights. That's absolutely ludicrous. There's no need for that. No need at all. Surely a packet of Pom Bear's in each hand would work just the same?

Haben sie zwei Hantelns und zwei biere bitte, und eine Bordkarte Linzer?
