Well, in less than 24 hours Liz Truss will be the PM.

Yes.

I know.

We are fucking doomed.

Boris will be back by Xmas. There are too many landmines scattered around the Uk government, and Liz Truss isn't bright enough to know that - let alone spot them.

I admit it was a stroke of genius of Team Boris to have set things up this way. Had an even faintly candidate won, then it would have been bye bye Boris. With Liz Truss - master of the cheese'n'pork markets - it's merely an au revoir.

Do you seriously think BJ will be back? it seems incredible when so many MPs voted against him and half the cabinet resigned.

I'll be curious see the membership turnout for this vote.

TBH i'm getting to the stage when i no longer care... as far as the tories are concerned, they all seem equally terrible.

I think, unfortunately, that that is part of the strategy: a form of anarchy where people become so pissed off with all politicians, not just Tory ones - "A pox on all their houses" - that they stop caring - and stop voting.

Then the extremists win Sad

(....especially when the extreme right and extreme left come together in different variations of autocracy Sad).

So much winning, I can't stand much more of these good news stories. What have we done to ourselves.

That'll be the fault of remainers - again. Brexit has become like the raptures that pop up (mainly in the US) from time to time where people give up everything to be ready for that time on that day. And when that time on that day (invariably) fails to deliver, it's never because the idea of a a rapture is crock of shit of the highest order. Oh no. It's because they didn't believe hard enough. Or because God is punishing them for the wickedness of modern life. Or some other blame-swerving bollocks.

Brexiteers have had their chances. Plural. This far into the game if they can't see they've been had, they never will, and it's become a matter of faith, not fact.

I read that JRM is refusing to allow the government to fund tourism advertising abroad. Which is something I can get behind to a certain degree - you shouldn't need to advertise what a great country we have to show they world. However the reason he won't fund it is he doesn't want tourists coming to the UK. In fact he'd rather a lot of native UK subjects weren't in the UK either.

I know Brexiteers - for all their alleged wartime resolve - are very sensitive about being called fucking thick as fucking mince. But if you are a fairly normal person, with a fairly normal life, and you somehow decided that Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mogg and their ilk have the remotest interest in making your life better then I would suggest your mental capacity is so far below normal that you should be considered in need of care. And if you are a woman - the original flavour of woman - and you think they have any interest in your situation you are doubly thick.

It's grimly amusing seeing these boards fill up with people who were quite happy to put Boris and his band of privateers in power now bellyaching at how shit things are. What the fuck did anyone expect ?

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I'd lay good money on it. Now the quislings and traitors have outed themselves, the inevitable winter of damnation (reality won't matter, that's how the press will paint it) will lead to Boris - like Napoleon - being restored.

Just bear in mind that the only reason Truss will win, is because Boris isn't on the ballot paper.

My Mum used to tell me "What happens in the USA, comes here 10 years later"

I think that 10 years might be somewhat reduced.

Yep i get soooo annoyed when people say this, even the briefest of glances at labour policy should show anyone there is so much clear blue water between the parties, even if Starmer is very cautious atm.

But if Truss calls an early election, there is a good chance that Johnson will lose his seat.

Chevyimpala67 · 04/09/2022 20:14

I'll say it again;
GE this winter or in the Spring
<Nods sagely>

Lonelycrab · 04/09/2022 20:16

Although I don’t disagree that Johnson plans to come back, I can’t see how that would work.

Truss may well “hit the ground” in a few months or so, lightweight that she is and he could get back in sometime next year proclaiming he’s the messiah.

But things will be incredibly bleak by then and people will be crying out for change, not more of the same. Far too many moderate Tory voters will also be frankly offended by his mistakes, and will vote accordingly at the next GE.

Do you really think Truss will be allowed to call an early election ? Especially when Boris was rebuffed ?

The last shred of unwritten constitutionality we have is that the Monarch is needed to dissolve parliament and at the moment - with a Tory majority of 80 - there is no need for an election. With the Queen fading by the hour, it's a delicate time to pick a fight with the Monarch.

All of which being said, I'm starting to see President Johnson (no, not that one) taking form through the fog. So maybe ousting the Queen now while it's easy is the plan ?

Already the potential censure of Johnson has had it's teeth pulled.

Just recast Brexit in terms of the reformation and you have it. Truss previous Remain credentials will forever be used as proof that she hasn't truly converted to the One True Religion. Catholicism has been replaced by Europhilia in the secular tale of these islands. With Scotland (once again) cutting it's own swathe.

And with the mainstream press playing the role of the Praetorian guard, all our history is catching up with us.

Chevyimpala67 · 05/09/2022 14:00

Fuckadoodledo

As predicted. Anyone who thought we'd have a non-white PM hasn't been paying attention these past few years. Have you Rishi, and Sajid ?

Yeah.
Closer than many on the Truss team will be happy about though
Maybe this is tories "miliband" moment??

Chevyimpala67 · 05/09/2022 14:14

Did I hear right 82% turnout?

DuncinToffee · 05/09/2022 14:16

SUNAK: 60,399 (42.6%)

But how many will vote for Boris in the next election.

You know how it was predicted Boris would be PM even before the coalition ? It's exactly that same vibe now that says - like Churchill - he'll be back.

quiteathome · 05/09/2022 17:34

I would sooner vote for a big pile of horse shit that vote for Boris Johnson.

So labour it is. Possibly lib Dems as they are the usual alternative here.

At least horse shit is useful....very good for roses 🌹

I stick with my prediction: GE this winter or the spring. Truss will piss off every ally we have and - most probably like Thatcher in 1982 - take us into a War to bolster her popularity.

The depressing thing? It'll work.
