Twink · 03/10/2010 18:38

Well done Wheely!! I fainted at the finish line of a very hot 10k once - that was excruciatingly embarassing so I sympathise!

Anxiously awaiting for news of Hat.....Checked website but no info yet

sfxmum · 03/10/2010 18:47

Wheely that is great well done you
some friends who run it said it had a very good atmosphere this year

MoshiMoshi · 03/10/2010 19:05

Woo hoo! Congratulations, wheely! is that your new PB?

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 03/10/2010 19:59

Thanks All ! Yes Moshi - it is a new pb - although its the first official 10K I've done.

Yes good atmosphere SFX - I think the weather helped that in a strange way !

Popsy - I'm Envy of you being able to run a half marathon (on little training).

The fainting/marathon vomiters makes me feel better ! I didn't quite lose my breakfast but just looked a fool, but at least I know I gave it my all....

C'mon Hat

well done wheely - great time.

it was GRIM today. grim but brilliant too. it was throwing it down. A lot of the hilly stoney paths had turned into streams. There is one bit of the route that's normally a stream - well that had turned into a complete torrent. although most of the time you're in the stream anyway, at one point you have to go right cross it - and people were waiting to help the next people across because the water was so fast. (the link below has some pictures that give you some idea of the terrain - but not the amount of water we had today - the "stream" in question is Grindsbrook Clough). When crossing another stream I ended up crotch-deep in water. It was wild as hell on the top - horizontal rain that felt like hailstones. At about 17 miles I was really losing heart - just felt awful. but after the last hill the final 2 miles went by quite quickly. aided by a couple of slips onto my bum. all in all it was one of the toughest things I've done - but so worth it. even Italian man said it was tough. tougher than a 2-day race he did in Scotland once. apparently.

one of the things that made me smile was the female dilemma of how to strip in a car and put dry clothes on. I decided I was too cold and wet and tired to do anything other than just do it. 2 minutes after I'd done it I smiled as I saw a woman in a nearby car clearly go through the same thought process and come to the same conclusion.

I achieved my 2 aims - not to get lost and not to come last.

pics of the area

popsycal · 03/10/2010 21:30

wow hatwoman

a legend on all counts :)

can go to sleep now knowing you are safe:)

popsycal · 03/10/2010 21:32

just looked at photos - you are mad and amazing :)

cant help wonder about Rob and Lee and their sweets though:)

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/10/2010 21:39

Oh well done hat. I thought you'd be in for a tough one when I realised it was today - the weather was awful wasn't it?

dh rang (he's a firefighter) and said there were some people missing in the river, near Gradbach I think. The air ambulance went over at about 4ish too.

Twink · 03/10/2010 22:01

You absolute star Hat, well done indeed! Grin(surely you should have had 3 targets though?!)

Superb pics, can well imagine the extra challenge today's weather brought.

Lol at changing dilemma, these days I just do it - usually in the tea queue, bra strap down sleeve etc then quick wrap in towel. Oh to be like Wonderwoman..

As Popsy said, at least we can all go to bed now!

sfxmum · 03/10/2010 22:01

Hat that is amazingGrin I am so impressed
and amazing scenery

Wheelybug · 03/10/2010 22:28

Wowee Hat - you are seriously hardcore Grin. Really well done (for the changing as well as the run).

peachsmuggler · 03/10/2010 22:34

Yayyy! Well done wheely (awesome time!) and Hat (am speechless). You should both be really proud of yourselves.

I only did 4 in the rain today so am living vicariously through you two and going to bed having felt it was a good running day!! Wink

Goldberry · 04/10/2010 08:21

Wow, Hat. Just looked at those pictures.... Lost in admiration! The scenery looks really beautiful in a rugged kind of way. Would like to go there (walking, not running though Grin)

MoshiMoshi · 04/10/2010 09:24

Hurray and well done, hattie! Enjoy this week knowing it is under your belt now.

callista · 04/10/2010 10:47

wow, well done hat and wheely, legend!

Ok so I played a hockey match and did a yoga session this weekend - was meant to go running this morning but just can't get out of bed.

Tell me off if I haven't gone running this evening ;)

Wheelybug · 04/10/2010 14:49

Anywhere I might have missed to look for last season's running shoes ? Need to replace mine and would prefer to do it cheaply !!!

sfxmum · 04/10/2010 16:21

sport shoes ? my go to discount place

Themasterandmargaritas · 04/10/2010 17:57

Hattie ShockGrin that sounded like an awesome feat, well done you. The pics are amazing I am quite Envy. How do you feel today?

I think I'd better not respond on the DFID thread in case it catches up with me. Smile

hatwoman · 04/10/2010 18:59

master - I've added my penn'orth. I didn't look at all of DFID's answers but its one on MDG 7/slums was a bit rubbish.

am feeling fine today - bit tired but ok. I did keep waking up in the night though with stiff arms? Confused. have been pondering my next challenge...)even though I said I was going to take it down a few pegs) Italian man is organising a 6-day race in Spain. I declined.

a friend of mine - who's taken up running recently - came 5th in the hampton ct 10k. how good is that? (though he gets negative points for saying something about our running being a result of mutual mid-life crises)
