More space for us to talk about our progress on the C25K programme, the highs, the lows, the hills, the rain, our pelvic floors and our choice of running music!

All are welcome on this international thread, stay with us and enjoy success Grin

I am a runner now!!!

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 20/03/2011 11:23

Oooh I've missed so much!

Yorkshire - well done you! and yes, I did W2R1 Friday morning - I am determined to do this as I'm such a lazy cow and need a boot up my bahookie. I found it was quite hard doing the 90 seconds (don't laugh!), was puffing a bit and my friend seemed to be going so much faster than me. But I thought back to the great advice on this thread, and just went at my own snail's pace and carried on. So pleased I kept at it.

Piste - hope your knee's a bit better.

Sybil - Good luck today!

Hope those of you who are poorly are feeling better today, and you all have a lovely weekend with few aches and pains. W2R2 tomorrow in my new running shoes - will they make me go faster I wonder? Grin

ClenchedBottom · 20/03/2011 11:48

Yorkshire - yay! That's fab! 5k [faints emoticon]

Well, I'm just back. After a gloomy start to the day, the sun came out and it just seemed daft not to give it a go, so I did a W3 run to see how things felt, and it was great, felt so good to be running again ( actually, faints at self emoticon, I never thought I would be saying that!) - the last 3 min run was harder work but it all felt fine and very manageable. Am so glad I started out with a W3 though, think that's boosted my confidence. All I have to do now is repeat all of W4 (booo!) but I still think tha'ts the right plan for me - I had found W4 really hard work the first time round. thank you all for your supportive comments, it helped me get out there again today.

It's a bit disappointing - I have a big birthday looming soon, and originally I'd worked out that by then I'd be starting W7, not W5 as it will be now, but then even that is sooooooo much more running that I was capable of this time last year!
Anyway, happy weekend running to you all, hope the sun is shining! (Although the warmer weather causes me an issue - I think I need some sort of belly bra, feel self-conscious running when I haven't got another layer over my t-shirt!!!!!!)

ClenchedBottom · 20/03/2011 11:49

ooooh - Piste, how is that knee today?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/03/2011 11:56

Lol at the big birthday CB - is it your 21st??!!

Thank you, my knee is not painful today just stiff so I shall go out tomorrow or Tuesday. I had run for 3K so better than nothing.

Good luck sybil hope your run goes well and you raise lots of money

Well done Yorkshire [booming voice from the sky] you are a runner now

clenched great to hear you got out there

piste glad the knee feels a bit better Smile

slutty keep going you will get there

Change of pace here for me today - we are off hiking in the woods with a friend and her dog, which means some different bits of me are likely to be aching tomorrow

midtowner · 20/03/2011 12:54

dubai and penguin how come you were posting at the same time? Was it early morning on the West Coast and afternoon in the ME?

GypsyMoth · 20/03/2011 13:32

question from someone who should know!!.....do you include the 5 min warm up walk and warm down walk in the final 5k distance figure???

cos i haven't been...

congrats to you crockpot!!!

midtowner · 20/03/2011 14:12

Tiff - me neither.

cubscout · 20/03/2011 14:40

Yorkshire - well done! Don't you feel great? Now you can casually say, 'oh yes, I run 5k a few times a week' and gets lots of admiring glances.

Sybil - hope all goes well today. Just feel proud you are doing it.

Piste - take it easy on the knee. Better to run 3k than no k or 5k and a knackered knee.

Clenched - yes! You got out. Must have felt good after feeling so poorly. Tell us when your birthday is and we can all give you a Wine. I'm pretty ancient (well someone else said it in response to my Lisa Stansfield) but I don't care, I feel great.

ILT and midtowner - I am not counting the warm up/cool down as the 5k. I start my app from when I start running.

How's everyone else? Actually I think we can all call ourselves runners. Lets keep on going.

sybilfaulty · 20/03/2011 15:33

I went and ran, managed to run the WHOLE 5k and did it in 35m 10s. So I am now officially a runner. Hurray.

It was quite funny that I ran across the finish line for the first lap at the same time as the winner. Scarily he had done his 5k in the time it took me to do 2.5k - just over 17m! Wow! And, though he was completely ripped and looked fab, he was in his 40s so there is hope for us all.

Well done to everyone who has been out. I thought of you all as I pounded round and felt proud to be part of our thread and giving it my best shot. Alas I finished before Xanadu came on but it was still a good feeling.

I am going to hone my 5k skills before attempting bridge to 10k. At the finish line today I was OK but tired and could not have done the same again. My aim is to do my next 5k race and see if I can get round with a bit of oomph left over.

Keep on running everyone.

