There's nothing misogynistic about slating Priti Patel. She's being slated because of her policies, not her gender. Hope that clears that up for you, derxa Hmm

OP wasn't slating PP's policies. They were dishing out nasty personal insults. You can make the wee face at me as much as you like. Grin

I agree with slating Priti Patel. She lies both in Parliament and direct to camera - like she did yesterday when she claimed that the examples she was given of people who were having problems being allowed in to the would be allowed in.

By her own department's regulations, they still wouldn't Angry

These are refugees Sad They are fleeing war Sad They are not "migrants" Angry

She is a disgusting example of a human being who has no empathy Angry

Yes but that's different from calling Priti Patel a diseased prolapse. That sort of talk has no place on MN or indeed anywhere.

Alls fair in love and war. Surely ?

And Michael Gove looks a little too much like Himmler for my tastes.

Grin All of this comparing the Tory government to the Third Reich is a bit much when Putin is raining bombs down on innocent civilians.

There is a school of thought that if we weren't saddled with such awful human beings as leaders (because they sure as fuck don't represent me) then what is happening elsewhere may not have begun. What with everything being ultimately connected.

I am very slightly amused as some people thinking that if the Russian people just protested hard enough, then Putin would somehow stop. Suggesting they don't see any connection to 2003 and millions of Britons protesting to their government about stopping a war. Putin and Blair have more in common than five letter surnames (goes off to do todays Wordle ....)

What with everything being ultimately connected. Yes but in your opinion which leaders have met this high standard. Who were they?

I think it's more a game of averages. Generally the talent in government was high enough to even out to slightly better than a random selection off the street.

But with the endless weeding needed to ensure no one with half a brain cell is allowed near the levers of power in case they threaten project brain dead brexit, we have ended up with a government that would struggle to pass their SATs.

Put simply, I would probably have taken a bullet for Churchill - despite having some issues with his moral compass. But Boris ? I don't care where he is in Putins black book (and you know Putin has one). He's on his own as far as I am concerned.

DuncinToffee · 05/03/2022 14:34

I enjoyed reading the comments on his latest tweet.

And #JohnsonOut is still trending.

@prettybird, I emailed you to see if I can help find extra accommodation for your SIL's family near where your DB lives, but it bounced back. I'll try from another account (you should recognise me ;) )

DrBlackbird · 05/03/2022 15:32

That GSV Random House tweet is brilliant. Totally agree with this option for getting back at Putin.

prettybird · 05/03/2022 15:33

Got your email @AuldAlliance Thanks

I know db has had lots of offers of help that can take two but they're trying to find somewhere that can take all 4. I'm in the garden at the moment, making the most of some rare Glasgow sunshine to do so e weeding but I'll respond later.

DuncinToffee · 05/03/2022 17:45

I see that Steve Baker wants to trigger article 16 but government thinks it's not ideal.

prettybird · 05/03/2022 17:55

The pervasive, insidious and invidious influence of Russia in the UK and l its desire to destabilise the EU - as we have discussed many times on here. Unfortunately we are now seeing the human impact of ignoring Russian activities. Sad Follow the money Angry

Indeed. Given the current situation, it may never be ideal. What a shame.
VikingVolva · 05/03/2022 19:29

I don't see why Article 16 is needed tbh.

EU is doing nothing militarily (NATO is the only game in town)

And diplomatic initiatives and sanctions policy seem to be well co-ordinated and mutually reinforcing

HannibalHeyes · 06/03/2022 00:58

I'm not sure you've quite got the point of Article 16...

VikingVolva · 06/03/2022 06:54

I have, but must be seeing reasons from a different angle. What it is that you intended?

HannibalHeyes · 06/03/2022 13:52

Article 16 doesn't have anything to do with EU military use, nor indeed sanctions against Russia...

"Multiple accounts of Ukrainian refugees making extraordinary 1000 mile journey to Calais to join family in the U.K. but being turned away
I really don’t know how Boris Johnson, Priti Patel etc can sleep when this is the ONE aspect of the Russian invasion they control
Disgraceful"

Alex Taylor@AlexTaylorNews · 6h"An au pair living 6ys in 🇬🇧 crossed Europe 6 days to rescue 8 yr old daughter. She has been turned away at Calais. Johnson's UK won't let her back in"

DuncinToffee · 06/03/2022 15:50

I posted this on another thread

Vans are now being turned away at dover docks carrying aid for minimal value on commercial invoices - by the BRITS - not the french . They are enforcing the law 101% on humanitarian aid . Miffed and dumbfounded is an understatement
