Sorry for going AWOL, since I finished Week 9 I seem to have completely fallen off the wagon, have only managed 20 mins twice, which is frustrating. I obviously need Laura telling me what to do! I am going to try and get out again tomorrow.

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 18/05/2011 22:28

Is there an NHS 5k to 10k one? I really like the NHS one.

rowrowrowyourboat · 18/05/2011 23:22

W3R2 done yay, will catch up later.

NimpyWindowmash · 19/05/2011 10:05

KateMiddletonsEyebrows - that thing about taking 8 or 9 days to complete the week, that is exactly what I'm doing. I just can't manage to run every other day. It's partly a motivation thing, and partly practical. If DH or both of us busy in the evening, then I don't go out. I just don't fancy running with the buggy in the day (I have a 1 yr old). But I will also bale out easily - i could have easily gone out last night before dinner, but I was tired and settled into the Wine instead. I'm so weak Sad. I am going to go out with the buggy today.

sybilfaulty · 20/05/2011 07:29

Did my 5k this am, slightly slow and had to walk a bit but am slowly getting back into it. Hurray.

Hope everyone is well and injury free. Keep on runningSmile.

JelliBelli · 20/05/2011 09:57

W4R2 completed yesterday, but like Spawn was suffering with wind.

It was OK. DH came too which makes it easier as I focus less on the time as he chatters on (and I grunt periodically) which disctracts me.

The best bit was no peeing urge this time which came as a surprise and a relief Grin.

sweetboysmum · 20/05/2011 11:30

Hi, sorry I have disaappeared for a bit. My last run was last Friday, 5k, however since Sunday I've had terrible knee pain. So bad that I couldn't sleep at night, poor me :(

This has happened because of the running and if I'm honest I think the 10k the Sunday before damaged my legs. The run itself was great, but I never enjoyed the 3 runs after that. I put it down to having a bad cold, but think my body was just not wanting to respond. I've been gutted about this all week but my legs are getting better. I'm determined to get back out there running again on Monday if they have fully recovered.

It's been a learning experience for me and I think I'm not going to do any more than half an hour runs for the coming weeks. I may up the time, but very gradually. I felt amazing when I did the 10k and was so proud of myself but if my running has to suffer and I'm out of action for over a week then it's not worth it.

I'm also thinking more about my weight which can't be helping. Really need to stop overeating:(

Sounds like the running is going well for most of you. BearGryllsBra hope the foot is on the mend soon. Was it damaged during running? The bra is coming along nicely too, I also need those pants for butt control!

Hello everyone, tentatively joining thread. I've done 2 days of week 1 of the NHS podcast. The first one was a killer and surprisingly the 2nd was not too bad at all. I've got about a gazillion questions for you all, sorry.

When did you get some proper running shoes? I've given up running in the past due to shin splints and I can feel them coming on again after only two runs. Also - very short on cash at the moment, eek.

How do you know how far you are going and how fast? Can you get a 'speedometer' for running? (Can you tell I'm a novice?) I'm pretty competitive (if only with myself) and it would really help if I knew how fast I was going.

Which version of the C25K are you all using? I'm not minding the NHS one too much but would prefer my own music.

Where do you put your keys? Where do you put your phone/mp3?

I've got an iPhone, are there any apps you'd recommend.

Nice to meet you all, excited to see so many people doing this. Sorry for all the questions Blush.

sluttysbrawearer · 20/05/2011 12:13

Hello honesty box and welcome to the thread!

I went to a running shop for my shoes - they looked at the shape of my feet and recommended some.

mapmyrun.com lets you map out your route to tell you how far you've gone. There's probably a stopwatch on your i-phone (there was on my lost i-pod touch).

I used the C25K from coolrunning.com. It lets you put your own music over the top (if you've read the thread you'll know that Xanadu and Mr Blue Sky are our team songs Smile).

Some of us put our keys down our bras, along with everything else Grin. you could get an arm holder for your iphone (couple of quid from amazon.com).

HonestyBox · 20/05/2011 13:00

That mapmyrun site looks fab. Just scared myself by working out how far I'll have to go for 5k.

BearGryllsBra · 20/05/2011 13:59

Yoo hoo! Morning all!

Welcome to the thread HonestyBox, you've come to the right thread if you've looking for a capacious bra ;). Like sluttybra, I put most of my things down my bra when I'm running (currently stalled on W8R3 with a foot injury), I find it's a bit like a Tardis and I can store pretty much what I need in there. Bought running shoes on W2 as the ones I had were rubbishy trainer things. They made me run up and down the shop Shock and on the treadmill and measured my gait and all that. Agree C25K music is not great but enjoy the motiviation from Laura.

supersal you are doing so well with your Shred and your running, so sad you're not enjoying the running. Maybe it's just a phase - it is almost a full moon is it not? That's probably why ....

sluttybra are you still running raaaand your manor gel?

Well done sybil, glad you're back out there.

sweetboysmum sorry to hear about your knee. You've done fantastically well so far and are an inspiration. The week I did my foot in I had been wearing all sorts of footwear, ballerina flats, heels, wellies and Fitflops to work, so I think it was a combination of not enough support. My running shoes are great. Sadly I have been replacing the running with chocolate and that is Not Good. I might have to change my name to PrincessPoundage very soon if I don't get back out there Grin.

