Hello all. I did my W1D1 session today. I knew I was unfit but it was a bit of shock. Still I got to the end. Am feeling a bit more human after a soak in the bath!

I'm more interested in losing the 2 stone I've put on since stopping smoking last year and getting fit, than being able to run long distances but maybe that will change.

Lots of inspiring stories here!!

Bleurgh. It's rubbish when plans go awry. I hate when I don't get to do my run. Today I only managed 30 mins as ds was late home (forgot to charge his phone). Dh went to collect him frommthe train and he wasn't there as had started walking home. Bit of a palaver. My run was cut short so we could eat early before settling dd2 in her cot. She's been a nightmare all evening - I'm blaming teeth but who knows - and is only just asleep. I am knackered. Run was good though even though it was short.

midtowner · 04/05/2011 13:52

lol at supersal's capacious bra. Mine is so tight I can hardly get it on and off, let alone stuff anything down it!

I went out this morning and got caught in a downpour in the middle of the park - more Mr Black Sky than Mr Blue Sky today.

PistyNoMates · 04/05/2011 15:03

Mine is so tight the first time I thought I wasn't going to be able to breathe! So when I shoved my ipod in there it was all tucked in nicely and certainly not going anywhere! Have been running at lunchtime, did about 4K which is my happy distance I think these days. Bloomin hot though.

CalamityKate · 04/05/2011 16:40

Did another half hour last night Grin

Tried "Pose" running Pose Running last night - it's meant to be good for avoiding sore knees and shins. It went well - the most obvious advantage was that I seemed to go quite a bit faster with no more effort than normal. Also, my knees feel better than they have for a while!

Op tomorrow. No running for a while. Boo :(

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 04/05/2011 18:04

W1R2 done Grin

any recommendations for ipod headphones? Mine are a bit rubbish. I need to drown out the (at this stage imaginary) jeers of passing cars. It was the biggest hurdle last time I attempted to run - I'd be doing well and feeling great, then a car full of baggy-jeaned morons would yell 'run forrest run' or 'go on, fatty', and put me off my stride.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 04/05/2011 19:21

Oooh lots to catch up on. Hello everyone and welcome newbies to our merry little band of runners with bras stuffed full of accessories Grin. supersal - keys as well? I'm impressed! Will try to wedge mine in there as well on Friday ....

Good luck tomorrow CalamityKate, hope it all goes well for you. Will have a look at this Pose Running, I'm intrigued.

Did W7R3 this morning at 0715 - there was flipping FROST on the ground! Just ignore the WhiteVanMen KM'sEyebrows, they are probably well jel (can you tell I've been watching TOWIE?!) of you being able to do it. Well that's what I like to think. They do gawp a bit though don't they? Numpties. I'm just using the headphones that came with my iPod.

Happy running!

rowrowrowyourboat · 04/05/2011 20:23

W1R2 Yay!

I am very jealous of those of you who can carry your goods and chattels in your bras Wink

mollycuddles · 04/05/2011 22:54

I bought some panasonic running headphones from eBay. They clip around my ears as the other ones kept falling out. I clearly have weird ears!

melodyangel · 04/05/2011 23:06

I would rather like to be able to fill a bra with norks let alone ipods and the like!

SpawnChorus · 05/05/2011 07:58

Did W1D3 last night. Was v tired and didn't feel like it, and I don't think I covered as much ground as in the previous two runs, but felt great when I'd finished. I used the Robert Ullrey podcast...loved it. I guess his and my musical tastes must be "of an era".

molly - I think I might have to get some of those earphones. Only one of my earphones keeps popping out. That's worse isn't it? Mutated AND asymmetrical.

NimpyWindowmash · 05/05/2011 10:50

Still haven't managed to do W1R3, and feeling totally pathetic. My excuses are, I was quite busy yesterday and probably walked about 6 miles in all, and was tired and grumpy by the evening. The day before that I had a tennis match, and the day before that I didn't want to wear myself out the day before my tennis match. Ok, it's a bit lame isn't it. Oh dear. I'm going to try and do it tonight.

