The border at Dover didn't used to be there. Like all processes administered by people, it will be subject to employee shortages from time to time.
It's only there because of Brexit. If there's a problem, it's caused by Brexit. Not Covid. Not the weather. Brexit.

💯

Anyone else had an electoral voting eligibility form through?
We have
Hmmm.

pointythings · 22/07/2022 21:28

I had one a few years ago, had to provide all kinds of ID to keep me on the electoral roll and they really didn't make it easy. But I'm a known forriner and only eligible to vote in local elections.

We had one last year too
Odd

@Chevyimpala67 they're reading your posts on MN and they know you're a disloyal former Remainer who will not worship at the feet of the Great Truss.

One of those "keep you eyes open" stories.

Tamara Ecclestone heist: Serbia refuses to extradite £26m raid suspect

Intriguingly the article links to the actual treaty. Which has an awful lot of "Europe" mentioned.

Chris Grey spot on again this week.

Brexit has, on any reasonable reckoning of its effects and its popularity, failed as a project of national liberation and renewal. But, as outlined in last week’s post, it has been barely discussed in the leadership election. As Annette Dittert, the outstanding foreign correspondent who heads the London Bureau of German broadcaster ARD, observes in her fine, wide-ranging essay on the coming post-Johnson era, “none of the would-be successors has the courage to question the founding myth behind all this chaos: Brexit. None of them will admit that the latter is little more than a mirage”

If we had a referendum tomorrow and people promised no border waits, whilst businesses could drop the 100’s of trading documents and once again hire workers, it feels like we’d have a very difficult outcome.

Debates to date referencing trust and being honest - wish someone would ask "when are you going to be honest about Brexit being a F*cking disaster? "

They are still debating whether the dissolution of the monasteries was a good or bad thing, so good luck with that.

Both candidates seem determined to appeal as much as possible to the worst views of the Tory party old, wealthy white men.

We can only hope they’ll dial it back once in office realising that the wider public don’t hold the same views on tearing up every kind of public regulation on health, employment, human rights, or the environment or despise immigrants (legal or not).

Is that too much to hope for?

So, the UK will only end up selling to the UK.

Alternatively, 99% of companies will continue to comply with the (higher-protection) of the EU standards in order to be able to trade outside the UK.

Meanwhile, any non-UK website will need to work out the viability of developing a UK-only version of their site.

Still, it would make sure Mumsnet isn't available outside the UK. And (more importantly) fewer non-UK sites to "confuse" the message that Rishi Sunak is the new messiah

UK chemicals sector hit by £2bn Brexit red tape bill — double the original £1bn estimate.

But @RishiSunak @trussliz persist with fiction that #brexit deregulation is net gain. Truth is, there are some gains, but more costs. #BBCOurNextPM

I think that I’ve finally figured Brexit out!

A project so clearly designed to disrupt and undermine British trade and business not to mention politics in NI at last makes sense!

Brexit was a project designed to encourage brits to to move to the continent and to help with EU job creation. Oh why didn’t I see this earlier 🤦🏻‍♀️

Daniel Lambert said the only way he could get around the “incredibly complicated” paperwork for importing alcohol was to establish a French company to export into the UK, and do the administration in the EU himself

“I am doing what the government was suggesting, which is to have a company here and in Europe to mitigate the impact of Brexit,” he said. “What I’m doing will enable me to import and export into and out of the EU within the company itself, so that we mitigate all of the cost of importing into the UK.”

Anyone watching Rish! being interviewed by Andrew Neil? Austerity 2.0 with him. Dim Truster only alternative. Dumb and Dumber. I never would’ve thought I’d find myself hoping for Truss. Thought that Sunak would’ve been more intelligent choice but now couldn’t choose between the two.

Gibraltar planning to join Schengen

I couldn't help but notice the Gibraltar govt's rationale for applying to join Schengen:

“We have more jobs than people, we need them to come and work in Gibraltar.”

At best, they were/are a bunch of deluded imperialist wannabe wankers completely ignorant about how the EU worked, ignorant about trade, international law, and actually ignorant about economics full stop.

At worst, they absolutely knew that Brexit was economic suicide for the vast majority of British citizens but threw all their collective might behind it because foreigners weren’t going to tell them what to do, they’d be protected from the worst of it (yay Stanley Johnson getting French citizenship) and would even find ways to benefit themselves.

They are all the most despicable of politicians. Only to be succeeded by some more despicable Tory politicians. Cannot believe that we’ll have two years of either Rish! or the Trusster leading this country.

DuncinToffee · 02/08/2022 10:06

They just don't care, they will be alright so fuck everyone else.
