Thankyou Twink. It will help me to have the support of all you lot.

hatwoman · 01/10/2010 20:35

Blush sorry for the rather long post...I'm on a bit of a high...

peachsmuggler · 01/10/2010 20:37

goldberry - hope the foot improves soon.

popsy - go on do it!!! You know you want to! I didn't know edinburgh was a downhill marathon. Will consider it for distant future for when I get round to doing marathon.

Hat - best of British to you for Sunday ma'am!

Cal - I should have been out today but hideous rain in addition to need for afternoon nap after being up for 3.5 hours during night for no reason at all meant that I failed! Sunday is a must!!

Can't remember who is doing Hampton Court 10k this weekend but have fun. I did it a few years ago is torrential rain which was kind if funny. Lovely setting and I believe you get into the palace for free after. Very funny thinking of all these bedraggled runners wandering round Hampton Court looking for cake.

MoshiMoshi · 01/10/2010 20:53

Forgive me if I forget to reply to you all.

hat - very best of luck this weekend. Getting lost in the wilderness with nothing but a fit Italian to stay warm with sounds like a half decent bad situation to be in but it sounds like you will be just fine Wink.

popsy - it's yours for a tenner! Go, girl!

wheely - good luck at Hampton!

All from me as am spinning on turbo trainer and tis bit tricky on iPhone.

popsycal · 01/10/2010 21:01

i mentioned to dh the edinburgh marathon...he reminded me that i made him swear that he would notlet me do the marathon until 2012 should i get a place

i remindedhim that idid not get a place, and the deal was for thelondon marathon andthis is something totally and utterlydifferent....

I will need to ponder.....Hmm

do it do it

popsycal · 01/10/2010 21:06

ok ....I am actually really keen moshi and dh wantsme to do it

i am panicking about accomodation as have no money and logistics...

edinburgh is only an hour on the train away....

popsycal · 01/10/2010 21:09

oh wow
look at the solar eclipse marathon

MoshiMoshi · 01/10/2010 22:29

Hurray hurray! I think you should just go for it, popsy and work out small details regarding race day logistics later. An hour away is not terribly far really.

And am pondering what to do this weekend (sports-wise) now I am not on a schedule. Missing my schedule actually but think I need to (1) build in cycling, (2) continue with extending my long runs to become looooong runs (proper ones, that is, going further than 16 miles) and (3) incorporate mid-week medium/long runs (ie 10-13 miles if time permits). Need to feel I have a decent base before I start my marathon schedule. I do have a hockey match tomorrow but in all honesty I am playing in a really minor team as I decided to avoid trials so the whole competitive thing didn't apply to my hockey. Unfortunately, the net result is that I am a bit underwhelmed at playing tomorrow.

Go for it, kitty! We are all ears to hear about your progress.

peace - none of us are doing the GSR but don't let that put you off. How has your training gone?

callista · 01/10/2010 22:59

hi kittyfoil and peacenow - welcome to the thread, and good luck with running training!

Who mentioned swimming? Maybe I should go swimming...

We're having a hockey social tomorrow night so my chances of getting up early on Sunday to train are very slim indeed!

Good luck with training/competing/recovering all!

was looking at the vlm booklet lastnight nad world records dressed up as certain fancy dress characters. I then had a dream I ran the marathon dressed as a nun :)

popsycal · 02/10/2010 06:59

could dress in a school unifrom and beat 4:14.46 and get a world record....

oh gosh what have i started!!!

popsycal · 02/10/2010 07:03

i could dress as a fruit.....
4:32

popsycal · 02/10/2010 07:43

ok moshi I a saying a tentative yes please........

eeeeeek

MoshiMoshi · 02/10/2010 09:24

popsy - email me with your details so I can transfer the place across to you. There is a £10 transfer fee which I will do for you now but if you could pay me back the tenner (bank transfer or cheque) then I will swallow the original registration fee. Hopefully that will be good enough incentive for you to focus on training for the marathon! Really happy you are going for it. Plenty of time to build a decent base between now and when you start a training schedule too!