Well done to everyone else who has managed a run, hope I'm back out there on Monday, have a good weekend everyone.

Tuggy · 20/05/2011 14:03

Whoop Whoop I did 20 minutes. You should have SEEN the grin on my face!

What an achievement... if anyone had seen me in week one hobbling/waddling along for 60 secs at a time they'd have been slack jawed at the sight of me finishing 20 mins

Sore muscles today right enough... but wow. so satisfying!

NimpyWindowmash · 20/05/2011 14:48

HonestyBox - I really recommend the Couch to 5k iPhone app by bluefin software. It measures your speed and shows you a map of where you've been. You can choose your own music to play and it just interrupts the music briefly to tell you to run or walk. It's very simple, costs 1.79 but then a bit extra to add in the gps feature. You need to opt in for the gps if you want the speed and map features. I was using an arm strap for the iPhone but have learnt from the wise ladies on this thread that it's much easier to shove it in your bra!!!

I've done W3R2 and W3R3 on consecutive days. Yay! Can I have a gold star?

HonestyBox · 20/05/2011 15:25

Seems like bra is the answer Wink. Hmm, need to sort that out as well. Joggers nipple and shin splints here I come. Thanks for the advice, I can't believe how hard running is. I'm in awe of people who can run for 20 minutes without stopping - don't think I've ever been able to do that and I used to be a dancer Shock.

BearGryllsBra · 20/05/2011 17:16

Tuggy, hurrah, well done! I dreaded the 20 mins one, but the sense of achievement after I'd done it was tremendous, I had a smug look on my face and didn't shut up about it all day. In fact I'm still astounded that I did it Grin

[gold star] x 10 for Nimpy, well done!

Honesty stick with the C25K and you WILL do it, I know it is said often on this thread, but really truly, if I can do it, anyone can, especially a Darcy Bussell type :)

SpawnChorus · 20/05/2011 18:37

Tuggy - well done! Tell me all about it. Was it Really Hard? Were the eight minute runs good preparation? And were they Really Hard? How fit were you feeling on week 3? I've just finished W3 and can't imagine running 8, let alone 20 minutes.

mollycuddles · 20/05/2011 20:20

Hi all. Not been out since Sunday. Getting some stuff done in the house so been total chaos but will go out tomorrow morning. Well done to all of you :)

sluttysbrawearer · 20/05/2011 23:36

Bear - no, I'm back in NY. got back Weds night and have not run since. Was planning to this evening, but someone put a glass of wine in front of me at work, so I gave in Grin.

BTW, I'm sluttysbra in honour of your inventiveness ('cos I'm wearing your bra), rather than sluttybra (although I probably have some of those too) Grin Grin

rowrowrowyourboat · 21/05/2011 11:11

Hi All did W3R3 last night and it was a good run again.

Honestybox I got my running trainers before I started (to stop me wimping out) but I got mine from TKMaxx for £25, so kind of a half way house if you see what I mean, when I running properly than I'll look at getting a pair fitted - I'll have to go somewhere else to get it done hence to wait, that and the cost. I have lanyard for my key, which I shove into my bra to stop it bouncing and I only have an ipod shuffle which I clip to the strap, I don't think my bra has the capacity for much more sadly Wink.

SpawnChorus · 21/05/2011 11:20

Just back from W4R1 and it went really surprisingly well. I was amazed at my increase in stamina. Feel glowy and virtuous now Grin

instantfamily · 21/05/2011 16:01

Honestybox: Shock Absorber is the answer to the bra dilemma. Mine makes me feel like I am in armour but nothing moves underneath it. I love it.

Tuggy - well done. I felt like you about my first 20 consecutive minutes! and it gets even better, that's the great part. As for soreness: are you stretching after the cool down? I have run a couple of times with a friend who didn't, so I thought, oh, well, I won't either, and I was really sore after. When I have stretched I've never once felt sore.

Well done all.

bluebump · 21/05/2011 19:38

I went on my run with my marathon running friend, I managed a 4 minute run downhill and then from then on it was a minute here, two minutes there etc and so hard after a 4 week or so break! My trainers hurt, I was too hot and everytime I walked I felt cooler and my feet hurt less so I am going to dress better and my friend is lending me some decent trainers and we are off out again next week! I looked bright red when I finished (50 mins) and she hadn't even broken into a sweat!! Grin

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 21/05/2011 21:18

@SpawnChorus - me too. W4R1 done. Was hard but good; so glad I did it (didn't want to!)

sluttysbrawearer · 22/05/2011 03:52

Well done spawn. That virtuous glow is good isn't it Smile

I had a dreadful run/walk around the park today. It was hotter than I realised when I started, and I went further than I thought I had. Then the heavens opened and it tipped down, so I ended up running home. I got completely soaked, and regretted going out in shorts Grin.

I checked my route on mapmyrun.com, and it was about 7 miles altogether (I didn't run all of it). I'm suffering big time now - calves, thighs, ankles, feet - everything hurts!