ClenchedBottom · 20/03/2011 15:35

PMSL at turning 21! Erm, no..... shall we say, you could alomst double it and that would be right! Yup, the big 40 is looming. TBH, I'm pretty chilled about it, can't believe that i'm going to wake up completely transformed in every way. What a shame, it's next Saturday, which isn't usually a running day for me!
I did look back through my comments about managing to get out earlier, and cringed a little at my boundless enthusiasm for managing to run for a whole 3 minutes at a time, but I comforted myself with the fact that all you proper grown up [boomy voice from the sky] 5k runners Grin had to plod through that humble stage at some point!

ClenchedBottom · 20/03/2011 15:37

Ooooooh sybil well done! How do you feel? Surely that's got to be a huge buzz! Have a big Brew or Wine or both, to suit yourself. Am assuming you've already had lots of yummy water to celebrate!

Hello ladies can I join you? Have started running yet again and am determined I am going to keep going after week 2 this time :) tomorrow will be w1r3 and think I have caught the bug. Am dreaming of being able to do 5k.

YorkshireCrockpot · 20/03/2011 21:29

Oh bum! I don't think I have done 5k properly then. My app has conned me! Ah well, still ran for 25 mins longer than DH. Looks like I'm going to have to do some app fiddling later to get an accurate distance.

midtowner · 20/03/2011 21:40

BIG fanfare for sybil - massive well done to you!

Pah clenched, you're just a baby - younger than I am anyway Grin

Well done supersal, and welcome Ellie!

mollycuddles · 20/03/2011 22:21

Well done Yorkshire and Sybil. V impressed. I did my first 25 minute run today (w6 r3). Fine but scarily scarily slow.

dubaipieeye · 21/03/2011 04:57

I can't quite remember when I posted Midtowner (baby brain blur) - I guess it was morning here as I often log on to find MNHQ backing up - we are four hours ahead of the UK.

I am feeling great as I did my twenty mins this morning! In fact, you'll be mighty impressed to note that I actually did 21 mins as I was running without the aid of LL (lovely Laura) who had mysteriously un-synced from my ipod. I NEARLY decided to stay and home and wait til I could fix Laura (only get a short slot before DH goes to work) but NO I did it! Without music - just me, the dog and the ipod pedometer! It was thinking of you lot that got me out there so thank you Grin

Welcome Ellie, I am sure this thread will help you get there and to Sybil and Yorkshire - HOOO YAH! Sal great that you are feeling better and are back with us. Love this thread!

SluttySlutSlutOfTheSkies · 21/03/2011 08:34

Morning all and welcome Ellie - I'm only on W2R2 (tonight), and well done Sybil!

Wore my new trainers yesterday to wear them in a bit. Felt nice, but suspect they will not make me puff and huff any less. And feel guilty to boot, spending on me instead of kids. Not feeling very positive today. I mean who am I trying to kid? I'm fifty late forties for goodness sake. My days are numbered, my glory days long gone Grin. Sometimes I wonder why I bother. Maybe I should just send for all the items out of the back of the Sunday papers, subscribe to the People's Friend and be done with it!

Injections of enthusiasm welcome :)

Hi everyone - do you mind if I join you? Started last week so will be doing W1 R3 tomorrow. I am doing this on a treadmill though - do you know if it makes a difference (too ashamed to be seen out in public until I can run more than a minute at a time Grin). Also, does everyone do just 3 a week? I was planning to do every other day in the hope I could do it in 8 weeks rather than 9, or is that a bit ambitious for someone as fat and old out of condition as me?

I'm really impressed with everyone's determination and what you've all achieved so far.

dubaipieeye · 21/03/2011 13:18

Slutty

After my DS was born I was 2.5 stone overweight and my MIL told me that "it [being fat] was all I could expect now" i.e. my glory days were over at 32! I have worked SO hard with this and the 30 day shred to prove her wrong - and ta da! The weight is all gone as of today. Can't wait to see her in a couple of weeks and twirl around in my new jeans. My long and laboured point is your glory days are only over if you let them be...I nearly lost mine a full decade and a bit before you - get running girl! Grin

bladders · 21/03/2011 13:35

Hello, can I join you please. I am just about to start week 2. I used to run quite a bit, have done a few 10K, never managed to go under an hour though which is my aim. I had DD 4 years ago and have well and truly been acting like Glory Days are over (good description)since then. NO MORE. I have literally done no exercise at all since then. Am now at least 2 stone over a good weight for me where I feel happy and glorious.
So I am very much enjoying getting back into it again. I ran from my house at 7.30 yesterday morning, nothing around but birds twittering and countryside. Beautiful. I had forgotten how cheesily uplifting it feels. And how much it automatically regulates your mood, and your appetite and a 100 other things.
Good luck everyone with your workouts. I hope we all get the rewards we want and our mojo back to those who have lost theirs!

dubaipieeye · 21/03/2011 15:09

Welcome Bladders Smile. I've been alternating with the 30 Day Shred. Tis ace and I have a four pack!
