Well done to your friend Hat. What time did he do (I don't really want to know the answer but can't help myself Grin). I know those sorts of runs aren't really meant to be competitive but I think its a shame they don't chip time them. I didn't even look at my time by the official clock as I'd taken a few mins to cross the start (although actually I was too busy retching I think Grin).

Was due in the gym today (DD in creche) but didn't fancy running so went to 'body attack'. Found my muscles were achiong more than I thought and also that I need more co-ordination for aerobics !

Thanks for the link SFX - I think Ihave to accept I'm going to ahve to get the new season's colour and pay full whack. I have boringly average sized feet and they're all sold out.

hatwoman · 05/10/2010 14:29

hi again. Just got the official results for Sunday - I didn't want to tell you my time before as without the other results it would be quite meaningless

I came 7th out of 14 women. 81st out of 95 overall. my time was 5:22. The women's winner was an impressive 3:42; the overall winner 3.04; last (who happened to be male) was 6.05. My friend was 68th with 4:44.

so overall I'm pretty pleased. Another friend - who's an outdoor pursuits instructor - says he was amazed it wasn't cancelled given the conditions.last year's winner (in brilliant conditions) did it in 2:47.

Grr, Reading about everyone's great running is making me twitchy. My foot finally feels almost normal to walk on today, but it's going to be hard to judge when it's ready to run on. In the past, I might have regarded an injury as an excellent excuse to sit on my bum and do nothing for a while, or even give up totally on whatever brief enthusiasm for exercising I was pursuing. So the good thing about my current frustration is that it just goes to show that I've finally been bitten by the running bug!

MoshiMoshi · 06/10/2010 11:37

hat - that result is marvellous! Well done! You should be jolly pleased with yourself. Am envious of your navigating skills as am hopeless without a landmark such as a Baby Gap or Marks & Spencer to go by Smile.

So far this week have been doing my usual:

AM - 3 mile cycle son to school; 2 mile buggy run daughter to school.

PM - 5 mile buggy run doing round trip school run.

Plus a bit of Bootcamp, adult ballet (loved it!), hockey training, two 10Ks (at steady pace to iron out at soreness as knee has been a bit niggly). Feeling strangely undertrained and sluggish. Could it be the after effect of my race STILL? Everyone is advising to take it easy in run up to marathon training so am heeding advice from seasoned marathoners but am a bit twitchy.

gold - hang in there. From experience, the best thing to do it listen to your injury both while recuperating and when getting back into it so that you account for it and don't bring it back on even worse.

Happy running everyone. Did a lovely 4.5 miles in the rain this morning. Muddy legs and trainers are such fun!

Well done Hat - great result !

juicychops · 06/10/2010 17:37

Hello everyone hat posted this link om my thread so thought id check it out and say hello to you all (big waving gesture)

well hello fellow runners Ive only been running since March and got up to a high weekly milage until the summer holidays came and it all went to pot. really struggling to get back into it but im struggling through. Trying to do 2.5m per evening just to get my body used to the breathing again!

Hopefully by next month il be back to my 5-6mile runs - im determined not to let the crap weather defeat me!

already feel a bit crap about the fact i didn't get my marathon place but hey ho, im sure there is something else i can apply for in the near future if i dont get a place directly through the charity i was going to run for.

Any runners in Kent? Dartford greenhithe Erith areas? worth a try Grin

juicychops · 06/10/2010 17:38

and hat, well done that run look extremely tough i hope im that brave one day!

sfxmum · 06/10/2010 19:09

Hat that is impressive, fantastic time

popsycal · 06/10/2010 21:12

fab hat

BTW
are we up for the MN Marathon again at Easter?

hatwoman · 06/10/2010 21:31

what do you think our chances are of doing something where we actually get to meet? I'd come down to london to run round richmond park with you all.

popsycal · 06/10/2010 21:38

sounds exciting.....richmond park is a little far for me!!

Wheelybug · 06/10/2010 22:11

Welcome Juicy !

Good ideas Popsy and Hat. Richmond Park great for me (and quite a few of us I think).

Twink · 06/10/2010 22:48

Hat, that was stupendous.

Will travel to anywhere to meet up, you guys have been a real lifeline and helped me to get out of bed on tough days.

passmyglassplease · 07/10/2010 07:10

morning all, I thought I would pop in to see if who got a place in the London?

Apologies for those who were unlucky, I have never won anything in my life and was not expecting to get in, but I did! Shock

So am slightly shocked as I have not done any running for a few months due to achilles heel problems. However I have started using a 24 week plan that is based on 4 days running, one day cross training and two days rest.

I would be interested to see what everyone else's training plan is?

Good luck to you all in your next race.

MoshiMoshi · 07/10/2010 11:43

passmyglass - congratulations on getting a place in the VLM! I also got in (and am trying to divest myself if my other marathons that I entered under the assumption I wouldn't get into London!) Anyway, I have been reading Hal Higdon's plans in "Marathon" and am also deep into Pfitzinger & Douglas "Advanced Marathons" (which is the marathoner's bible if you are really obsessive about running). I am leaning toward the latter's approach but will be flexible about it as I have a Half Ironman triathlon 9 weeks after VLM which I need to have started preparing for. The important thing now is to build a decent base as the schedules ramp up the mileage quite considerably and I often succumb to various injuries so the trick will be to avoid them in the process. Good luck with your training! What cross training are you planning on?

MoshiMoshi · 07/10/2010 11:45

Welcome back, juicy and steady and slow in your approach should do it.

And a big yes from me to a group thing in Richmond Park!

Happy running everyone!

hatwoman · 07/10/2010 13:01

moshi your posts just make me feel tired. haven't run since Sunday - but early week is always bad for me (long run on Sunday = rest on Monday; then dh away tue and wed which makes it hard in terms of dds) might get out later. but might be too busy having my mid-life crisis.

has anyone heard the term mimil? middle-aged man in lycra - generally a term used with reference to cycling men with mid-life angst and expensive gadgets. dh called me a mawil today - but I pointed out that I don;t wear lycra (much) so he changed it to a mawfrg - middle aged woman in fell-running gear. bit of a mouthful.[shallow laugh at the horrible truth]

juicychops · 07/10/2010 15:52

for anyone who lives near Bluewater shopping centre (like me) ive just discovered they have weekly free 4km runs on Saturday mornings! they record your times etc so you can see your progress.

Im really excited now, im going to go down there in a couple of weeks when ive not got my ds on a friday night and do my first ever proper adult race

Themasterandmargaritas · 07/10/2010 17:14

Hattie, you ran for 5 hours, bloody nora. There are a lot of lycra clad women having mid life crisis obsessions with running over here. Grin

Please slow down Moshi you are tiring me out.

I didn't get a VLM place either .

The next half for me is Oct 31st the Nairobi Marathon. Lots of people at work are doing it too, so should be a good atmosphere. Grin

Why don't we do the Mnet Marathon here? You could all come out and have a jolly holiday at the same time. Grin

sfxmum · 07/10/2010 17:38

hello

Grin

if we do go for it I shall feel the need to improve significantly by then so as not to let the home side down
then again Moshi would bring up the average
and by all mean Moshi do carry on with your focused running challenges I get a vicarious kick out of all of them

sfxmum · 07/10/2010 17:40

and congrats passmyglass

popsycal · 07/10/2010 18:25

you onow what - I would come to London....cheap train fare and somewhere cheap to stay and a night's peace!

Amd a lovely real life run:) (with drinks after???:))

popsycal · 07/10/2010 18:26
