hatwoman · 09/09/2010 18:42

hi folks - guessed this would be the place I want to be...just off for a quick 5 miles

MoshiMoshi · 09/09/2010 18:56

popsy - hoping all going well and you are tapering now for the GNR. You will be fine but I hope, most importantly, that you manage to enjoy it!

tapering is goibg splendidly....in that I havent runsince sunday and am currently in my pyjamas with no intentionb of going out tonightHmm

hatwoman · 10/09/2010 11:05

O.M.G. I am picking myself up off the floor (with laughter, though I suspect there's an element of shock too). I emailed my Italian co-runner (the guy who's doing the 20-miler) and asked if he'd done much in the way of hills. "Is 3700 feet over 20 miles a lot compared with other stuff you've done?" I wrote. The reply? "I've done some with 10,000 feet so it should be ok".

I kept staring at the email wondering if I was reading the 0s wrong. TEN THOUSAND feet.

And he still has the nerve/grace/diplomacy (???)to say "As you have more hill training I expect you to finish before me".

MoshiMoshi · 10/09/2010 13:04

hat - not only is he Super Man but an Italian one at that. Grrrr!

Hi guys, thanks for welcoming me with open arms.

Moshi tis not me from your breast feeding thread I'm afraid, I have 1 ds and he is 8 so not breast fed him for a while Grin

Did 8 miles this morning with my SIL and the digs, and went very off road, in the driving rain. At one point we were in a muddy bog with mud past my ankles, my new asics are filthy! My shin pain seems to be subsiding.....

I just have that lovely tight feeling in my legs that I know they have worked.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/09/2010 18:07

Hello you lot Smile Lovely to have a new thread. Hello DrNortherner.

I've been struggling all summer with a dodgy achilles which I think started descending Skiddaw in the very early summer. I'm tentatively getting back into it now so hopefully will be a more regular visitor.

Hat - just to say - I think you're offically nuts. I don't mind walking the hills but running them is a step too far!

Good luck next week Popsy.

popsycal · 10/09/2010 18:09

saggar -welcomeback. Wasactually thinkingb of you today

Wheelybug · 10/09/2010 18:34

Hello ! Just popping in to mark my spot.

Been back running ok the last 2 weeks. Did 7 and 8K in the gym this week so going for a 10 this weekend.

Happy tapering Popsy !!

Welcome DrNortherner...

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 10/09/2010 18:49

Hello Popsy. I have a dodgy spacebar too (you're not on an Acer net book are you?) I have to press it extra hard. Grrr.

sfxmum · 10/09/2010 20:10

Goldberry · 11/09/2010 08:13

Thanks for your encouragement for my 10k, folks. I seem to have had a bit of a breakthrough breathing-wise actually (I'm sure my legs can do 10k - it was always my cv fitness in question). I've posted on here before about being an inefficient, loud mouth-breather when running. I always felt I was breathing very fast and found it hard to get enough air into me. I was checking out an article about qigong for relaxation methods and it described how to 'belly breathe'. It's supposedly very good for relaxation, blood pressure etc. I tried it while running last night and it made a huge difference - my breathing was slower and calmer and I felt much less puffed out at the end of my run. Maybe it will help me get through the 10k. Here's hoping...

MoshiMoshi · 11/09/2010 17:51

I have just entered the UK half Ironman 2011 in a fit of enthusiasm after discussing with a (childless) friend who has done it twice. Now regretting committing when thinking about the Olympic distance races I should be doing in preparation not to mention the training involved when I am already struggling for spare time... Can someone (Twink?!) please reassure me it will be fine? I am hoping to do a spring marathon after all so it should slot into the training nicely, shouldn't it...?

Not sure what happened with my "*".

hatwoman · 11/09/2010 18:20

you'll be fine moshi...(strange woman...Wink)

just popped in to say that although I'm cacking it for my 20 re distance - I haven;t done anything more than 12 for ages - I'm really enjoying running at the moment - did two pbs this week...the endorphins are going mad. got to get a long one in tomorrow morning. needs to be 16 at least I reckon. and it will need to be an early start as we are going to my mum's for her annual family get together (it's a 3-line whip)

Goldberry · 12/09/2010 17:54

Just ran 10k for the first time! I wanted to make sure I could actually go the distance before the race on 26th. I t wasn't quite as hard as I thought. Phew!

MoshiMoshi · 12/09/2010 22:29

Well done gold!

Results out. I came 4th in my age group. 26th female. Annoyingly having scrutinised the results, had I let go a bit on the first 10K I would have zipped right up the positions. Although I was worried i might blow up so held back to a steady 8 min/mile. My bike splits were good, in particular as I did no bike training! That makes me feel more confident about doing the half ironman at Wimbleball with its 52 hills! My final 5K was a commendable 21:36 so it seems my legs have got some oomph back at last. So I am reasonably happy with that. Plus it was lovely to have highfibre cheering at the start! Thanks for the support from you and your lovely sons. Did they enjoy the scootathlon? I may have a rest day tomorrow before Tuesday's interval session.

Happy running everyone!

Marking my place. I'm a lapsed runner. It's been 2 years. 3 years really. I stopped running in first trimester when I had bad case of tiredness. But I found a gym with a creche by the beach who will let me leave DS in there while I run along the beach, as long as I wear a pager (Single mum). Used to run regulary. It was very much part of my lifestyle and I miss it.

Goldberry · 13/09/2010 07:50

Wow, well done Moshi! Seaturtle - I'm Envy at the thought of running along the beach!
I'm really pleased I managed to run 10k, but it was all on the flat, whereas the Blenheim 10k is apparently quite hilly, so let's hope that doesn't slow me down too much.

Wheelybug · 13/09/2010 09:28

well done Moshi !! Great result and sounds like you'll be just fine for the half iron man.

Well done on doing the 10K Gold. If you're anything like me, who's around the same place, distance wise, as you with running - I find doing a 10K is quite a pyschological feat. I know I can do it but it always seems a long way beforehand !! I was meant to do 10K yesterday but wasn't feeling v. good so am planning to do it tonight. Oh yes - I WILL.

Hat - hope you got out and did your 12 miler.

Welcome Seaturtle - whereabouts are you ? Sounds like you're not in the UK. Good luck with getting back to the running !

bouncingblueberries · 13/09/2010 09:42

Oh you're all making my feet itch! I have a 7 week old baby at the moment but starting to feel like I might just manage a wee run this weekend...if my boobs let me! Anyone got any advice on running while breastfeeding (not at the same time obviously!)? I'm desperate to get my trainers back on and start shifting the obscene amount of weight I piled on during pregnancy!

Goldberry · 13/09/2010 10:34

Yes I know what you mean, Wheelybug. I normally measure my runs by time rather than distance, but this time I found a measured 10k run on the Walk Jog Run website. It really helped knowing I was doing a circuit so that I actually had to finish it in order to get home! I had decided I wanted to see how far 10k felt, even if I had to walk for a bit. In the end I ran the whole thing though, but slowly! It took me 1hour 12 mins, which is a very slow plod compared with all you speedy people, but I was quite pleased!
Good luck with getting back into running, bouncingblueberries. Grin at the idea of running while actually breastfeeding.

Wheelybug · 13/09/2010 11:56

Blueberries - I started running (again) whilst still breastfeeding although when dd2 was 4 ish months. I used to wear two bras which seemed to do the trick.
