But I think the big news is the LDs and Green gains.

It shouldn't have been quite such a big story. The right wing press is so keen on slagging off Labour that they can't see what is happening.

Last year when we had elections for Oxfordshire County Council, officially it stayed as NOC. Those of us on the ground knew that this wasn't the whole story - the NOC had been nominal with two Independents propping up a minority Tory administration. The loss of ten Tory seats including that of the Leader of the Council, predominantly to the LIbDems, put paid to that.

Surrey CC last year - 14 Tory seats lost again mainly to Lib Dems/some Greens. Yes, they still kept control but with a good chunk of their support gone.

But it's all about how Labour isn't winning back the Red Wall.

As far as I am concerned though, they can carry on ignoring what's happening.

Bloody Diane Abbott sticking it into Starmer only helps the Tories 🙄

You have to admit that Labour don't always help themselves. Now at least when Tony Blair got in he maintained tight discipline to make sure they got themselves elected.

I heard her speak once at an open air thing, possibly one of the later Brexit demos? She was brilliant. I had no idea she could speak so well.
Sadly on radio or TV she’s awful. Whatever possessed her with this?

Starmer threatened to have her expelled from the party if she showed any support for the 'Stop the War campaing' might be a bit of payback

Meanwhile, Sinn Fein are now the largest party in NI.Something which the creation of NI was designed to prevent 101 years ago. Nationalist parties doing well in Scotland, NI and to a lesser extent in Wales, Blue Wall under some pressure in the south of England, and Labour pretty much held its own although didn't advance in the Red Wall. Things do not look good for Johnson.

All for the good of the party 🤦🏻‍♀️

Shame the Labour right didn't think like that in 2017 and 2019 only want unity when they are in charge, seems the Labour left are expected to 'play nice' now that the party has been retaken by the centre right of the party

Peregrina · 08/05/2022 09:03

Today is VE day. Although with a war going on in part of it, maybe not the best time to commemorate it.

DuncinToffee · 08/05/2022 11:58

No, Sinn Féin’s victory hasn’t ‘reignited’ Brexit problems. Those problems never went away. The reverse: Brexit reignited Northern Ireland’s problems, because those behind Brexit couldn’t give a toss about Northern Ireland. Or, in some cases, worse than that.

I think that you’re much more involved in the Labour party?

My impressions from the outside was that Labour right’s concern was that Corbyn was unelectable in 2019. Given the control the MSM had and have over voting intentions IMO that was correct. Neither was Corbyn helping himself with his vagueness on Brexit and the million policies. At the time, I never read of any criticism of Corbyn by Starmer, but perhaps he was not playing nice then either similar to Labour’s left now eg Diane Abbott.

Regardless, we perhaps could say that two wrongs don’t make a right and that given the utter chaos and crises of the last two years it really is time for all of Labour to pull together for the sake of the country. However, that may be too much to ask.

Just heard that on the radio

HarrietPierce · 09/05/2022 12:37

"Times is reporting that Starmer is considering announcing that he would resign as Labour leader if he is found to have broken lockdown rules"

Is he saying this because he knows he is innocent, but it will show Johnson up for the immoral charlatan that he is and put pressure on him to resign although we know he won't ?

I just don't think Starmer will be found to have broken any rules and if he is I will eat my hat as the old saying goes.

Beth Rigby
Starmer to make a statement on the Durham police investigation at 4pm. Understand he will offer his resignation if issued with a FPN. His team adamant he’ll be cleared & this an attempt to draw line between Starmer & Johnson that not all politicians are the same
