But there is going to be a consultation on bringing back Imperial measures - which will be another group of people wasting time and money, when there are a million and one things which need to be fixed and would be worth consulting on.

The consultation is up (although it's not on the usual portal Confused)

I've not yet looked at it myself but a friend has already ranted that the assumption within the consultation is that we will revert to imperial measures and that if we're lucky and ask nicely, we'll get to keep metric measures alongside and in smaller type Angry

Anyway, here it is:

It's barking mad!

LouiseCollins28 · 04/06/2022 10:58

I voted for Brexit. As is oft pointed out on here no specific form of Brexit was on the ballot paper, it just said Remain or Leave. So did I vote for this form of hard Brexit? technically no. The more revealing question would be am I unhappy with it? Also no.

DuncinToffee · 04/06/2022 10:59

'We recognise that metric units remain essential for both science and international trade and the review will be focussed on the use of units of measurement in domestic trade.'

Expensive waste of time, barking mad covers it!

DuncinToffee · 04/06/2022 11:01

Ah well, you won Louise, enjoy it.

HarrietPierce · 04/06/2022 11:03

Global Britain- What a joke!

prettybird · 04/06/2022 11:05

The question for consumers:

For Consumers,
a) If you had a choice, would you want to purchase items:
(i) in imperial units?
(ii) in imperial units alongside a metric equivalent?
b) Are you more likely to shop from businesses that sell in imperial units?
c) Do you foresee any costs or benefits to you from businesses being permitted to sell:
(i) solely in imperial units?
(ii) in imperial units alongside a less prominent metric equivalent?

Hmm
pointythings · 04/06/2022 11:16

Those consumer questions are just ridiculous. They don't want to hear from anyone (i.e. the majority of people) who prefer metric.

The only "yes" is the response to question 1 c), which is for "all" (ie businesses, consumers and trading standards)

If an item is sold in imperial measures, should there be a requirement for a metric equivalent alongside it?

YES

HarrietPierce · 04/06/2022 11:52

Chris Grey's latest blog. Ends with *It’s true that, apparently, the consultation will include consideration of the imperial-only option, but there is not the tiniest chance that this will emerge as the policy chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2022/06/brexit-symbols-that-stand-for-nothing.html

Peregrina · 04/06/2022 12:55

I read the Chris Grey blog but when he said there is not the tiniest chance of an Imperial only option, I thought, "Don't be so sure." Back in 2000 I wouldn't have expected the Tory Party to pull us out of the EU at all, never mind one with a completely cock-eyed deal.

LouiseCollins28 · 03/06/2022 23:04

You might not LIKE the way I think but I assure you it's very consistent and I answer every question put to me (that I see)

It is very consistent, I'd agree. It's consistently ridiculous. But it's what we've come to expect, as there are literally no good answers to these questions, which is why it always comes back to the "feelz"...

My answers to
1)
a) Not to my knowledge
b) No, but for science and engineering – any area where SI units are the standard, it would be foolish to deviate from a global standard.
c) Yes.

a) No, to both (i) and (ii)
b) I would almost certainly boycott them.
c) (i) Yes some firms will use a confusion of measurements to swindle the public, so while that will be a cost to me, it will be a benefit to a dishonest trader. (ii) No
d) Yes, because I am in my seventies. But in the same way that pretending I am twenty won’t actually take 50 years off my life, this is a wholly retrograde step designed to waste time and take the emphasis away from genuine problems that the country is facing.

The CEO's from Ryan Air and Jet2 are both blaming Brexit for the chaos.

The Express is complaining about UK travellers queueing for 3 hours whilst EU ones just breeze through.

HannibalHeyes · 04/06/2022 18:59

The Express finally starting to get the message...

Brexit mega thread 7 : global Britain is looking rather insignificant.....
prettybird · 05/06/2022 10:22

Note that the Express isn't saying that it got it wrong Wink

prettybird · 05/06/2022 10:31

The Chris Grey blog was good - all about throwing the red meat of meaningless symbolism to the Brexiters - but I agree with @Peregrina that you can't be sure that the headbangers extremists won't still put dogma ahead of common sense Shock

After all, that's exactly what drove and achieved Brexit Confused

prettybird · 05/06/2022 12:41

Brexiter is inconsistent ShockWink

prettybird · 05/06/2022 13:07

Not sure if this has been posted yet but here's another NOT Brexit "bonus" de-bunked Hmm
