More space for us to talk about our progress on the C25K programme, the highs, the lows, the hills, the rain, our pelvic floors and our choice of running music!

All are welcome on this international thread, stay with us and enjoy success Grin

It was hot wasn't it sybil? I went out at eight thinking it would be cooler. Nice breeze though and plenty of wildlife this morning - lots of rabbits, magpies, swifts, horses, and a buzzard. No lucky black cat today but saw a big tail-less ginger tom in hot pursuit of a rabbit!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/05/2011 09:37

Lovely to see new comers! And everyone is doing so well.

Hills are officially the work of the devil. Fact. Grin

Just wondering if anyone takes a water bottle when they go. I've seen
Loads of runners with them, but I don't. I get a stitch if I drink and run. I'm always v thirsty when I stop. I always get a massive heat rush too!

OP posts:
mollycuddles · 02/05/2011 10:46

I don't bring a water bottle either. Dh who has done a fair bit of running in his time says he wouldn't bother until running for an hour or more. So it'll be a while. I'm really thirsty when I finish too and mega hot but then I'm freezing an hour later. Poor body gets a bit confused!

I'm off on a cycle ride with dh and the 3 dcs in about an hour and didn't manage a run yesterday as dd1 was all upset after a party she was at so we played cluedo together instead of my run. Doubt I'll be up to running after the bike ride but it's all exercise, right :)

midtowner · 02/05/2011 12:23

Morning all, good Q about the water bottle piste, as I was wondering that yesterday. I went out under-fed and under-hydrated and felt rubbish. Managed 5 miles, but wasn't timing myself. I stopped at a water fountain in the park and was glugging away like someone who had just crossed the Sahara and made myself feel quite ill. For me it's getting the balance between having enough water on board when I set off, and not needing to stop every five minutes for a wee.

Calamity - hope the gall bladder op goes well - let us know how you are if you are up to it.

Slutty - thanks for the breathing info. I'm the same, if I think about it I can't do it. I think I breathe in an out through my mouth...

molly - have a good bike ride Smile

CalamityKate · 02/05/2011 16:01

Thanks for the good wishes everyone Grin

SluttySlut - all being well I should be home by teatime. I've got to be at the hospital at 7.30am (gulp) and unless they don't operate until late in the day, I don't think I'll be staying in.

Apparently it's a minor-ish op - keyhole surgery, 3 little incisions, no stitches (well, dissolving ones but none that have to be removed).

Fingers crossed I'll be running again soon!

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 02/05/2011 17:33

Have just started taking a bottle of water with me (pain in the bum to carry, really annoys me even though am barely moving only running for 25mins), but we leave it on the second bench along the lane as we run along and collect it on the way back. Nowhere to go for a wee along the way unless you want nettles stinging your bahookie Grin, so drink it on the cool down walk. Hate carrying anything, stick my iPod in my capacious bra, along with my inhaler, just in case. Blush.

Hope it's not too long before you're running along again Kate, and it's not too painful - you'll need lots of cosseting, trashy magazines and chocolate to recover!

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 02/05/2011 17:34

Hello piste! And hope you had a fun bike ride molly.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/05/2011 17:52

Hello Slutty!
Ouch to nettles stinging your "bahookie!"

I used to stick my ipod in my bra - I thought only I would do something like that! I now have a strap on thing for my arm, it's not as good. Grin

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/05/2011 17:53

And I carry my inhaler in my hand but think people must think its a rape alarm/mace spray!!

I swear we are practically twins !

OP posts:
SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 02/05/2011 19:37

Indeed we are Piste Grin - I started off carrying my inhaler in my hand but it was annoying me the other day and interfering with my snail's pace speed, so I tucked it down my cleavage ....

I do believe I run a tad faster (I may be deluded) with all my accoutrements tucked in my corsetry - there's no fear of things falling out with my humungous norkage to keep them anchored!

rowrowrowyourboat · 02/05/2011 20:48

Hi another latecomer to the c25k-ball. Did W1R1 to day and just want to sign in so I have someone to stop me sloping off to eat biscuits support me.

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 02/05/2011 21:13

And another newbie....

Signed up for Race for Life on 2nd July, which means, if I want to run it (and I do) I have to be on track with a 9 week C25K programme.

Have downloaded the NHS podcasts, and I did my first 'run' this evening. It was ok, given that I'm 4+ stones overweight and haven't exercised since before my last pregnancy (baby is 6 months old).

Hoping to get W1R2 in on Wednesday. Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/05/2011 21:22

Welcome you two. If you stick with it, you really will achieve the 5K. The programme is amazing and really does take you through. The support on here is fabulous, everyone has good and bad days, but it's good to do this in our running group. Good luck!

