So I am just shooting from the (diary) hip here but how does Sunday 12 December sound for our Richmond Park Christmas Run? We could meet in the morning in one of the carparks, eg one by the cycle hire/golf course or one by Pembroke Lodge, for a warm-up, and then plan a nice route from there that everyone feels comfortable with. The idea is to put names to faces and enjoy ourselves, not to race around and tire ourselves out so we can't chat (the main objective). Whadayareckon? Then, for those interested, we could have lunch somewhere nice, eg a pub near the park or the café in Pembroke Lodge? Thoughts welcome!

Sounds perfect to me Moshi!

sfxmum · 24/11/2010 20:59

hello hope everyone is well

the 12th might work for me, just had a party moved from then to the 19th so might be doable must check with dh

have been going along ok but knees seem dodgy lately must be the advancing years

Wheelybug · 25/11/2010 16:29

I can't do the 12th unforetunately as we're off to see DH's family in Bristol, but obviously, if that date suits lots then I'll just have to come along to another one (provided you all get on ok, of course Grin).

A couple of 5 milers in the gym this week. Aiming for a chilly early 10K at the weekend, although currnetly having building work so the house is pretty chilly itself so it might warm me up to get running !!

Themasterandmargaritas · 27/11/2010 04:00

Hello all, sorry i've been a bit awol, time seems to fly by.

I am super impressed you are all still running in your horrid weather, total respect. We are in the middle of short rains so it's a bit difficult at times as it's very muddy.

I'm getting out and about a bit though. Enjoy the cold.

sfxmum · 01/12/2010 19:25

has anyone been running this week? I have relented and hit the gym for classes

hope everyone is well

Wheelybug · 01/12/2010 22:15

I went out early saturday pre-snow when it was -2. Felt v. proud of myself (and cold !).

I only gym during the week anyway due to childcare and am trying to not run for a couple of weeks as my feet have been hurting so trying to rest and nip it in the bud before it gets worse. Did cycling/cross training on tues and more tomorrow... snore. Would much rather be running (Plus my usual 5 miles on the treadmill burns twice as many calories as the bike/cross training combo I did....)

Goldberry · 02/12/2010 08:30

I went running yesterday as there's been very little snow here (although it's snowing right now!). I did chicken out of running group on Tuesday night though. Icy roads in the dark - no thanks!
I also did the 'bottom fit' workout from my exercise dvd too though, and could barely walk for a couple of days.
I really felt the need to exercise to let off some steam - I'd had a bit of a stressful week as it was announced that dd's school is going to close down, so there has been a bit of a scramble to find places in other schools!

cestlavie · 02/12/2010 10:31

Managed a decent run on Monday morning - gorgeously cold and bright and actually managed a pretty good time, probably because there weren't many people around and I was eager to get back in the warm!

Looking just a little too snowy right now so can't see myself making it out again before the weekend though Confused... hope other people are having more luck!

peachsmuggler · 02/12/2010 11:33

Zero running here as had cold at weekend and now t'is too snowy!

Goodness Goldberry that does sound stressful. Hope it all works out ok.

sfxmum · 02/12/2010 16:33

good to know everyone is finding ways of keeping sane Xmas Grin

I think I am getting a gym membership, I am enjoying doing other things as well but miss a nice 'alone' run probably on Saturday now

then giving blood on Monday so possibly not running until later in the week

sfxmum · 02/12/2010 16:36

goldberry hope you find a nice and suitable alternative is it primary?

Goldfrankincenseandmyrrhberry · 03/12/2010 09:40

Yes it's primary. She's only in Year 1 and it's a lovely little old village school. It's sad that it's closing, but to be honest it had been going downhill a bit because of lack of permanent staff, and falling numbers of kids. Good news is, I've got her into what looks like a fantastic school with outstanding inspection report and great facilities. So, every cloud has a silver lining!
In fact I'm so cheerful, I thought I'd attempt a festive name change. . Definitely too cold to run today though!

sfxmum · 03/12/2010 12:17

goldberry hope it goes well, I expect she will settle in quickly, lack of permanent staff is unfortunate

housebound with poorly child today, hope to have a nap, just as soon as I can convince her to take one too

peachsmuggler · 03/12/2010 17:06

Oh I am loving your festive name Goldberry!! Will need to ponder one for myself.

Good news about your DD's school, must be a relief.

No running here. Barely been out as is too much of a mission with the pram and DD can only walk so far, as she is just little. Had restorative trip to the library which was nice. DP out tonight so am going to watch a film and eat rubbish. Hurrah!

MoshiMoshi · 03/12/2010 18:17

Hello all! Running is sporadic here due to icy paths etc. Went for a cardiolates class this morning to make up for it ie spinning with pilates afterwards.

