Well, well, well....

news.sky.com/story/priti-patel-resigns-as-home-secretary-12690816

Rats deserting a sinking ship?

quiteathome · 05/09/2022 20:38

She was getting sacked anyway.

They get a resigning bonus, maybe it is more than the getting fired bonus.

So um, Braverman for that role. And JRM will still be haunting the cabinet.

God, JRM is like haunted pencil ✏️

Truss is more likely to renounce the GFA and the Protocol than take Britsin into a full out war. Then when outrage turns to violence in NI she'll send in troops, with accompanying Hurrahs and flag waving.

She'll ramp up the anti-Russia bluster as a way to make people shut up and put up with blackouts, freezing homes, massive numbers of deaths from hypothermia among old people, and schools forced to stay open despite no heating, burst pipes, and cold lunches.

HannibalHeyes · 05/09/2022 21:44

Ooh, another good meme...

Ah, so "just" a civil war then?

She's a dangerously stupid and arrogant woman. The ERG will find her easy to manipulate.

A grotesque right wing marionette

prettybird · 05/09/2022 21:47

Ds tells me that the rumours are that the heavy hitters such as there are in this cabal of cronies are refusing the role of NI Secretary Hmm

mathanxiety · 05/09/2022 21:50

A comparison with the Henrician Reformation is as apt as the Civil War analogy, @SerendipityJane.

Look at the NHS and other public services as the monasteries and then scan the horizon for the people with deep pockets ready to snap up the assets.

HannibalHeyes · 05/09/2022 21:57

The ERG will find her easy to manipulate.

She's already in their pocket. Apparently, her cabinet is likely to be 86% ERG.

She's just a puppet.

Both barrels...

An incomplete list from Brian Bilston... Grin

Nailing it as usual Wink

Some interesting if unsurprising choices. Unsurprising in that the Lynton Crosby influence continues to permeate and rot our democratic foundations from the centre. People only interested in retaining power for the sake of power probably doesn’t even have to do with lining their own pickets anymore and have absolutely f*ck all interest in running a country for the benefit of its citizens.

Well that speech was 10 mins of my life I won’t get back. I wouldn’t have thought it was possible to cram that many lies into a 10 min speech.

Farewell to the worst PM. Welcome to the one that’s going to be even worse.

Meet the new boss.
Same as the old boss.

For all the blustering and obscure Latin references he's REALLY pissed off.

Bleating about rules being changed!?

The fucking brass neck of him

It's easy to forget amongst Boris other flaws that he is a deeply committed misogynist. I mean top flight. so handing over to someone who is universally accepted to be his intellectual inferior would have been bad enough.

But a woman ?

And for all the dimness of the "Tories know what a woman is" crowd, I'll admit that when it comes to keeping them in their place, Tories know exactly what a woman is.

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/09/2022 11:22

It was telling that the dig about the rules being changed on him was virtually the first thing he said.

Well, that's depressing, isn't it? Quite impressive to find someone who is to the right of Priti Patel. And I thought 2022 was going to be a better year.

How is the food bank @Chevyimpala67?

Getting busier. 15% busier than same time last year in fact.

Last shift I had a client - a young single mum of 4 - who hadn't eaten for 2 days.
Her hands were covered in cuts/grazes (she was trying to sort out her garden) and she hadn't any plasters. Tbh at least 2 areas on her palms already looked infected. She also had no San pro and had been using tissues.

Luckily, I found a box of plasters, gave her a bag of San pro and was able to pop in a few treats in the parcel for the kids. I also gave advice on how to use salt baths for her hands to prevent infection. (Obviously, we can't/don't provide medication)

I live in a very tory affluent area.

Allegedly.

Chevyimpala67 · 06/09/2022 20:36

I'm starting to wonder how long it will be before we hear of the first deaths due to people not being able to pay for their medication?

Over 16s (19 if in ft education) not getting their inhalers/steriods?

Young babies and children ending up in hospital because parents can't afford simple otc pain meds? (Yes, this could happen... use of paracetamol and ibuprofen for example is as an anti pyretic for fever)

Chevyimpala67 · 06/09/2022 20:43

It all feels rather bleak.

Ds1 and I agree the only logical reason Truss has become PM is because De Pfeffle loyalists rigged it so. I think his supporters genuinely think she'll be SO dire they'll be begging de pfeffle to come back by Xmas...and tbh I think the party members would back him. Madness. But that's where we are.

Gotta say the result was closer than I predicted. No wonder they stopped Truss giving interviews! She was hemorrhaging support by the end.

Shapps has already fired a Salvo from the back benches. Mercer being very circumspect.

It's all going to fall apart. We have had no functioning govt for 2 months during the worst peacetime crisis since ww2.

There is - literally - nothing positive I can say atm.

And yes, I still predict a GE this winter or in the Spring.

prettybird · 06/09/2022 20:43

At least in Scotland we have free prescriptions. But we still have far too many food banks Sad

I'm wondering when the first death from cold will be reported SadAngry I can already anticipate the advice I remember from my childhood, encouraging old and vulnerable people to use newspapers to help keep themselves warm Shock ....whoever would've thought that that there would be a partial use for the free papers like the Metro Sad

One local church hall is going to be opening once a week for people to come in and keep warm.

I'm involved in a uniform bank for the local secondary school.

I'm going to offer an xmas meal to someone who needs one.

I don't know what else to do :(

Chevyimpala67 · 06/09/2022 20:53

I'm so glad mum is in the flat.
Communal heating (cheap) and obviously the flats are priority if there are power cuts.
We don't have community spaces anymore like a library where people can go and just sit in the warm.
And then there's those that can't leave their homes.
I might try and set something up but...can't really take any more roles on :(
