a thread for runners to chat, debate, share tips, triumphs (and the occasional disaster!) - new runners particularly welcome, the only thing that's required is enthusiasm (and a pair of running shoes)

I don't know....I go away for a while and you're all talking about going to pop concerts!

I've been to LA for a meeting. Should have taken my running stuff as I was awake at stupid early o'clock due to jetlag. Mind you I get soooo spacially inept when running in the US when everything's grid like. I have to keep a little map with me and basically just keep turning right (or left) to make sure I end up where I started.

Anyway, I've got a 10K coming up. I've not been running much. Hoping for a sub 49 min run. It's all road, quite hilly but nothing too dramatic.

MoshiMoshi · 01/07/2011 23:02

Good luck sciencebint!!!!! Stay relaxed and enjoy the race. You have worked for it and should try to enjoy the feeling of knowing you can complete it easily when many others will struggle to get round comfortably.

pawsnclaws · 01/07/2011 23:08

Good luck sciencbint!

sfxmum · 01/07/2011 23:56

good luck sciencebint you could always do a Paula should the need ariseGrin

YeahThatsTheBadger · 01/07/2011 23:57

Good luck sciencebint!

moshi glad your mum's out of hospital and hope she gets back to normal soon.

I'm sitting here trying to teach myself to knit as I was given a knitting kit for my birthday. How rock and roll! Smile

On the music thing, I don't think I have particulary cool music taste - I love McFly. It's makes me sing and dance and smile. But I love Ben Folds too which is quite geeky i've been told!

Planning to get out for a run tomorrow morning, (not my best time of day) as DH has another gig. Going to up my distance tomorrow I think.

Happy running everyone!

peachsmuggler · 02/07/2011 08:01

Good luck Science!!

notyummy, I think we must have been at the same Erasure concert at the Playhouse! Almost exactly 19 years ago, as was same day of Agassi-Ivanisevic Wimbledon final!

Moshi, please try not to let the guilt get to you, you are doing a great job. Best wishes to your mum.

Loving the cupcake dressing up Wheely. DD is currently to be found most days, dressed as Snow White. Why do they make these outfits "sponge clean only"? I am normally very cavalier about throwing everything in the washing machine, but can imagine the tears if it all went wrong!

Happy running everyone!

cestlavie · 02/07/2011 09:05

Gigs are maybe the one thing that I've tried to keep up (well, along with running) since DS and DD arrived - can't beat live music!

Good luck today science. Looks like a gorgeous day for it.

notyummy · 02/07/2011 10:25

Good luck Science!

Bizarre Peach- it is such a small world!

Anyone finding hayfever an issue when running at the moment? I am really struggling. Off to the pharmacist this am to see if there is anything else I can try.

Themasterandmargaritas · 02/07/2011 12:42

Good luck Science, go girl Smile

I've been out for a hilly 9k and it felt good, just before the sun came out too. If I can manage it time wise I shall go out for 2hrs tomorrow. Not quite a patch on moshi though!

June2009 · 02/07/2011 16:01

bonkers wow sub 49 sounds really good, good luck!
i wanted to do 13k today but it was getting really late and only did 11, still that is my farthest distance so far and although it was nice to stop I felt like I could have done another 2k easily.
I keep telling myself it doesn't matter if I'm slow. other than it means it takes me more time to train which is an annoyance.
next saturday i'm going for 15k depending on how i feel after our flight back to the uk.

my previous trainer was so young he didn't know who The Cure were. I asked him if he knew about The Matrix and he said :" Are you kidding I was brought up on The Matrix ... "

whoever mentionned mano negra on their FB has brought back many memories so thanks for that;)

moshi i wish i had a magic wand to let go of the guilt, you are doing so much.

science i hope you run went well, looking forward to reading about it here!

gotta finish packing and go on holiday now :) see you guys on the new thread!

Well done sciencebit - I would love to get under 2 hours so that sounds like a fantastic achievement to me. Today was warm as well.

Welcome back driving.

Spent today at school speech day, a very fancy affair. Some of the alpha mummies turned up in hats fgs! Was a nice day though and the guest speaker was Rebecca Stephens, first British woman to climb Everest - amazing speech about following your dreams and doing what you love. I did fake tan in the end and my legs were fine - one for fair skin and I put Vaseline on my knees so it didn't go orange!

Will try and get out tomorrow for a short run before my Foo pilgrimage!

futurity · 02/07/2011 20:44

great report Sciencebit and amazing time despite the heat and lack of water.

just skimming whilst waiting for holiday pics to upload; mega Pulp fan here too - saw them in about 1995 as well, and then Jarvis at the Electric Picnic in 2007 which was absolutely bloody brilliant...

as I say didn't run in south of france - mostly too hot (about 27 by 10am), although i did see some racers coming in at about midday (swoons from heat) - many of them were less than young, too. I've been thinking that I need a more varied fitness routine - so am going to revise to 4 runs, plus a circuits session and some kind of cross-training I think. Will try and get out for a bit tomorrow - my 5 mile race is only a fortnight away

Great report science and well done for breaking the 1:50 about 5 mins after you said you would Grin

I've just been for my first run since last Fri (and that was only 1.2 miles due to shins) and did 5.6 miles at 9.4m/m which is normal for me. Took first mile slow and shin was fine, second mile it hurt but then was mostly ok after that. So as long as it doesn't get worse I will do the 10k race on Wed but won't push myself as much as I had hoped to.

The Take That concert was amazing. I'm not the biggest TT fan in the world but I would definitely go again. It was a brilliant show and Wembley is a great venue. And I got an extra workout going up all the stairs!
The 4 of them did half an hr then Robbie did half an hour then they all did about an hr.
Getting home was slow though as a lorry bumped a car on a roundabout (the Hanger lane one for those of you who know the area) and it took us almost an hour to get round the roundabout and onto the A40!

bonkers20 · 02/07/2011 21:53

Well done Bint! A nice race report. Enjoy resting your legs. What did you buy in the shops?

MoshiMoshi · 02/07/2011 22:54

Well done sciencebint!

EmmaBemma · 03/07/2011 12:03

Well done science! You did brilliantly. I'd love to get a time like that but I think it's some way off for me.

pawsnclaws - sounds like an inspiring day! I love climbing stories. Going to the Dundee Mountain Film festival again this year, should be some good speakers there too.

welcome back from your holidays, drivingmisscrazy.

Well done on your long run, June2009, sounds like your training is going really well.

I did my own weekly long run through the forest this morning - 8.5 miles this time. I don't know if it was my new running gear (which was lovely and light and cool) or my mood or what, but it mostly felt really good, better than last week's 7.3 miler. Managed not to keep checking my garmin but kept the pace relatively easy and did it in 1.19, averaging 9.15 m/m. For the first time I'm feeling confident about my half marathon, I think I can do it. There's two months to go, which seems ages, I've just go to be careful not to try to do too much too soon.

No aches and pains other than my neck being quite sore - unexpectedly! I think I must hunch a bit when I get tired, going to have to watch that.