OP posts:
KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 02/05/2011 21:28

Thanks RatherbeOnThePiste. Hello rowrowrowyourboat - we can do this! :)

NimpyWindowmash · 02/05/2011 21:30

Hi other newbies. Let's try and keep each other on track. I'm planning to do W1R3 on Wednesday. Will check back and see how you're doing.

mollycuddles · 03/05/2011 07:25

Hi newbies. C25k really works. Focus on just doing it. Speed will come. Katemiddletonseyebrows - I've just over 2 stone since I started running. It's great :)

Had a lovely bike ride yesterday - I had dd2 on my bike and she fell asleep. The wee pet! Now we're planning another trip this weekend. Have to get in training as going on a family cycling holiday in 8 weeks. Working this am (wish the bank holidays could last longer), ds and dd1 back at school. Hope to get out for a run this afternoon. Hope everyone has a good day.

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 03/05/2011 09:13

Awwww cute molly :)

Hello rowrowrow (I'm singing it in my head now), welcome and well done on getting started. Piste is right, it's a great programme and it definately works, even on me! No more Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit 's! Well maybe just one with a nice Brew to revive you now and again ....

Welcome KMEyebrows too - well done - you WILL be able to do it, if I can then anyone can! Also like the WiseOldPisteMyTwin says, you have good and bad running days, we all do, but blethering on here to everyone helps you realise you're not on your own, and the next run will be better.

Nimpy, hurrah on W1R3, you're nearly on W2 now, well done!

Will report back after run tomorrow morning (0715!!! - back to work after lovely Easter hols).

rowrowrowyourboat · 03/05/2011 10:17

I hoping to do W1R2 tomorrow as well so hope to be in to catch up. Thanks for the support, I used to be quite active before DDs (ex-rower) but as DD1 is now 3.5 that was a fair while ago and now I need the kick to make time to get out and do something.Grin

sweetboysmum · 03/05/2011 13:14

Hi it's nice to see some other newbies here now. Like the others have said, if you stick to the programme you can do it. I am still amazed that I am able to run for longer than a minute.

CalamityKate, sorry you have to have an operation. My friend had the same procedure and in the long term has felt so much better for it.

I've been struggling dealing with running in the heat and trying to cover up at the same time. I've come to the conclusion it's impossible so am just wearing a loose fitting t-shirt and an arm band thing to keep my phone/key in. Got that from Tescos.

Yesterday I ran for 10 minutes and nearly gave up because my legs were so sore. I didn't want to give up but also don't want an injury, so decided to sit in the park on my legs and stretch out my shins for a while and see how they felt. It did the trick, I started again and ran for another 30 mins - my longest run so far at 40 minutes with a wee break! Went out today and ran for another 40 minutes.

Today was the first time I really let my mind trail off and think of other things apart from just the running. I took in the scenery and just enjoyed the run. Since starting I don't think I have lost much weight yet but I feel more toned and so much more confident. I am so proud of myself too. I haven't felt like this for years.

melodyangel · 03/05/2011 13:33

wow well done sweetboysmum!

Well managed 30 mins but not quite 3 miles.

Can I add wind to the work of the devil list please?

mollycuddles · 03/05/2011 16:21

I'm not fond of wind either - especially as it changes direction so I am running into the wind on the way out and still running into on the way back - or is that just me???

Waiting for ds to get home then off out for a 45 minuter. Last 45 minuter was brill so this one will prob be horrid.

calamitykate had my gb out 3 years back - felt better really soon after. Imagine it'll be a few weeks before you're running again

melodyangel I haven't got near the 5k in 30 minutes target but no matter

well done on your long run sweetboysmum

rowing - wow rowrowrow - always fancied rowing but was never fit enough - at uni the rowing types were always yum :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/05/2011 16:34

Rowrowrow - my DD is a current rower!

OP posts:
SpawnChorus · 03/05/2011 16:49

Hi folks. I've just started C25K and thought I'd drop in here for some moral support. I've done the first two sessions of Week 1, and I'm feeling surprisingly stiff. I guess pride comes before a fall...I'd been sniggering with DH about the 60 seconds running and 90 seconds walking. I thought I'd breeze through it, but was quite sweaty and a bit gaspy by the end. Weird cos I do quite a lot of cycling (school run with three small kids aboard).

Anyway, my lower back and right foot instep are particularly suffering, which is disappointing as I bought new trainers at the weekend in an excellent shop (sort where they really look at your feet and video you running etc).

Sorry, I'm wittering. I'm like this when meeting new people at parties too. I end up wittering on and on while my chat-victim glazes over, thinking to myself for pity's sake STFU woman.

rowrowrowyourboat · 03/05/2011 17:52

My Dh is still a rower Grin, back before Dh and the lure of the duvet I would row six days a week and in summer was averaging 50-70k a week. Now I'm struggling to do anything really active, school run and the odd bike ride, but even that is less than a while back as I can't ride with both kids on the bike now and DD1 isn't entirely safe to ride along side and isn't that fast either, but she's only 3.5.
