The energy crisis - school energy bills are not capped, unlike household ones.

Wait till the hospitals that were built under PFI and used interruptible power contracts to shave the costs down start going dark.

How long will a dialysis machine run on battery ?

RafaistheKingofClay · 31/08/2022 18:13

I wonder how long we can run the hospital off the generator for? I presume a while but if it broke we’d probably be fucked.

What's it gonna run on ? Oil ? Coz that is so much cheaper. (Assuming it's not been nicked as prices soar).

And unless it's actually been maintained properly and tested ... who knows ?

I must confess I didn't even know the Festival of Brexit was on, but now I do, I can consciously avoid it Grin I'm stunned, stunned, I tell you, that 17 million fervent BeLeavers haven't been supporting the festivities.

Meet the bright sparks who will be choosing the next UK PM 🤦🏻‍♀️

But Green insisted that the culture secretary, Nadine Dorries, was a fan. She “absolutely loved” Dream machine, an immersive group hallucination in Woolwich, south-east London.

From the article linked to by Elements above.

Ofcourse it is all the fault of remainers Grin

So the Mail says it’s actually the Remainers fault that the Festival of Brexit flopped - quite incredible stuff

Well if by that they mean we "didn't go" then they are damned right.

You really have to question the mindset of the people the Mail aims at, if they are so fucking stupid as to think we'd all be holding hands and singing Kumbaya after the fraud of Brexit. Fuck that. Fuck Brexit. And fuck the horse it rode into town on.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/09/2022 14:17

They seem to have been expecting 66m people to go. Which is … optimistic.

Today’s advice is how to save £10 a year on your energy bills. Hope you are all rushing out to buy your new kettles.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/09/2022 14:23

Also it’s all labour’s fault for not developing the country’s nuclear industry in the 13 years they were in power.

I haven't (yet) heard it in the wild, but there is a subset of Brexiteer "thinking" that goes something like "it's unfair that because there are so many remainers, they're blocking the will of the people" or variations thereof. This is because apparently democracy isn't just about how many people vote, but more about how badly they want something. However this was in a total circle jerk of Brexiteers, so not truly representative.

pointythings · 01/09/2022 15:05

@SerendipityJane I think 'circle jerk' is now the official collective noun for Brexiteers. Take a bow.

Only 13 years ago ? Lightweights. Even on these forums. you can read people blaming Labour in the 1970s (never the Tories) for all our woes.

And you only have to have the misfortune to catch local radio every so often to hear people bickering about boundary changes from 1974.

But also "ew"

mathanxiety · 01/09/2022 15:57

I always thought performative demonstrations were the specialty of North Korea and the USSR in the Stalin era. It seems the Brexit visionaries expected the entire UK population, barring the infirm and babes in arms to queue up and go to the Festival of Brexit. Brexit is a cult.

Brexiteers are cults too.

Grifting right until the end. Despite Panick’s advice appearing on the government website, it appears that it wasn’t requested by the government but by Johnson or his lawyers. Which doesn’t appear to have stopped it from being charged to taxpayers.

HannibalHeyes · 02/09/2022 21:06

Surely the Taxpayers Alliance will be all over this!

Unless, of course, they're not actually in support of actual taxpayers, but a shadily funded think tank trying to interfere in politics. Who regularly get airtime on the BBC with no mention of their dodgy funding etc...

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/09/2022 21:08

You’d think so, wouldn’t you?

Is there anything he actually pays for himself?

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/sep/02/festival-of-brexit-unboxed-disaster

There is simply no subtlety to the UK’s adventures in self-parody these days. Take the so-called Festival of Brexit and the criticism levelled at this £120m deceased elephant by everyone from appalled auditors on the culture select committee to visitors who somehow didn’t enjoy being forced to sit through what they were being shown. Total fiasco, you say? Appalling waste of public money, you say? Completely different to what was promised, you say? Despite having been years in the planning, no one knew what it was actually supposed to look like, you say? The people who came up with it are blaming its failure on anyone but themselves, you say? I mean … I mourn the time when a metaphor stole imperceptibly into the British consciousness instead of grabbing it by the lapels, shaking it like a rag doll and head-butting it in the nose while screaming, “I AM A STONECOLD METAPHOR, OK PAL?”

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/09/2022 09:41

Whatever happened to the Brexit coin??

I think they spent it.

So much winning, I can't stand much more of these good news stories. What have we done to ourselves.

That'll be the fault of remainers - again. Brexit has become like the raptures that pop up (mainly in the US) from time to time where people give up everything to be ready for that time on that day. And when that time on that day (invariably) fails to deliver, it's never because the idea of a a rapture is crock of shit of the highest order. Oh no. It's because they didn't believe hard enough. Or because God is punishing them for the wickedness of modern life. Or some other blame-swerving bollocks.

Brexiteers have had their chances. Plural. This far into the game if they can't see they've been had, they never will, and it's become a matter of faith, not fact.

I read that JRM is refusing to allow the government to fund tourism advertising abroad. Which is something I can get behind to a certain degree - you shouldn't need to advertise what a great country we have to show they world. However the reason he won't fund it is he doesn't want tourists coming to the UK. In fact he'd rather a lot of native UK subjects weren't in the UK either.

I know Brexiteers - for all their alleged wartime resolve - are very sensitive about being called fucking thick as fucking mince. But if you are a fairly normal person, with a fairly normal life, and you somehow decided that Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mogg and their ilk have the remotest interest in making your life better then I would suggest your mental capacity is so far below normal that you should be considered in need of care. And if you are a woman - the original flavour of woman - and you think they have any interest in your situation you are doubly thick.

It's grimly amusing seeing these boards fill up with people who were quite happy to put Boris and his band of privateers in power now bellyaching at how shit things are. What the fuck did anyone expect ?