Gold - glad to hear the school situation has turned out for the better!

sfx - I too am contemplating gym membership if only to ensure I can get my sessions in! My OH won't need it so it is down to me to think about which of the local ones would work best for me and the kids. Some are painfully expensive and having not paid for a gym since I left work almost three years ago I wince at the thought of paying what some are asking!

So how many are up for the 12th...? So far we have:

MoshiMoshi
sfx (?)
Peachsmuggler

Not heard from highfibrediet who is local but am hoping she can join us before she flies to Australia.

If it is just a few of us, perhaps the run can be kept shortish and the afore proposed lunch can become a post-run coffee/tea in Pembroke Lodge to avoid eating into the day too much. Thoughts welcome!

Goldfrankincenseandmyrrhberry · 04/12/2010 18:45

I'm afraid I can't make it on the 12th. Logistically too tricky. Have a lovely time though, those of you that can make it. I love Richmond Park!

sfxmum · 05/12/2010 12:16

hello all

moshi not sure exactly where you are but going outside Richmond borough makes it cheaper, Brentford has been fully refurbished has a good range of classes as well as fitness studio, they offer a membership which allows you to use all of the boroughs facilities which means using the very nice Chiswick pool, and all so much cheaper and with a flexible contract, no yearly tie and only a few days notice for cancellation.

don't think I can make it to meet up on the 12th either, mostly on account of dh's rowing, I don't want to take it away from him as now he commutes longer for work and had to cut down on training, it would still be nice to organise something at some point

I am still hopeful of doing the Kingston breakfast run, but it will depend on the surgery date, should be January but not sure yet

happy running

peachsmuggler · 05/12/2010 16:11

Mmmm, looking a bit thin on the ground for the 12th. Maybe it would be better if we did it in January when people are less busy with Xmas things!

We could maybe all state out free weekends in January and then try and pick the one with the most people.

Still no running due to icy pavements. Hoping to go Tuesday eve!

MrsWednesday · 05/12/2010 16:38

I'm managing to get out every now and again, mainly running off road because it easier to keep my footing in thicker snow than on the pavements which seem to have turned to sheet ice.

Went for a lovely, fresh 7 mile run this morning - it's hard work getting out the door but it's so worth it in the end, everything looks beautiful and still and glittery.

Touch wood, am virtually injury-free at the moment, long may it last! Hope everyone else is recovering from illnesses, injuries and general lurgies Smile

Has anyone signed up for runs over Christmas and New Year? I'm thinking of trying to find something local to keep me going over the festive period.

HighFibreDiet · 09/12/2010 13:27

Hello all. I have been feeling really ill recently and just found out I am pregnant with number 4 Blush. I haven't told anyone in real life but thought I ought to give a reason for having disappeared from this thread. Not much chance of doing the Sydney half in May, I fear. Grin

I am afraid the 12th is not particularly good for me either. Dp's family are coming round for a pre-Australia meal and much as I would prefer a post-run cuppa with a few of you, I think they would feel quite affronted if I disappeared off at any point.

If anyone is interested I will be offering my racing bike on eBay soon and can send you a link just as soon as I have dragged my arse out to the garden to take a photo of it.

peachsmuggler · 09/12/2010 18:51

Congratulations Highfibre!! sorry you've not been well.

Well I must confess I am also pregnant! Very early days so am keeping my fingers crossed. Also haven't told anyone in real life, except DP of course!

sfxmum · 09/12/2010 20:41

congratulations Highfibre and peachsmugler very pleased for you both and hope all goes well

Smile

here bugs live not much running all tired and a little grumpy
but managed gym yesterday and today

Wheelybug · 10/12/2010 16:10

OOOH Congrats Highfibre and Peach ! Great news.

Still resting foot here so have done 2x gym sessions this wk - bike and cross trainer. Going to start running next week. Am surprised that I miss it !!

Highfibre - I am thinking of getting a bike but not sure I am ready for a 'proper' race bike yet which is a shame if you're selling and local ! Will have a think.

HighFibreDiet · 12/12/2010 21:36

Wheelybug, my bike may not go for very much, given that it is the wrong time of year. Do have a look at it here if you like (hope that works and hope it's not disallowed by mumsnet).

I should just add that the sickness is all entirely down to being pregnant - as with all previous pregnancies I have terrible morning sickness and fatigue, and even if I do no exercise whatsoever will probably lose weight before I get to 12 wks. Never mind. I'll try to do some plodding along the coastal path once I get to Sydney just to keep my joints moving, although I won't expect any brilliant times.

Did some of you meet up today in the park? Hope you had a good time. It was a lovely sunny morning.