CalamityKate · 05/05/2011 12:36

Hi all!

Well the operation went well. I got there at 7.30 this morning, they did my op at 10 and here I am home. I might go for a run this afternoon!

Not really.

They cancelled it due to the fact I've got a dreadful cough (although oddly I don't cough at all when I'm running) and they were worried I wouldn't be able to cough "effectively" after my op, because it would be painful, and that I might get pneumonia.

So. Bad news - I've got to wait for another date. Good news - I can carry on running for the time being Grin

As for the "Pose" - well, my calves and ankles are KILLING me - but my knees are much better! So I think I'll try and adapt it so that I'm landing more softly (which will help the knees) but not so much on my forefoot that it hurts my calves.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 05/05/2011 19:28

Awww Kate, you poor thing. Mind you better safe than sorry and like you say, you can keep running! Still got to check out the pose ....

Grin at melody and the norks - I would like a little less norkage!

Hope you manage to get your running mojo back Nimpy. A tennis match was probably more than equal to W1R3 exercise wise, so don't feel :(

Well done SpawnChorus (btw I love your name!)

Tomorrow brings W8R1 - I still really cannot quite believe I am typing that!

sybilfaulty · 06/05/2011 07:55

I did 3 miles last night, but in a very stop start fashion. I need to get a bit more regular. DH is off today, so I might slip out this evening as I am working this weekend so won't get ano chance to do anything til MOnday.

I think I might need to enter something to motivate me as I am takin excuses right left and centre at the moment not to do anything. I shall look into race for life.

CalamityKate · 06/05/2011 09:49

I'm managing 30 minutes fairly easily now. The first 10 are the worst, but once my breathing/rhythm settles down I feel great. My speed seems to be picking up naturally, too, as I get fitter.

A few weeks ago, I was breathing in for 3, out for 3 by the end of the run, but I'm now breathing in for 4, out for 4 - much easier and less laboured. So I push myself to go a bit faster until I'm back to in for 3 out for 3, then slow down a bit if I feel too knackered, then speed up again for a bit and so on. Basically back to interval training - but rather than walk/run it's run/run a bit faster!

Going to start the One Hour Runner programme I think; keen to run for longer and hopefully burn some more calories! Grin

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 06/05/2011 10:06

Phew! I'm back. Jings sah help mah boab it was like wading through treacle this morning. I just couldn't seem to get going and felt like i was barely moving. My ankle, knee, calves and thighs were all giving me jip, felt like Granny Mutch. And we were passed by a school bus full of grinning, shrieking, gesticulating teens Blush. I did it though, 28 mins, but at a snail's pace ....

Sybil 3 miles is fab, well done!

Kate if I start to think about my breathing, I fear I might stop!

CalamityKate · 06/05/2011 19:59

LOL Sal I do that ALL the time.... Grin

I had my gait analysed this arvo. Turns out that my right foot a) Rolls inward more than my left and b) The arch is flatter than my left.

So that probably explains why I've had more soreness in my right leg, and particularly the knee.

So I went to JJB's and bought some stabilising running shoes. Down from 80 quid to 40, with the added bonus that they match my running leggings perfectly! LOL how shallow am I?

rowrowrowyourboat · 06/05/2011 20:17

W1R3 done! God it's stick tonight, even the breeze is warm.

FriedSpamButty · 06/05/2011 22:17

I did W1R2 last night and it was so hard. Much harder than R1. I can barely manage to run for 1 minute so can't imagine running for 3 minutes or more.

Please tell me it gets easier. 5K seems like a fantasy right now.

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 06/05/2011 22:44

W1R3 done. Bloody MP3 ran out of battery, so I had to make it up, counting elephants. On the upside, I probably ran for longer than the plan suggests, as I was so worried about 'under-running'. Onwards and upwards, week2 bring it ON.