Go for it Popsy (my bro is going to new forest this yr, brighton (where we're from) 2012 and London 2013. Then he also fancies Tromso midnight sun marathon. This from someone who was 'only going to do 1' Grin.

Feeling a bit nervous here for tomorrow (pathetic I know for a 10K !).

Hope it goes well Hat

Wheelybug · 02/10/2010 15:45

oh and, given it looks like its going to be very wet tomorrow, what do you recommend wearing (is this a silly question ?). I have a splash top but makes me quite sweaty - I don't think its going to be particularly cold so think I might just wear a vest on top or would I be better with more ?

sfxmum · 02/10/2010 16:00

wheely if temperature is like today l would opt for a short sleeve I run in the rain today and it was not cold but had to change immediately when I got home as was wet through to bra although not really feeling it while out iyswim
maybe bin lines prior to race and someone with warm top to change at the end?

Wheelybug · 02/10/2010 19:47

Thanks SFX - I think I'm going to run in my vest providing its not too chilly. My other option was a white short sleeve running top - didn't think white would be great in the wet (I may not win the race but I might win the wet t-shirt comp Grin).

Twink · 02/10/2010 20:48

All the best Hat, really looking forward to hearing about your exploits.

Wheely, I'd go with sfx's plan and be sure to strip off all top layers at the end, including bra before you put on dry stuff. Good luck!

I've pulled out of my half tomorrow as my throat feels like I've been swallowing razor blades and doing Go Ape with friends this afternoon seems to have been the final (small) straw.

Themasterandmargaritas · 02/10/2010 22:56

Good luck Wheely and Hattie. I can't wait to hear all about it!

MoshiMoshi · 03/10/2010 12:08

Am guessing it is too early to hear from Wheely and Hattie...

Played hockey yesterday and it was really frustrating as I am playing with a very lowly team in the club as I didn't go to trials thinking it would all be too serious if I played for the 1st/2nd team. But I am regretting my decision now as I can see I am going to be annoyed by how unfit and inexperienced the team are. There is the odd bit of young talent but on the whole it is a bit depressing. Not sure what to do as I don't want hockey to be too demanding as my running/triathlon/horse comes first after my family commitments, but I also want to get some decent matches in!

10K this morning which saw me very sluggish, probably due to lack of fuel in the tank but also because my knee is hurting a bit. I must focus on some physio exercises to strengthen my glutes and get the roller out of its packaging... but do you ever feel like there is just too much to do sometimes and as a result it sort of paralyses you to doing nothing?

On a brighter note, I am definitely targeting sub-3:15 at London and have found some lovely like-minded folk to glean some top tips from along the way. Especially as I do not have the time to join my local running club so am hoping this forum of people will be my running club for now!

Have a lovely (if wet) weekend all! Happy running1

Moshi, I can sympathise - personally speaking, I can forgive almost anything in a player except laziness and lack of trying, but that does extend a bit to personal fitness too! Give it another go! Is is the kind of club where you might get moved up the teams even if you didn't trial? Surely there might be people who join later in the year who are good enough for the higher teams?

It sounds like you have loads of other commitments so if you're really not enjoying hockey after a few weeks, maybe you need to leave it for another year? am v envious that you have a horse!

but do you ever feel like there is just too much to do sometimes and as a result it sort of paralyses you to doing nothing?

Yes. But I also find it hard to be motivated if I don't have lots of things on - I need pressure and deadlines to function properly, so it's a balancing act.

Was just about to do an hour of yoga and a bit of physio but am currently settled in front of the Commonwealth games opening ceremony trying to see if I can spot one of my mates!

Wheelybug · 03/10/2010 16:25

Hello ! Am back Grin. Thanks for all the good wishes.

It was wet and somewhat muddy but I surprised myself hugely and did 50:41. Although think I may have pushed myself a bit too hard in the home straight as I was retching up to the finish line - very embarrassing !

My trainers may never be the same again !

Looking forward to hear from hat
